I booked New Years Eve and Day (31st and 1st checking out the 2nd) at the Swan this morning.

The lady who took my reservation said there may be AP rates released at some point for my stay, so she suggested I call once a month to see if they are out. I will certainly do that as the savings are pretty nice :)

My question is:

Does anyone know if they historically have had AP discounts or any other type of discount for this time of year, or am I just crazy for hoping?

I have no problem splitting my reservation into 2 if there are discounts for one day and not the other.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Anyone have any discount experience/knowledge w/this time of year booking the Swan/Dolphin?

Kathy I hope your operator was more informed than mine. I was told this am that Swan and Dolphin are not available at AP rates. I wanted to book a room for my parents as a surprise but will go where the rates are. Hope I got a new person.

I have a reservation at the Swan for Easter and week preceeding it at AP rate ($139/night before tax for a Lakeview room). When I called to see if they had any special rates available for that week a few months ago (I am a nurse so thought that might be available)... I spoke with a very nice, helpful and knowledgable agent (they are few and far between!!) and he told me that they offer AP and the teacher/nurse/gov't rate year round, with NO blackout dates. However at peak periods there may be fewer rooms available at the discounted rates. This was in early November and I inquired about 4 nights between Xmas and New Years...at that point they had rooms available at the AP rate for those dates but not on the teacher/nurse/gov't rate.

Iwas amazed that anything with a discount was available for either the Xmas dates or the Easter trip. (we ended up deciding against the Xmas trip, so I cancelled those nights). There was a big selection of views available for Easter although I think only the lakeview and club level were still available for Xmas (but it was only 6 or so weeks away at that point....I was astounded they had any discounts available).

I don't know when they announce their AP rates, but when they do they are for the entire year (so unlike Disney where you chew your nails for months hoping for an AP discount) these can be locked in well in advance for us obsessive planners!!

I made the easter reservation as a back up, thinking I would change over to a Disney deluxe if and when AP rates came out, but this rate was much better than we could get at any of the deluxes, even for a standard view room, so we are happy to be staying at the Swan.

We stayed at the Swan for New Year's week this year and were able to use the teacher's discount rate, no problem. They also had the entertainment rate available that same time. It really was the only resort at WDW to offer a discount at that holiday time (check-in 12/28/03). I beleive there wasa AP discount also, but can't be sure.

PS We loved the resort and all the amentities both resorts share.

We stayed at the Dolphin this past 12/29-1/2, AP rate of $139.50pn. (12/26-12/29 at BW-AP rate of $189pn)
