Rush detained

According to the CNN report on this incident, the police confiscated the drugs in question. According to a couple of blogs, Oxy-con in the higher doses comes in a blue pill that is the same color as viagra. In any event, this was still a crime.

Here is the cnn story http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/06/26/limbaugh.viagra.ap/index.html
______________
Sheriff's investigators confiscated the drugs, and Limbaugh was released around 5:30 p.m. without being charged.

However, the sheriff's office plans to file a report with the state attorney's office.

"We believe there may be a second degree misdemeanor violation, which is possession of certain drugs without a prescription, because the bottle does not have his name on it," Miller said.

And there's the bottom line on the story, folks; a person with a criminal record has just committed a similar type of crime. What's in the bottle this time may be different, but to quote Led Zeppelin, the song remains the same....

The other day you were making fun of Patrick Kennedy. Today everyone is making fun of Rush Limbaugh. Sounds fair to me. All drug addicts deserve ridicule, IMO, .

I have to disagree. All drug addicts need help, not ridicule. Kennedy, Rush, it does not matter.

Why's that?
I guess I just find it sad when people get caught up in drugs, especially when it all started with prescriptons for pain management. Not that I feel it is right or justified, just sad.

This person says it better than me :

"Rush has been married three times and most recently was dating CNN's Daryn Kagan. But as of this date, June 27, 2006, Rush Limbaugh isn't married nor is he dating Kagan. (Can you see where I'm going with this?) Rush is one of the most visible representatives of the right-wing's moral values platform -- the same values that include abstinence and strong words about the immorality of premarital sex. (Wait for it.) Intercourse and marriage are supposed to be all about procreation, right? I mean, that's one of the reasons why Republicans like Rush and Sen. Santorum support an amendment banning same-sex marriage.

So if Rush isn't married, why would he need Viagra? "

I don't believe that timeline has been demonstrated to be true. His single "throw the book" at drug users comment dates back to 1995... which appears to pre-date his illegal drug acquisitions.
I have seen numerous excerpts (and heard some myself) in which he considered drug usage a moral weakness, which he then tied into liberalism in his Nietzschean ubermensch formulation on hiow lienrals cover for te hmorally weak.

Plus, why does everyone assume it's only Viagra and that it was only samples - neither the original statement or his attorney's commments make that point. The original statement says among the drugs found were Viagra. The lawyers statements refers to prescriptions in the name of the physician, not samples

Samples are still drugs in individual packaging, issued to the prescribing physician to dispense as he choses. I don't see what the difference is with regard to a pill bottle with contents issued to the prescribing physician to dispense as he choses.

It's not samples - its a prescription, albeit to the physician

That's how I took it. Where did someone in law enforcement say it was a sample? If they did, I missed it.

That is what I heard on the radio too.

I know, Rush and the Physician had a trist and the Physician left early and forgot to take it with him.;)

I've read most of the replies on this thread and it has me shaking my head. Even if you hate the man like most or all liberals do, you have to admit that this is much ado about nothing. I look at this as a privacy issue and it really isn't anyone's business. According to the news reports he's not in any trouble and a lot of this reporting was done to emabarrass him. Mission accomplished! He's not very popular with the liberal wing of the news or entertainment media. Infact, it probably borders on hate or pretty close to it. It is Viagra and it's Rush Limbaugh who's taking it and we know why he's taking it. That's more than I ever needed to know about his or anyone else's private life.

I have never seen anyone who can upset or P.O a liberal like he can, it's unreal. Usually a liberal will dismiss a critic of them and their politics and just ignore them, but not with Rush Limbaugh. I've seen it first hand and it proves to me that a lot of what he says has must hit pretty close to home and speak alot truth. You libs on this board can poke fun at me or flame away, but his ratings and popularity speak for themselves. Air America could only wish to have even a 1/4 his ratings. I don't care for his style or Ego too much and I only hear him once in awhile, but when I do he makes a lot of sense at times.

You can't have millions upon millions of listeners every year and still be popular after 18+ years in the radio business pushing a program no one listens to. Over 18 years in the radio business and still popular! His ratings, his book sales, and the revenue his show brings in, speaks volumes about his popularity. So for those of you that hate him, enjoy this small victory while you can. I heard he's already making light of it and poking fun at himself. :rotfl:

Customs officials found in Limbaugh's luggage a prescription bottle labeled as Viagra, a prescription drug that treats erectile disfunction, Miller said

Just when I thought it couldn't get more interesting, it just might. :happytv:

His ratings represent the numbers of demographic that goes unchallenged. Nothing more, nothing less. And there are plenty of places where there is a challenge that he is not number one, but his fans don't talk about that.

Bottom line - He is a shock jock that preaches out one side of his... and lives on the other side. You can bet that if Howard Stern was to do something similar there would be people lining up to take their shots.

Oh you know it. And I am one conservative, Christian, repbulican who DESPISES Rush. No one loves Rush as much as Rush loves Rush. He is pathetic. On the other hand I  Howard Stern, who is also in love with himself but at least he is funny and witty.

CNN has a story saying it was single bottle of Viagra

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/06/26/limbaugh.viagra.ap/index.html

I find this qualifier interesting
The "labled as Viagra" qualifier is interesting. Again, I saw on a blog some speculation that the blue pills in the bottle may be something other than Viagra. The authorities have confiscated the pill bottle in question and so we will eventually know if this speculation is correct.

I am not implying that it was a sample. I am pointing out that there is no difference in a sample than a prescription given to you by a physician. Its still not labeled with the patient's name. It was in the name of the physician who gave it to him. A sample is a prescription in the name of the physician without the patient's name on it.

Rush made the mistake of telling his audience last week that he was going to leave the country. I think that Palm Beach County was waiting for him. They weren't going to miss an oppportunity to 'get even'. How many people get off of cruise ships on a daily basis with their prescription medication stuffed in pill boxes or daily dispensers, etc. Its not unusual for people to travel with unlabeled medication.

There is a world of difference between the two. I have routinely received free samples, which the physician logs in with my name. That's SOP.

That is not close to having access to prescription meds prescribed to the Dr. If you see the two as the same, ask your independent physician (not family members) next time if, in lieu of samples or a prescription, s/he will get a prescription in the physician's name and give you the pills. If they balk, tell them it's the same as samples

Why are you dancing around this? It was a prescription made out by the doctor in the doctor's name and filled at a pharmacy. It is not anywhere near the same thing as a free "few pills" sample from the pharmaceutical company.
