Running Sneakers - Need Suggestions

Yes, you need to be professionally fitted (sorry this is a broken record).

That is the only way you can tell not only the size and width, but also what type of arch support, type of last (hard or soft), whether you over- pronate or supinate, etc. that you need.

I can't wear New Balance for anything, Asics are the only ones that fit me well. Reebok used to be great and then they changed. Nike running shoes are crap.

I was a dedicated Nike and Adidas girl for years, but the last few pairs I've had have been Asics. I love them so much more. They just feel more...substantial, I guess, and my last pair, which I had and wore for more than a year, NEVER got that "OMG, you need to replace me NOW!" feeling that I always got from my Nikes. They feel to me like they cushion and support a lot more and last a lot longer to boot.

Ditto to what the PPs said. I went last weekend to get a pair of shoes from a running store. I was measured in length (who knew my running shoe would be 1 size bigger than my regular shoes?), width (narrow) and also had to walk on a treadmill. The awesome runner shoe guy brought out some shoes. The first pair the arch didn't work. The second pair, arch was good and the shoe felt good but it wasn't the shoe. I finally put on a pair of Brooks Ravenna. They were perfect. That was my shoe! I am now a firm believer in going to professionals for athletic footwear.

I will be taking DD to get her new shoes in June when we start marathon training. For now she is good in the shoes she got for track.

I wear a narrow also and that usually leaves me with a choice between New Balance and Brooks. I got my first pair of Brooks from Road Runner Sports because the lady recommended them to me (and 1 size bigger than I normally wear) and I really did not want to like them but actually love them. I did not have any problems at all training for the 1/ or during or after the race. They were wonderful shoes and I still wear Brooks to this day! Used to wear New Balance but gave them up.

good luck in your training!

I've hd good luck with New Balance.
I don't run, but do marathon walking.
