I am planning an upcoming trip to DW and wondering about Ohana's.

Is it a buffet type restaurant?? For all Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner???

And if you eat there for breakfast, does that count as a TS meal??

TIA

Rhonda

'Ohana is family style. They bring dishes of food to share. For dinner they also bring skewers of meat. It is considered a TS for all meals. The dinner is a must for us each trip. Breakfast is good too though I've had bad service at breakfast there.

'Ohana is a table service restaurant. All meals are served family style.

When we say "Share" you still are seated with your family only. It's not like the one at Epcot where you sit with strangers. They bring large bowls of food along with skewers of meat. We love it!!

Ohana is our family favourite. I love both the breakfast and dinner but my family loves the breakfast more.

It's a not to be missed experience for us.

Was on the fence on this one but looks like we will give it a try......

It seems to get mixed reviews and I really don't know why. As far as service goes you can get bad service any place. The worst we had was just a little slow but the place was packed and we did get everything we asked for. That's not something I would complain about. The food is very good in general. Those that like it REALLY like it and those that don't, I think must have thought they were going to V&A's.

The first time we went was for breakfast and it was the only thing available for that day and time. I didn't know anything about the place other than the character line-up. I read a few reviews and got a little nervous but I figured it's pretty tough to mess up eggs. I went with no expectations and we were thrilled with everything. As a result of that experience we went back for dinner. Now I'm trying to figure out how to sell 2 visits on our next trip to DH.

Thanks for the info, I have heard very good stuff about Ohana's, what kind of food was it, Hawaiian food??

I wouldn't call it Hawaiian food. They have shrimp, wings, scalloped potatoes and grilled meats for dinner. They also serve a bananas foster bread pudding for dessert that is killer. I would go just for the dessert. The meats are grilled in the dining room on skewers that are about 3ft long then brought to your table and served. I suppose that part is sort of Hawaiian.

The breakfast is just standard breakie items. Eggs, waffles, potatoes, sausage, etc.

Thanks all for your replies. I think I am convinced to try this for breakfast. I've eaten at Kona for dinner and really enjoyed it......again thanks!!:thumbsup2

Ohana restaurant in Disney's Polynesian Resort offers a dinner menu with selections influenced by Polynesian cuisine and a Character Dining breakfast. Both meals are served family style, which makes sense since in the Hawaiian culture 'ohana means family.

The Ohana servers contribute to the festive atmosphere, as they dash between tikis and tropical greenery to bring plates of Polynesian specialties to your table. Choose from skewers roasted over an expansive 18-foot oak fire pit, such as:

Asian Barbequed Pork Loin Skewers
Oak Grilled Turkey Skewers
Marinated Sirloin Steak Skewer
Marinated Shrimp
Side dishes include stir-fried vegetables, fried dumplings, lo mein noodles and a salad starter. The full bar in 'Ohana offers select wines and tropical alcoholic drinks.

When the doors open for dinner, be welcomed to Ohana with the bellow of conch shells. Experience storytellers and coconut races, where children sweep coconuts with brooms across the hardwood floor down the center of the restaurant. The family fun continues as everyone is encouraged to play with hula hoops and dance to island music.

What happened to the chicken wings? Do they still serve them?

BEFORE YOU DECIDE, HEAR ME OUT!!

Ok, now that I have your attention. I have heard that Ohana's is great for breakfast, however, we went to Ohana's this past January for dinner and there were 8 of us. Two of my party were my DD6 and DS4. She did BBB and my son actually got to sword fight with Jack Sparrow, and if you were to ask either one what the best part of Disney was, they would both tell you that they watch the Wishes fireworks from the beach at the Poly.

My friend, do dinner, and then after your Bananas Foster (YUM!) head out to the beach, look across the lagoon, and watch the castle turn pink and purple underneath all of those fireworks! Amazingly romantic, even with the kids around!!:cloud9::hug:

You can thank me later!

This wasn't even on my list of places to try and now I have put it on my must do! We had banana bread pudding on the DCL and it was amazing! It Ohana's is half is good, I am sold!! Yum!!

I ate at Ohana's in Jan. when I went with my girlfriend and it was wonderful. We had such a greatt ime that I made a reservation there for my solo trip next month. My faves were the dessert and the brea:love:d. YUMMY!

Just a quick note about O'hanas - I found the sauces and spices to be a bit much for me. I would not call the food spicey, just very flavoured. If you are a boring pallet like me, you may not enjoy it as much. DH however, loved it and we willbe returning this year. I did not dislike it, it was just more than what I like for spices and flavor - KWIM? I still say it is worth it to try, but if you have a picky eater in your group, you may want to be prepared :)

'Ohana tends to be one of those polarizing restaurants - love it or hate it.

We thoroughly enjoy it, and always end up taking newbies there.

Alas, no more potatoes, tho.
