?'s for those of you who use backpack carrier's

If you are standing in line using a backpack carrier for a baby do you take the baby out before you board the ride or show or do you leave him in? My DS is way too heavy to hold for long periods of time (ie walking around the living seas) so we are planning on taking a carrier for him but I was wondering if we could just leave him in it either front or back while we ride. We have a ergo carrier which can be worn front or back if that helps.

We used one of those Backpack carriers, and it has the legs that fold out so you can put baby on the ground when in the carrier. We always took her out and carried the carrier on the rides with us. I would imagine that you would not be able to wear it on the ride while baby is in the carrier. Although we never did use the "Snuggli" (front and back carrier) in WDW.

Just wear it all the way up to the ride and then take him out of it just before you board. Let me tell you, I wish my DD(2) was able to go in the backpack carrier now. It was so much easier when she was that little to wear the backpack and carry her that way.

We usually took our son out...however there were a couple of times that he was asleep...so the CM's (depending on the ride) never gave us a hard time.

We will be using it again in November for out fourth son....it's the only way we can get them to sleep!

I used my mei tai with my ds when we went to disneyland. I was able to leave him in the carrier (front carry) for all rides. He was 7 mos at the time so was fine with that. I would say the back carry would be a definite no on a ride.

You can't do a back carry on the rides but you can just swing it to a front carry when you're about to get on. You could also try to pick up the Ergo pouch to fold your carrier into when you're not using it. I've seen them on ebay and on the babywearer marketplace. Good luck. -Lesley

You most certainly can use the back pack carrier on the rides. We are currently still in WDW...some of the rides we used the back pack carrier on with no problem....

Great Movie Ride, Winnie the Pooh, Kilamanjaro Safari, Backlot Studio Tour, & Peter Pan. There were probably more, but those are the ones I remember....we always asked the CM at the loading area...they kept telling us it was no problem.

(we have the one with fold out legs that cannot be moved to the front)

We've used a back pack carrier on rides as well...sometimes it is just easier. We used it on Living With the Land and IASW.

Here's a related question about carrier use:

Has anyone exclusiely used a carrier in the parks? i.e. used a carrier all day instead of a stroller. We will have a 3.5 y.o. and a 6 month old for our upcoming trip and we are trying to decide what child transport options will be best for us. We can't decide if we should just have one stroller with a carrier, a double stroller, or 2 single strollers! Any thoughts?

We have an 8 month old and a 2.5 year old. We will be toating along our ergos instead of our double strller. As it is we will have a car seat along with all of our luggage. We are planning to rent a stroller in the parks. It seems to make the most sence for us. As it is even if they were asleep on the way back to the hotel you have to colapse the stroller anyways. We are at the Polly. Good luck and have a great time......less than a month till our trip, I am so excited!!!

When we took our trip to DL we took our single stroller. My dd rode in the stroller and I carried my ds in our mei tai. It worked perfectly. He loved to be carried, the single stroller is so much easier to deal with and my dd loves to ride in it. If I got tired of carrying him, he took a turn in the stroller, but that didn't happen often. The mei tai is so comfy for a baby that age.

We are taking the double stroller this time since he will be 20 mos and my dd 3.5. I am happy to wear him in the carrier and I will wear him in it but he also loves to walk and loves to sit next to his sis in the stroller. But, at 6 mos your little one will likely be super happy to be carried all day!
