Running the tangents in Disney races

It's also really important to remember that GPS is also prone to a host of issues that can significantly effect mileage/pace readings -- the signal can bounce off buildings, the amount of cloud cover can effect the quality of the readings, some satellite fixes are better than others. If you are concerned about making a certain pace, turn OFF the auto-mile alert on your watch. Instead, set your watch to tell you the pace of your last lap. Then, every time you pass a mile marker, hit the lap button and it will tell you whether you are under the cut off time.

Apologies if this is duplicate info, I'm a first time poster.

For the WDW Goofy this year, my half was mostly walked and I didn't worry much about the tangents. I stayed to the inside of major turns, like the ramps and overpass before Epcot. My distance was 13.6. I did pretty well in the full, despite character stops and using a real bathroom: 26.9. I was mindful of running the inside when I could get there, but didn't worry about it too much when there were lots of quick angles or turns.
My friend said she did so much weaving that she added 3 extra miles! I thought she was exaggerating, but no.

I'm training for the Dumbo Double Dare at Disneyland this year, and I'd like to avoid adding on a bunch of extra miles for my first rD challenge.
I did the DDD in 2013 and found that it was much easier to run the tangents on that course than in WDW. If I remember correctly, most turns (outside the parks) were in one direction, so if you stay to that side, you are good. If you look at the map ahead of time, you can see where the big turns are. I was dead set on a PR for the half, so it was the first time I studied a course map enough to have memorized it.
