Running Down a Dream 2: It's All About the Swag

Hi Scott....

Despite the challenges of the heat and a new running location....you did great yesterday! Still really speedy quick :). Great job :goodvibes .

Wow...Survivor was AWESOME last night. Even though I really wanted to see Yau win (he deserved it IMO)...I was very pleased with the results and compared to the snooze-fest that was AR and Apprentice's finales...this one was fantastic.

On to DWTS....hoping Apolo puts in another stellar performance tonight. Oh yeah.....and the Bachelor LMAO. :rotfl: I watch them all. Such a reality tv junkie.

Have a great day today :). Enjoy Mrs. Elliptical tonight.

Thanks everybody :)

Kim - No...I don't have a Garmin. I've been pretty happy with mapping the runs out online. I also think that I may be distracted by the Garmin telling me what my pace is all of the time...add in the possibility of a satellite glitch and I've just decided to stay away from it for now. I do think it would be very useful if I could ever get involved in cycling...but one problem there...anyone have a bike for sale?? :confused3 For...like...cheap? :rolleyes1

Amy - I agree with wanting Yau to win. That guy amazed me with his intellect and skill in those challenges!! He was waxing the youngsters in everything! And yes, thank goodness it was an exciting finale!! I couldn't believe that Dreamz kept that idol...created quite the drama....and the jury...were they a little upset or what?? Good stuff there :goodvibes I'm pulling for Apolo tonight too, he deserves to win that thing, he's done so well this season.

Soooo....nothing else to update here today. I'll post again once I've finished tonight's workout.

thanks to everyone for stopping by!

You are right about the distraction part. I look at it when I think I'm cruising right along...and it'll tell me I'm going at like 15mpm. Then when I think I'm crawling I'll check and it'll say 10-something mpm.

I just used to dread getting in my car after my runs to see how far I went. Maybe that sophisticated program you use would have been better. :confused3 :rotfl: And I wanted to know that if I ever chose to go off the beaten path...I'd know how far I went. I sold my eliptical & got a Garmin. Haven't had any satellite problems unless I'm inside a building. Enough outta me.

I agree that the Survivor finale was great, but yeah...some of the jury members were BITTER!!! (Lisie, Alex, Boo). It's a GAME, people!!! :sad2: I loved it when Dreamz kept the necklace. I was hoping he WOULD. Don't just roll over & give up...keep fighting!! I definitely liked Yao, but Earl played an awesome game! :thumbsup2

Hi Kim...(and Scott....this is YOUR journal after all)....

Gonna' hijack this thread for a minute and offer my 2 cents LOL ;) . As for the Garmin, I have one but I think I may be ebaying it. It is a wonderful tool...but like Scott said, I became overly distracted with the numbers. I think it is a very cool option and I know lots of people who swear by their Garmin and I'm SURE it works great in areas that are more open. Unfortunately for me it is very unreliable in the wooded areas that I primarily run...it was off by over 1/10 a mile yesterday. I ordered a Timex Triathalon, based on an awesome recommendation ;), which will keep track of my HR and splits. I think I'm going to try to run with that for awhile and see if I feel the need to keep my Garmin. As for mapping out runs...there are several great, free websites that use satellite mapping. My favorite is Mapmyrun.com. Great tool which can be used alone or even with your Garmin. So definitely check it out :).

In regard to Survivor...I think I'm too much of a softy b/c I hated to see that whole thing come to a head during Tribal. Dreamz should have never taken that deal anyway because once he did he was literally in a no win situation. One he backed out of it he was done...but on the other hand had he given it up to Yau as per his deal, he would have been voted off. So in my opinion, for his future and his dignity, he would have been better off keeping the deal with Yau. But yes...it is a game and he played hard. I still wish Yau would have won...but I predicted Earl all along and I'm very happy about the outcome. :) What an exciting finale it was!

OK.....handing journal back over to Scott. Sorry buddy ;) LOL!

*tagging in*

Amy -- I also have a Timex Triathalon! Wow, so cool that we have the same watch :lmao: Gonna come in handy next year when we hit the Ironman circuit. :scared1: ...guess I need to learn how to swim pretty quickly :confused3 And I LOVE the latest upgrades to mapmyrun.com...so quick and easy to use.

So yesterday I knocked out another elliptical workout. I did 30 minutes at a reasonable pace. It was supposed to be an off day, but I really felt the need to get some kind of exercise in and figured 30 min of non-impact wouldn't hurt anything. I also did an ab routine once I returned back home. All I can tell you is that it's cool to see quick results from running all of the time, cause I sure aren't seeing the results from the ab workouts! May just be too much extra padding there to identify any changes ;) But I'll push onward nonetheless.

