Running Events and "Host" Resorts

How important is it to stay at a "host resort" for a runDisney event? I am going for the Tower of Terror Race and would love to stay at Art of Animation but it's not an official host resort. Will this be a problem??

The host resorts will have transportation arranged for the race. If you'll be renting a car, booking a host resort is less of a priority.
Also, I got a very nice discount (33%, I believe) on one of the host resorts, POR, via the sports event booking people. I'm not sure if they also offer discounts on non-host resorts. Of course, it may be too late for the discount at this point - when I booked in March, I was told they were nearly sold out of the discounted rate for my dates.

Thanks! Since we're not renting a car, I think we'll just stick with ASMovies. We booked in the spring and got a pretty good discount too. I'm just tempted by the new resort...ha.
