Running Down a Dream 2: It's All About the Swag

Thanks for the nice words there Amy and Kim. I'm just a very lucky person to have escaped any major kind of injury and let's face it, I had the biggest room to improve. I was way overweight and had never run before when I started...kind of makes it easy to show noteable improvement over the course of a year. Couple that along with the fact that I'm a male and I'm 6' tall (longer strides)...and I'm probably right where I should be...right in line with those people my age who run. I do appreciate the nice comments though...makes me feel good every time I visit the journal.

Don't sell yourself short there Scott. You wouldn't be placing 3rd if you were right in line with others your age. Doesn't matter where you started....it's how far along you've come. You are running at a pace that is in line with people who have run their whole lives. That's amazing....be proud of that and really, don't make it out to be less than it is ;).

Great run again today. Be careful with your leg! Be careful with that smoke! Yikes! And enjoy your holiday weekend :)

Scott - phenomenal run! Again, I can't even comprehend 8mpm. I'm glad you listened to your body and took into account the fact that you raced the day before.

Those wildfires are pretty scary! We just dealt with them last week, but we didn't have any air quality issues around us.

I'd definitely like to learn more about the HR thing. Keep us posted, k? ;) I agree that a 44bpm sounds really low. But I guess you're just in awesome shape and have a strong heart! :thumbsup2

Hope the air clears up for ya soon!

Congrats on 3rd place, Scott!:thumbsup2 That is definitely something to be proud of!:goodvibes

Your times during your 6 mile run are awesome!!! Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

I'll be interested to see what conclusions you come to about the hr stuff. Thanks for sharing it!:goodvibes

Have a great day today and be careful with the smoke!

.....no HR info as of yet, still formulating the whole maximum heart rate issue....

but...

I did manage to get a workout in, but boy was it a struggle. (for the following story, the names have been changed to protect the innocent) You see, I set out for the fitness center, but ran into Carl who informed me that Jessie had an evil plan to stop me from working out. Now aware of this, I promised Carl my water after the workout an set out to find Bruce who had made a deal with Jimmie to betray the fitness center manager Ed. Ed, however had made a previous deal with Jessie and would therefore thwart Bruce's efforts to overthrow said fitness center. When I showed up at the center, there was Ed and Bruce shaking hands on a new deal they had made with Steven. I thought Steven was on my side all along? Who knew that Steven was secretly in charge of the whole thing to begin with and would end up sacrificing himself so that Ed could remain fitness center manager and therefore allow me to work out.

Confused??

This is exactly how I felt while watching Pirates 3 yesterday pirate: :confused3

anyway...

I did do 30 minutes on the elliptical and I did see PotC 3. It was good, but I liked the other ones better. I did manage to sort out the plot after I came home and thought about it for a couple hours.

I'll go run today...hopefully that won't be as confusing :)

Have a great day!

:rotfl: Too funny Scott!

So the movie was a little confusing eh? Glad you have it all figured out. I suppose I'll see it one of these days, probably when it's out on DVD ;). I may have to have you clear things up for me when I finally watch it. I spend a good deal of my life confused to begin with.....throw something purposely confusing at me and watch me go LOL.

Sounds like you had a successful holiday weekend! Lots of workouts, placing in ANOTHER race and a disney blockbuster movie too!!! Good job :).

And hey....get to work on that HR stuff will ya! LOL....I need to run tonight ;).

Well, Scott, you lost me at the first Carl. :confused3

Glad everything worked out and you were able to do your XT. I can't wait to see PoTC 3, but if it took you that long to figure it out....I might as well not even try. :headache:

Hope you had a great run! :thumbsup2

Good afternoon :)

Not much to report other than a pretty tough run last night. I managed to run 5.6 miles in 52:54 for a 9:27mpm pace. My HR was higher than normal at 170. It was a little hot and I was sweating up a storm, but I'm not real sure why it was so difficult. Later last night, I felt totally wiped out...like I had run the marathon again :( I guess I have ran 3 out of the last 4 days and maybe that had something to do with it also :confused3

Oh well...got the miles in anyway and tonight I'll hit the elliptical again (boy I need a bike)....and tomorrow I'll go back out for a shorter 4 mile run.

There is a 5k race this weekend but I may not do it depending on how I feel later on in the week. At this point, I'd rather have nice long runs in preparation for the Peachtree, instead of faster 5k type runs.

Anyone else super annoyed by Carrie Fisher during the 'On the Lot' show? WOW...she is painful to watch....almost as painful as the host of the show. Where did they find her at anyway?? Love the show though...it's nice to have something to watch on Mon/Tues nights :) Gonna check out that celebrity impersonator show tonight popcorn:: and then Surviv...I mean Pirate Master tomorrow night at 8.

Have a good day...

