I was wondering what the ratio was in your truck. I remember you saying you got around 8mpg when towing. I have been kicking around the idea of getting a new f350 (dual rear wheel) I found one with 4:10's but I was wanting the 4:30's.

Michael, I have no idea... LOL I haven't been on here much, been busy with family problems.... when I get a second I will look for you. :D

Michael,

I've got 4.10s in my F350 dually, it's also a manual. I get 9-10 towing my 5er which is roughly 11,000 lbs. I tend to run about 65mph, if I start to push it faster than that it starts to suck it faster. I actually wish I had 3.73s in the truck and have been toying with the idea of getting it regeared. That would definitely improve the mileage.

Are you looking at a 2011, or just a new to you F350?

Is this why we've talked so much about triple towing? You must be planning on hooking dad's camper to the wolfpack lol. will you have the carts behind dad's camper or inside your's?:lmao::rotfl2:

I have 3.73's in my 05 F250. Pulling a roughly 9k 5'er I get 10-11 at 69mph. Might be able to get 12 out of it in the flatland.

I found a brand new 09 sitting on the lot with 4:10's. But after reading about the 2011 I think I want to wait. I also found out in 09 there were gear ratio options but in 2010 f-350 drw 4:10 is the only option. I rear geared my 05 f350 4x4 srw it had 3:73 and after I put 35" tires under it there was not enough gear so I switched to 4:30 big difference. But my mpg no change pulling or not. But towing my 36' bumper pull toy hauler 12,000lb I only get 6 mpg.:headache:

Don't stress when ever you get time is fine.

F150 4x4 3.73 gets 11-12 on 95 pulling 7200 at 60-65 with 0-5mph headwind on 0degree grade with a #11 on the menu no msg load range D on 15's with 585 hitch weight 10-4 good buddy.

Now thats a good idea my trailer, dads trailer, 20' lowboy with the carts on it. Now thats a triple tow. I would only be around 112 feet long :rotfl2:. I was just kicking around the idea of trading in Wendy's Dodge.

I regret buying such a heavy trailer now other wise I would buy a half ton. The old diesels were great simple trucks cheap fuel and no emissions but thats just not the case any more.

My Chevy Express van (I know not a truck) that I towed with had a 3:73 gear ratio. Towed nicely but only got 9 mpg when towing and 15 when not.

Somebody get a crowbar, quick! Larry just swallowed Jim!! :scared1:

My parents '02 Excursion with the diesel will get 19 to 20 mpg if you take it easy while not towing (65mph or so), and consistently got 14 mpg towing bumper pulls. It also had the power to pull some serious loads of building materials on a flat bed (the weight police would have skinned him alive).

His more recent (2006 maybe) F-350 does not make the same efficiency and the dealer keeps calling him to give him fair warning that the new engine is not going to last any where near as long as early generation blocks. One of the fathers at scouts this Saturday mentioned that their fleet of ambulances and ER vans (all Ford PS diesels) were starting to have problems at low miles including a blown head gasket at around 90,000 miles. It's too bad, because those late 90s up to about 2005 generation diesels were bullet proof.

Yeah Dan, the up to 02 the engines were AMAZING, then in 03 they came out with the 6.0L and they made HUGE power, but were nowhere near as good an engine. My 03 went through the VGT turbos like a fort fiend goes through refills in their brown mugs! But the 03-07 did have just about the best fuel economy of all of them. I wouldn't wish my 08 on my worst enemy or Larry... LOL it is just a diesel guzzling boat anchor if you ask me.

Starting in 2011 models, international is no longer making the engines for ford and ford themselves have totally redesigned the motor. According to their propoganda, it is supposed to be a beast, but I did see that it has a version of the VGT turbo, (Variable Geometry Turbo) and international had nothing but problems with them. I actually like the compound turbo on my new truck, nice low end boost and HUGE hi end boost, I hit almost 36 lbs when really pulling. But no matter what, the EPA and the Govt, and the idiots at Ford who designed the and implemented the DPF filter can shove that stupid thing where the sun don't shine.

My lease is up in a couple months, and I have got to BUY my next one, I can't turn this one in, I am about 20,000 miles over my lease, so at .25 cents a mile, I would get crushed, so I am looking right now!

Anyone want a 2008 f-350 crewcab dually with a 6.4l boat anchor, err I mean deisel engine??? Sell it to you for what I owe!! Only 6k over NADA, (thanks economy, and fuel prices for killing my resale)

Local sale rep says the new Ford is a 6.7. He also said it is " a lighter weight engine with technology borrowed from the Duramax". I've been looking at the Ram 3500 dually with the Cummings. With the crew cab and 8 ft bed. I had a 95 and a 99 and had transmission trouble and engine trouble with both. Not diesels though. Traded both with under 25,000 miles.A little worried about that stuff still. Heard that the Cumming is getting better mpg? Anyone had experiance with the Ram lately? Cant afford new. In my area 07 and 08s with approx/ 30,000 miles are around $32,000. Ford much higher. Chevy dealer says Suburban still cant be ordered with the duramax. Chevy is really behind the curve on this one. Looked at another Excursion but with diesel. They still want $34,000 with lower miles. V10 grunts in Ten. hills pretty hard. Worried about going out west.