Also...DD and I went for a run! I got the idea from someone I know (guess who? ;) ) whose daughter did an awesome job on the Presidential Fitness Test (it's that thing in school where the kids run a mile, among other fitness activities). That conversation prompted me to ask my DD about her PFT performance. She replied with an "I wasn't last!" :rotfl: Turns out she beat three people in her class....and I later learned that those three walked. :rotfl2: So we've agreed to start running a mile a few times a week to help get her fit. She's a skinny little thing, but lacking some true fitness and endurance....who knows, it may lead to racing together sometime down the road. Anyway, we headed out last night and she did really well. We finished a mile in 12:54...and that is with a pretty substantial hill (120 ft.) right in the middle of it. It was cool to be out there with her and I think amongst all of the complaints "my side hurts, my knees hurt, I can't do this"...she secretly enjoyed herself. Of course, I'm not gonna force her to do things she doesn't want to do, but I hope she sticks with it in some capacity.

So that was yesterday...today I'm gonna do a neighborhood run, somewhere in the 40-60 minute range. Then I'll do an ab routine followed by a date with the television (DWTS and AI)....Party at my house!!

Have a great day!

Hi Scott,

It's good to see you posting again!!!! I think it's a great idea that yo and DD can get out and run together. You two did a great job on the first run!

Good for you for signing up for the Goofy....that is great!

You're doing a great job, keep up the good work!!

Have a good day :)

DARN...I read your journal too late, or I would've been SO there. :headache:

"Quick 30 minute eliptical and a little ab work thrown in." Yeah. That's what I do on my "days off" too. :rotfl: THAT, my friend, is why YOU are MR. Incredible. :thumbsup2

Very cool that your DD is out there running with you. :yay: Running is absolutely something I want my kids to join in on. Who knew when we started running for ourselves, what a positive influence we would be for our kids. :goodvibes

Have a GREAT day, Scott!

That's great that you and your DD are running together. :goodvibes I remember those Presidential Physical Fitness Tests in school. :upsidedow I passed every category, every year except for the running and chin ups. :(

I love watching DWTS, but it interferes with my DH watching Heroes and 24 so I only get to watch it on occasion... I can't seem to get into AI this year. :confused3

Hope you have a great day!:cool1:

Thanks everyone :)

Last night I decided to do my 6.6 mile run around the subdivision. I mapped out the route back during marathon training and really enjoyed running it, but hadn't really had the need to do that many miles on a weekly run since January so it was really nice run to revisit. I did it in 59:49, a 9:04mpm pace.

There is just something about being out there for that length of time...after about 20 minutes my body goes on autopilot, I stop thinking about the events of the day and start epiphanizing about a plethora of things. It's when I feel the best...just me, the mp3 and the road before me...all of life's little problems seem to either fade away or get worked out in my mind....I think I'll try to capture those thoughts in my blog entry later today.

I'm at a bit of a dull period in my training. I suppose it happens after running in any major event...you set your training plan up to accomplish this big goal and when it's finished you find that you are again in search of a purpose for all of the workouts. It's funny to look back and see how I was training hard last year for the Peachtree and now 6 miles has become a distance I can regularly do. While it makes me feel very proud for coming this far, it is making me seek out new challenges to take on. I'm looking at duathlons, trail runs and cycling events but the summer months in the south are not condusive to many of those races taking place. So, it's just time to focus on maintaining a steady base of runs and workouts so that when Goofy training gets here in August, I'll be ready to take on that challenge.

On tap for tonight? 40 minutes on the elliptical, some ab work and AI/Lost on the good ol' tv.

Thanks for listening and have a great day!

Great job with all your training Scott!!! :thumbsup2 You always amaze me with your dedication and consistency. I love that you can zone out when you run...I've never reached that "level' in my running....I still find it hard to really get into a run and just lose myself in thought. Usually I'm trying to avoid things like Bear, Wild Turkeys, Rogue Dump Trucks, Pot Holes, Pit Bulls and clueless drivers. :sad2: BUT....even on the trail I seem to find it difficult to just allow myself to ease into a run and lose myself in the music or my own thoughts. Maybe someday....but if it's ANYTHING like meditation I think I'm in trouble. When they tell me to find my happy place in Yoga I start comparing and contrasting "happy places" like I'm going on a freakin' vacation.