Seriously, you ran 3 out of 4 days? :confused3 That just doesn't sound like a good thing to do while training...this early in the game. :confused3

Take care, man. And for crying out loud, take a rest day! :cloud9:

Yeah, running so much took its toll on me I think....so I totally backed off tonight and did 30 minutes on the LifeCycle/Stationary Bike/easy on post dinner stomach/seat on wheels. I don't think my HR exceeded 128 the entire time, but hey...good for the fat burn ;) And boy do I need some fat burned :)

I'm still planning on the 4 miler tomorrow and I think I've pretty much ruled out racing this weekend. Will probably cross train on Saturday and get a nice 8 miler in on Sunday.

Oh yeah, got some ab work in tonight too (has been missing from my workouts for about two weeks now :( ).

Off to go vent about some stuff in my blog....Have a good evening!

It's so easy to over-do it Scott....I know I've been there. It's just so great that you know when to back off and it sounds like you made a good choice tonight with the life cycle. You just have to be careful and take care of yourself :goodvibes . We all know you totally rock....and can place in all your races now :snooty: ....and are super fast  .....sorry for the faces but I'm jealous LOL ;) . But hey...you still need a rest day now and then.

So...anyway I'm really proud of you for making a good choice tonight and backing off a little. Good luck with your run tomorrow :). I also think it's a great idea to hold off on another race again this weekend...it's time to get ready for the big Peachtree!!!! I know you are going to do an awesome job in that race!!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks Amy

Last night I did a 4 mile run in the 'hood. I completed it in 37:00 flat, which is a 9:15mpm pace. It was fairly hot, but my HR stayed pretty good at a 165 average.

Today is an off day, so I think I'll take it off. Will probably go home and cut the grass....then do the ab routine....just won't do any running or XT. Still planning on 30-40 on the elliptical tomorrow and then a nice 6-8 mile flat long run Sunday morning.

Have a great day

Aye Scotty, how be ye doin? Did ye find the Pirate Master show to yer likin? Arrrr. pirate:

Sorry....I think I'm getting carried away with the pirate speak after watching the show last night. Although...it didn't quite live up to my expectations....opening scene aside where they were rowing their boats in the fog. VERY PoTC of them :).

Besides...it's very important to start practicing your pirate talk now....gives you plenty of time to master the language before Talk Like A Pirate Day, which is on 9/17/07. Don't believe me? Check this out :lmao:

http://www.talklikeapirateday.com/wordpress/

On t'ye runnin' thins ye old salty dog.

Sorry...this is getting addictive ;).

Good job on the run yesterday Speedy McFaster. It's pretty awesome that you are able to maintain that pace on those hills thar, um, I mean there. Wow...it's really hard to stop. Anyway...good idea to take a rest day. Even uber-athletes like yourself need a day off now and then !!!

Have a great weekend!!! Here's hoping I'm able to get out there and do a nice LR this weekend too. :goodvibes I know yours will be stellar as always :).

Ahoy, well, Me found Pirate Master t' be a bit cheesy. The challenge was mightily lame, but Me do like the fact that they can use real money t' bribe other contestants. Aye, me parrot concurs. I'll stay tuned a bit longer t' see what happens. Aye. Aye, thanks so much for informin' me about Pirate Speak day, sounds like a road trip is in store, gar! In da' meantime, bring me a servin' wench to bid me me pleasures! pirate:

:rotfl2: Love this stuff :thumbsup2 How's my pirate speak? :goodvibes

Your pirate speak is, ummmm, hmmmm, piratey and a bit scary too. :scared1:

Good luck with the wench thing :scared:

You guys are a trip. pirate: We didn't watch. Can't really commit to any new shows right now. We need to catch up on all the crap we've DVR'd.:sad2:

Great run, Scott! :thumbsup2 You are a HUGE running inspiration to me whenever I'm out there. I feel like I'm trucking right along, and then realize that you go about 3 mpm faster!!

I'm glad you're taking the day off from XT and running. The penguin would be proud. :goodvibes

Have a GREAT weekend!

:worried: Psssss....hey Kim.....over here. Ummmm......Ixne on the Penguinse.

How should I put this... ..... Scott feels the same way about John as he does about Melinda. :) It's a long story! :goodvibes Just a friendly FYI.

Sorry!! :scared1: Weren't you guys the one that turned me on to that book? :confused3

The "P" word will never be typed here again. :scared:

(at least I know how to get a reaction from you guys quickly. hahahaha)

:rotfl: YES!!!! I think somebody has just moved beyond the Penguin...It must happen when you get really fast.:snooty: He needs a guy who is The Jaguar or The Puma. No waddling for Scotty ;) .

Sorry Scott :).

....rant forthcoming...

...actually not...not gonna waste space in the journal on him.

...and no....don't need someone faster. Just someone who practices what he preaches maybe....
