I kind of felt sorry for him until he got to the part where he said that he didn't recognize his daughter, Tatum O'Neal at Farrah's funeral and tried to pick her up! :scared1:

Ryan O'Neal: "I was a Jerk" to Farrah
O’Neal, 68, reveals that he was so out of touch with his own daughter, Tatum, that he didn’t recognize her at Fawcett’s funeral and tried to pick her up.

LOS ANGELES -- Ryan O'Neal is speaking out publicly about his life with Farrah Fawcett, saying he wishes he could "do it over" and "change the way he treated" his longtime partner.

In an interview with Vanity Fair magazine (due to hit newsstands on August 5th), O'Neal says "I would have been much kinder, more understanding, more mature. I'd lose some of the savagery. I don't know how she got cancer; maybe some of it was me."

During their first major break-up, O'Neal says Fawcett "was going through some kind of change. I didn't have a change of life; I was always a jerk."

He then says that "they're hard work, these divas. "I was sick of it, and I was unappreciated."

O’Neal, 68, also talked about his failure as a parent.

O'Neal revealed that he was so out of touch with his own daughter, Tatum, that he didn’t recognize her at Fawcett’s funeral and tried to pick her up.

O'Neal claims they "started fighting about Redmond by the time he was three."

The two reconciled in 2001 when O'Neal was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia.

During the last stages of her battle with cancer, O'Neal says Fawcett asked him to stop taking his medication so that they could die together. When Fawcett asked Ryan if she was going to live, O'Neal says he told her "Sure, baby -- and if you don't, I'll go with you." Fawcett then said to him: "Stop the Gleevec."

Griffin O'Neal -- Ryan's son with another woman -- says his father's only motives were financial.

Griffin told "Vanity Fair" Ryan's "only goal was to make sure he would be in the will. It was so disgustingly transparent as soon as he found out she was terminal. I consider him a vulture presiding over a carcass."

Ryan O'Neal rejects the claims he was in it for the money. "I hate him! He knows I have money. I made a tremendous amount of money on real estate, more than I deserve," O'Neal says.

Farrah Fawcett left her entire estate to her son, Redmond, and nothing to Ryan O'Neal. She died on June 25th at the age of 62 after a long and public battle with anal cancer.

I saw that. I just shook my head and thought "you gotta be kidding me". Unbelievable.

Ewwww...trying to "pick-up" ANYONE at a funeral is disgusting & so disrespectful, but your own daughter?????? Gross! :sad2:

Why would he be trying to pick up ANYBODY at Farrah's funeral? That he didn't know it was his own daughter speaks volumes. What a jerk!! His son doesn't think very highly of him either. I must say I had a different impression of him before reading this.

And he hates his other son. So sad.:sad2:

I'm not surprised. I thought he came across as wanting publicity instead of really mourning Farrah.

I haven't thought much of him for awhile (years), however I tried giving him the benefit of doubt during her illness. But I truly have gotten the feeling during different interviews w/ him that he was trying too hard to sound sad, and like her REALLY cared for her.

Gross that he tried to pick up anybody at the funeral. ITA!

Wait a minute, didn't he and Farrah marry before her death? He was trying to pick up someone(bad enough it was his dd) at his longtime love's/wife's funeral. What a bleepin' bleepbleep.

He asked her again about a week before her death, and she said yes, but they didn't marry.

Looks like to me like maybe he saw the will leaving everything to her son, and tried to stake his claim. Really really pathetic.

And what a dolt to talk about it in an interview. You would think he would be disgusted in himself, and choose not to share such a thing.

How does one go about picking up ones own daughter? At a funeral no less. He may have been out of touch with her, but he certainly knows what she looks like....:scared1:

I was disappointed. I was hoping he had redeemed himself. Lets hope Farrah thought he had turned a new leaf. They never got around to getting married, which makes me think that his son may be right. Or at least part right. Maybe it was about some of the money?

“They had just put the casket in the hearse and I was watching it drive away when a beautiful blonde woman comes up and embraces me," Ryan tells Vanity Fair. "I said to her, 'You have a drink on you? You have a car?' She said, 'Daddy, it's me -- Tatum!' I was just trying to be funny with a strange Swedish woman, and it's my daughter. It's so sick."

About being hit on by her dad, Tatum sighs and says: "That's our relationship in a nutshell. You make of it what you will." It had been a few years since we'd seen each other, and he was always a ladies' man, a bon vivant."

What a creep!

Sounds like he's fried his brain with too many drugs. :sad2: And you wonder why his kids have issues. :sad2:

Playing devil's advocate here, but is it possible it was his grief talkin and making him behave that way? :confused3 I've heard some strange things that people do when they're full of grief and guilt, even in my own family, and even at the funerals.

When my uncle died, right after he was put in the ground and we were leaving the cemetery, his wife wanted to "go home;)" with my other uncle. My uncle and his wife were best friends and had a beautiful 35 year marriage. After her comment, the rest of the family said she must be out of her mind with grief, and we shoved her onto her sister to take her away for a long vacation to heal. (They were childless, so had no kids to step in.)

Maybe he's just a jerk, I don't know.

not sure who interviewed Farrah ( Barbrara Walters, Oprah...:confused3) anyway, I just remember the interviewer saying Farrah's answer to why she and O'Niel hadn't remarried yet, apparently Farrah's quiet response was that he could be "bossy and mean" or something along those lines. Even in her last days, she knew what she did or perhaps, did not want.

I saw a picture of him online kissing a woman in the back of a limo right after the funeral. He said she was a friend, it didn't look like a "friend kiss". I wonder if he was high. Wasn't he arrested with Redmond at one time, they both had drugs? It seems like more than a coincidence that all his kids have drug problems.

What bothered me most is that he and her "best friend" starting referring to Farrah in the past tense weeks before she died. Both of them gave me the creeps.
