For those of you that have replaced or upgraded furniture in your RV, did you use a certain place or website? We are looking at buying a used RV and it only have seat belts in the driver and passenger seats so we would want to buy furniture that has seat belts.

Side note: we are totally new to this, we have only owned a tent so this whole buying an RV thing would be a total learning experience for us, so any advice would be awesome.

The seatbelt part of your question caught my eye.

Please note that RV Furniture doesn't necessarily come with seatbelts. Camping World sells Flexsteel furniture, so lets use Flexsteel as an example.

A Flexsteel sofa will not have seatbelts. It can accommodate seatbelts, but they are not attached to the sofa. Instead, the seatbelts are bolted to the floor under the sofa, and the sofa will have openings at the rear to allow the seatbelt(s) to come up through to the seating area.

Similarly, Barrel Chairs mounted on a fixed pedestal (top may rotate but locks into position), can have a seatbelt, but they typically do not come with the chair. The seatbelt is bolted to the frame of the chair or pedestal below, then passes up through small openings in the back of the chair to the seating area.

In summary, seatbelts are usually sold separately, and should be available from Camping World or whoever you buy your furniture from. If not, your local auto parts store should sell some form of after-market seatbelt that will fit your needs. … or just do a Google search and you’ll find places like this: http://www.seatbeltsplus.com/

Free standing furniture – Euro Chairs, recliners, and swivel rockers – do not attach to the floor, do not have seatbelts, and should not be used while the vehicle is in motion.

Another source of Slightly used and new furniture is McKinney RV in Red Bay, AL. www.mckinneyrv.com I haven't used them... Yet!, but they seem to have a large selection. I suspect McKinney RV buys alot of the excess stock and overrun material from Tiffin as Tiffin is also in Red Bay. Take a look and decide for yourself.

Good luck with your project!

OH!
So if it has furniture in there and there are no seat belts I can still buy seat belts and just bring them up through the couch?
Well that's a lot cheaper then getting new couches.

Can the other seat that is behind the passenger seat be bolted to the floor so that it would be safe for someone to sit in and then put a seat belt?

Where does everyone else sit then?:scratchin

Hmmm... could you tell me what kind of seat is behind the passenger seat?

As stated earlier, if it's a Euro Chair, Recliner, or Swivel rocker, the answer is "No". I think some RV's even come with Gliders. You should not sit in these while the RV is in motion! These are all free standing chairs. Free standing chairs are not designed to be occupied while the vehicle is in motion. Just bolting it to the floor doesn't mean the structure of the chair will withstand, or provide any protection in the event of an accident. I'm sure you could bolt it to the floor, but the safety of this would be questionable at best. Now with that said, I do know people that ride down the road in their un-bolted down recliners and never have a problem. I suppose it's only a problem if you get in an accident.

Where does everyone else sit then?:scratchinHow many people do you need to accomodate with seatbelts? Most RVs don't accomodate any more passengers than your average SUV. Some more, some less. Example, I have a Class A Diesel pusher and it only provides belted seats for 6 people. Conversely, my Suburban has seatbelts for 7.

See comments above inBlue.

BTW, have you looked under your sofa to see if seatbelts already exist? Often they fall through the sofa and are laying on the floor. This is where they usually end up, and I'd be surprised if you didn't have at least two seatbelts for your existing sofa.

One last note... if you bolt new seatbelts to the floor, be sure to drill all the way through the floor then use a bolt with a large back washer on the underside. Do not just lag-bolt into the wood floor. A lag-bolt could - and probably will - pull out in the event of an accident.

Good Luck to you.

we actually haven't bought one yet, we have a few that we are looking at.

Thanks for all the info!

Got it!... went back and read your original post. Not sure how I missed that, but all the information still applies.

Best of luck to you. and don't hesitate to ask more questions as they arise.:thumbsup2

Just be forewarned - furniture made especially for rv's ARE expensive, compared to quality you can get elsewhere (if you can find the right size, fit).
Also, bedding, and lots of other things you can get elsewhere, is very expensive when it's at a rv store.
