I don't like running. I just plain don't. However, last night, at softball...

Me, Mr and Mrs. H., Ashely H., and her little brother Blake, were playing around after softball practice. Ashley was hitting, Mr. H. was pitching, and me, Blake, and Mrs. H. were in the outfield fielding. So when Ashley is done, I hit. Then, after we picked up all the balls, Mr. H. told us to run the bases and he would time us using his phone. So Blake goes first, I think he got 15.2 seconds, he's in 1st grade. Ashley goes next, she's my age, and gets 15.6. I go last and get 15.8. Now I have some social anxiety, so on the way home, I'm in a bit of a bad mood because I ran the slowest. Dad said it was the fastest he's ever seen me run, and I said thanks, but I don't think that's good.

The top runners on our team is Kaylei and Kyrin (she's so fast we nicknamed her Hot Wheels), and they can run the bases (240 feet) in 12-13 seconds. I'm about second/third slowest runner, and I want to change that. I've gotten thrown out at first when I hit a LOT by just a little bit; has I run faster I'd have been safe. And one of my biggest pet peeves is getting thrown out; I go through all the trouble of finally hitting the ball then I get out.

So, I want to run faster. I'm not the skinniest girl around, so I'm worried that could be one of my problems. But does anyone else have good tips? Anyone on track who could help? I need it. Like, a lot -_-

I do track. What you need to do is get a good form. High knees, arms going "Cheek to Cheek" (get it?) and the more times you step the better.

Thanks :) I always thought I was going fairly fast until spring, when our old coach Joe was timing us, and I realized I wasn't going very fast at all. My mom thinks I should get insoles, because my cleats are a little stiff. They have special really hard plastic or something because they're for pitching. When you pitch, you drag your foot and it pretty much ripped up my old cleats. My dad thinks we should get the track coach to come to practice, but I'm afraid he'll be mad at my un-amazing running skills :worried:

I'm in track and really want to do cross country. We always have to have good running form or we get called out on it. Don't let your arms cross in front of you when you run. It may be a little hard to get used to, at least it was for me. And take long strides. That's mostly for long distance, but it could still help. Daily runs help with stamina and muscles. But mostly the arm crossing and striding. Also swinging your arms in sync with your opposite foot.

The coach wouldn't be mad.

I know he probably wouldn't but my social anxiety makes me think people are worse than they seem :D Mainly just teachers though. Usually not coaches, considering my coach is my dad

Okay, I'll try all of those :) Thanks!

Welcome :goodvibes

Also if your sides start to hurt after you run, breath slowly. Just putting that out there. Or put your hands on top of your head, this helps you breath. My couch is a stickler about these things.

Same here. We have a path to a neighborhood at my high school, so we can take 30 minute runs.

We usually just use the track. Only sometimes we do the Cone run (which is almost mile)That's the only type of path we have for track. We only have a path through the neighborhood for cross country, I think it's something like 6 miles or something, no idea how long it takes.

What do you run? I do hurdles and 200s

Last year I only ran 800s and the mile. Every. Single. Meet. Of course we did have a lot of girls that year. This year I ran all of the running events, pretty much, since we had such a small group. (we started with 20 girls and ended up with 15) I don't do hurtles though, they scare me. I also don't do any field events, they scare me too. I just run. I loved 200s though. I only got to do 1.

I'm tall enough for hurdles. I can't run 800s. I get too tired. We had over 150 people on our team last year, most of which were girls. The guy I like taught me how to do shotput. He just graduated though. ;-;

I'm not a runner but I do like to run for fun and to get extra exercise sometimes! What really helps me is how you use your arms: for speed definitely pump them, but don't get too big with it or you'll end up throwing yourself off balance :rotfl2: Definitely engage your core (like your ab muscles, diaphragm, etc.) it sounds weird and unneccessary but running is actually a really good ab workout if you use it the right way! When you engage your core it takes a lot of pressure off your legs leaving them to move more freely and also faster. It sounds weird but literally it changed my running so much! Also psychologically clear your mind, don't think any negative thoughts like "You're not going fast enough!", and concentrate on getting to where you're running to!

Oh I didn't know we were counting guys. There were like 10 guys this year. I'm almost the tallest in my grade so height isn't a problem, I can jump the hurdles, but I jump way too high because I'm scared to hit it. :blush:

I jump too high too. Not because I'm scared, because I'm too tall. These are 100 hurdles too, so they're up a notch. Because I jump way too high, I almost always end up last. T-T
