Rolex watches often go for five figure funds. A LOT of money. Me? I don't see the point. I'm not even drawn to their designs, in general. You can get far more attractive and unique time pieces that work fine for a pittance. And for all that money on a Rolex or Patek Philippe watch? You could live comfortably for a year AND go on holiday to Disney!

What is the point? Just to feel big?

[ETA] You can't even show it off on nights out - you'll get mugged!

Hell no. But I do not care about any high-end fashion items. Fancy purses, designer clothes, jewelry, all a waste of money in my eyes. But that's me. If someone wants to spend their money on something, that's their right. Our biggest spend by far currently is on travel.

Nope - not a Rolex kinda person…however… I wouldn’t have the same response if it was a Patek Philippe…I would love love love one of those.

This is it, in a nutshell. It’s a status thing for some people. They have to have the most expensive and most luxurious item and then make sure people know they have it.

There are people who genuinely like Rolex watches (and other luxury brands), but it seems like the status thing is what draws in the majority of buyers.

I feel the same way.

I really have no desire to own one. I like Apple Watch too much to do a regular watch. I knew somebody (she is deceased now), had a Rolex and didn't like it really.
