Running Watch? Advice?

I do have my eye on the Magellin Switch Up, which is due out later this year. It will automatically calculate the pace you need to finish any programmed time! Since my brain quits working as the miles get long, this will be fantastic!

The Garmin 610 will do this via the "virtual racer" function. You put the finish time you desire for the distance you are running in and it will tell you where you stand at all times relative to that finish time.

Unfortunately, the Garmin only does +/- on your pace. The Switch series actually computes a pace. I don't find the virtual racer very helpful. The Switch Up also has a barometric altimeter AND a thermometer. It is extremely cool!

Switch sounds interesting, but you have me confused on the pace info you seek. You want to know the pace you have to run from the beginning? Or the pace to catch up to or slow down to in order to achieve your desired time? There are apps to calculate the beginning pace, but during the race, wouldn't it always be changing? Just trying to understand.

During the race it is constantly changing, and that is where the Switch Up comes in. It keeps track of your pace since the start, your current location, and your goal time, and gives you the required pace on the fly. You can even tell it that you are feeling fresh, and want to come in ahead of a certain time, and it will tell you where you need to be. Much more sofisticated than Garmin's little running guy.

I actually have the Nike watch and love it. Found it to be very accurate (often compare with my running partner who has a Garmin). You just have to make sure it's working off GPS and not the sensor in your shoe.