Anyway....'nuff about me. I just really admire you for reaching such a level in your running and the fact that you are looking to branch off in other directions. I am sorry though that you are feeling a little stagnant in your training :(. I am quite the opposite lol...I'm so stinkin' scared of running Goofy :scared1: that I am fully focused on getting my training to a point where I'm totally injury free and my body is feeling great running 15-20 miles per week consistently. So....you are soooo beyond that place that I fully understand your need to find new challenges. Good luck in that endeavor...I'd hate to see you lose your love of running this summer!!!

Enjoy Lost tonight!!! I know you fanatics must be so excited to see the episode tonight. Getting close to the finale and lots of stuff poppin' from the looks of the commercials LOL.

GREAT run, Scott! You're a constant inspiration to me, and show me what life can be like when I stick with running. Keep on going, man. You're da bomb. (I like typing that kind of thing, because I'd never be able to actually SAY it in any situation :rotfl: )

I just can't WAIT for 10pm tonight. I'm gonna hopefully get back to your blog tomrorow. :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone :goodvibes

Yesterday I unwillingly got in a 30 minute workout on the elliptical. It was just one of those days where I didn't feel like working out. But it always feels good afterward to know that I did manage to get in there and bust it out.

Today I'm looking forward to a nice 4 mile run after work.

That's all from Camp ScoJo.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Hey Scott. I hope you had a GREAT run and are enjoying the LOST recap show tonight. :thumbsup2

Gooooooooooooddd morning :)

Boy was the weather nice here yesterday. By the time I made it home and out the door to run, it was a beautiful 73 degrees. The sun was shining, but not intense...a slight breeze was blowing....birds were singing....children and small animals were frolicking around in utter delight....turmoil in the world halted....everyone turned and hugged their neighbor....Linkin Park recorded an album that harkened their previous efforts and didn't suck....American Idol had finalists we cared about....Lost aired a special episode that explained the entire premise of the show and answered all questions....Amazing Race admitted a controversial not shown on tv roadblock error that resulted in the beauty queens winning the million...Walt Disney World cut their prices for everything in half...I got a bike for my birthday....and my true love and I bought a lovely beach bungelow, moved there, and lived happily ever after.

It was quite a night! :goodvibes

Ok, so the first couple things were accurate and the rest was just wishful thinking but hey, we're allowed to dream, right?

Anyway, it was so nice outside and I was having such a pleasant run that I pushed the mileage up to 5.6. I did it in 50:26 for an even 9mpm pace. It was one of those outings where everything felt great...I kind of needed a run like that after a few so-so workouts in a row.

I'm scheduled to be off today and I think I'll stick to that plan :thumbsup2 While updating my fitness journal, I realized that I just did 6 days in a row of alternating runs and ellipticals so my day off is well deserved in my mind. I'll get back out there with some XT on Saturday and an 8 miler on Sunday.

thanks for stopping by and have a great Friday!

LOL!!! . Frolicking? Did you really say "frolicking"....first you call us "gals" and now you use the world "frolicking". I'm beginning to think you just stepped out of some real life version of Rodgers and Hammersteins Oklahoma! . :rotfl2: Awwww....I'm sorry Scott......I'm stirring up the trouble today, and after you were so nice in my journal. :flower3: peace offering!!!

Anyway....guess I should comment on your training :).

GREAT runs and GREAT xt this week. I'm so glad you are giving your body a rest today.....it's important to allow for some recovery time. Even for uber-ultra athletes like yourself! I'm pretty amazed at your consistency in terms of pace.....especially since it seems that your neighborhood runs are pacing closer and closer to your weekend long runs! I'm so impressed considering the hills you contend with in your 'hood! :worship: I bow down to your runningness. (look at me making up words lol). You are BFA ;)!

I hope you have a super weekend! Enjoy that nice Georgia weather.....ours has taken a turn for the worse here in NJ :(.

Enjoy your day off, Superman. You deserve it! :thumbsup2

Send some nice weather up north, please. :goodvibes

Scott, You're THE MAN!!

I am totally amazed still when I look at how far you've come!! I think to myself... I could be at least half way there...If I were only half as dedicated as MR. INCREDIBLE!! And if my darned knees wouldn't hurt everytime I run :confused3 :sad2: You keep me thinking about trying it again though! And I am greatful for that. My chiroprator and the trainer at the gym told me (early last year) to work on walking and get more weight off first... but I was stubborn. Maybe I should listen. There's hope for me yet.

K, nuff bout me. You guys crack me up!
Also great to hear that you are running with your daughter! princess: I remember those pft's also. I HATED them!

Keep up the Great work! Have a great weekend!

Hey Scott...how was your weekend? :confused3
