As a non-DVC member, is there any risk(s) in renting points for a ressie? What would be kosher/not kosher when making the ressie with a member person goes? I've never done this before. Have been reading your site like mad, but still not sure.

Thanks,

Nancy S

Risks -

The biggest, but least probable....the member holds the reservation at all times. They can cancel on you the day before you arrive. Its a priivate transaction and Disney will not get in the middle of a dispute.

More probable - DVC cancellations are far different than CRO - although each member may determine their own cancellation policy, its probably best to think of this as a final transaction. If you need to cancel, don't intend on getting your money back.

Things you should know - DVC books almost completely almost all the time. That means availability can be limited. Home resort owners can book eleven months out, at seven months any DVC owners can book any resort - if there is availability.

A DVC member wouldn't just cancel the reservation for no good reason would they? Do you know of this happening and why? Thanks for the info. I appreciate it.

The majority of members renting are honorable people and this will not happen. However since you are renting from a stranger there is always the potential for someone to scam you. This is very rare, but has happened before to some.

As Crisi, pointed out the greater worry is miscommunication, not understanding how DVC works, not communicating well with your member, not knowing about cancellations, payments etc.

Basically until you walk in the resort and they hand you the key to your room, the reservation is the member's.

Be sure to read all the FAQs on the Rent/trade forums, as there is valuable info there.

The reason you are getting such a bargain is the huge amount of trust involved and the small amount of risk involved.
