Parental discretion is advised. The game environment might indeed end up going out of hand. I wouldn’t be letting my kids watch the rest of the tournament…

I always felt like the Ryder Cup was mostly a golf exhibition between US/Europe. Sports writers and whatever network doing the broadcasting tries to whip up the crowds to make it a bigger thing than reality to drive up the ratings. The vast majority of those attending are still polite and behave in a way they are expected at any golf tournament.

We quit watching it because it was boring. We never noticed any heckling being mentioned, but we didnt watch the whole thing. We didn't like the pairing of players and just the whole thing I guess. It's too bad if they let the crowd get out of control and heckle the players. Sad.

Ryder Cup is always one of my favorite events to watch and even though the US is getting blown out, the golf itself has been great.

It’s a shame that fans have gone way over the line on their taunting this year. Nothing wrong with some good natured ribbing, but just cursing out players is completely unacceptable and obnoxious. There’s no place for that in sports at all.

Somebody said this Ryder Cup is like the stadium hole at the Phoenix Waste Management Open.

The course is packed-I guess everyone came anyway knowing the US has 0 chance.

Rory just teed off and the crowd was respectful.

So far so good.

They knew the crowds would be a problem at this course but picked it anyway. This was supposed to be Phil’s year to lead the team and he has a relationship with fans there but screwed it up when left the PGA.

My hot take is they should've stopped calling it the Ryder Cup when they started including European players. Call it something else, but now I think of it as the Ryder Cup*, because Great Britain and Ireland needed help to be competitive.

As for this Ryder Cup, there are 3 undeniable truths IMHO:

--Keegan Bradley did a terrible job with his Captains picks and the lineups he sent out Friday and Saturday.
--If Bradley had made perfect picks it would be closer but Europe would still win, because Europe is too good and approaches the Ryder Cup completely differently (and better) than the US does.
--The crowd is disgusting and a walking advertisement for major alcohol restrictions at the next Ryder Cup the USA hosts.

Apparently Rory's wife is there and some of the comments were about her. I'm rooting for the EU all the way. Agree the 'fans' there are disgusting.

A master of ceremonies has stepped down from her role at the Ryder Cup after joining the Bethpage Black crowd in directing expletive-laced chants toward Rory McIlroy.

In a statement released Sunday morning, the PGA of America announced that American comedian and actress Heather McMahan will not return to emcee at the first tee at Bethpage Black.

I think it is funny when they try to blame the captain whenever one team does poorly. The reality is the PGA tour is over for the year after they conclude the FedEx cup and the rest of the year is mostly considered the off season for the top players. Pro golf has always tended to be more of an individual sport. Match play is a format they typically don't use and tends to yield unpredictable results. In stroke play, one bad hole and your tournament is basically over. Match play tends to encourage more aggressive play since the most you can lose is one hole.

Players for either side need to go out and perform up to their expectation, regardless of the pairings or in this type of match play competition, the other side will win. NY tends to have a larger number of rude fans and I agree when this site was chosen, it wasn't like that was any sort of surprise and there have been 'issues' with that sort of behavior at other prior tournaments. That par 3 hole at the Phoenix tournament over the years has added more grandstands and basically encouraged the loud/unruly behavior. Then tournament officials act all surprised when it was the environment they created.
