Running Down a Dream 2: It's All About the Swag

Sorry to cause an uproar so big that you wanted to rant, Scott. You gotta keep me up on these things, so I don't slip like that again. :headache:

****aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand, back to the running/fitness journal******

:goodvibes It's all good people...no uproar caused. :)

I'll give props where they are due. Bingham's book convinced me that I could finish a marathon and i think his training plans are awesome. I still use them to this day and think they provide a great balance between running, speed work and cross training. There is a LOT of information in that book that is very noteworthy and it's great to see an avenue out there for us normal people to find our way in to what was thought as an elitist sport. So waddle on, Mr. Penguin...you've done a lot of good for countless thousands of us out there.

....see....no rant :) :hippie: :grouphug:

So yesterday I started off the day by.....playing golf!! Yes, golf...I in no way mean to brag, but I'm a pretty decent golfer, having played all of my life up until college (when certain other things took precendence ;) ) I don't get out often enough anymore, but it was nice to spend a great morning/afternoon on the links. And who knew, but the trusty ol' calorie counter said that 5 hours of golfing with a cart burns somewhere around 1500 calories!! Geesh...maybe I need to get out there more? (although a bike would be cheaper).

After the golf match, I hit the fitness center and ellipticized for 30 minutes.

Today I completed my 8 mile long run. It wasn't a bad run, but wasn't the easiest of runs, either. The funny thing is that I ran the same exact pacing as my 6 miler last weekend :) I did 8 miles in 68:38, an 8:34 mpm pace. My HR was steady at 165.

After that, I fired up the lawnmower and cut the grass (calorie counter says it burned 434 calories...does it count as XT?? :confused3 ).

so there you have my weekend :) I hope everyone else had a good one.

Catch y'all later :thumbsup2

Woah!!!! :thumbsup2 That's some serious calorie burn there Scott!!!

Sounds like you had a really nice weekend :). Lots of activity!!!

GREAT JOB with the runs. Your splits and consistency always amaze me. It's something I aspire to! You are definitely my running inspiration!!!

Good luck with the week ahead. Hope it's a good one for ya!!! :goodvibes

Whew, that's a lotta calories burned, man!

Great run! I was thinking about your run yesterday while I was laid up on the couch. I'm glad you got a good one in even after all that exercise on Saturday. :thumbsup2

Hello...

Yesterday I ventured over to the fitness center and did 40 minutes on the elliptical.

Have a good day!

Wow Scott..you really are so verbose. Please don't write a book every time you post about your training...we really don't need all the minute little details. :lmao: :rotfl: Sorry....but that was the shortest post from you ever!!!! Is work busy or something?? :confused3

You're doing great buddy! Keep up the good work!!! :goodvibes

Hello...

Last night I ran 5.6 miles in 52:33...a 9:23 pace. It was yet another in a series of kind of disappointing runs. Over the course of the last week, I just haven't been able to find the groove and make the runs semi-easy and/or enjoyable. I had to fight a mental battle last night to even get past mile #1. Sure, my times are still great for me but they are getting gradually slower and I can feel it when I'm out there. I haven't really looked forward to a run in a while now, maybe that's part of the problem :confused3 I guess I'm just suffering from a little non-motivation.

I think maybe I'll run a different route on Thursday and see if that changes anything...some new scenery might help. It may prove to be a long summer, with over 11 weeks still before Goofy training :(

I hate to sound like a complainer because the reality is that I'm running great paces and I'm injury free, I'm happy to be where I am...but it's how I feel at the moment. Maybe it's the monotony of waking up, sitting in traffic, going to work, sitting in traffic, exercising, eating dinner, doing more work from home and then sleeping....I need to shake some things up....maybe revisit ScoJo's "Vault of Crazy Ideas" and come up with something that throws a curveball into my routine.

Anyway, that's the more verbose update from my world. Thanks for stopping by...have a great day.

Oh Scott...it's ok to be in a running funk. That's my normal state  . Seriously...you have a right to complain and feel unsatisfied just like any of us...despite the fact that you are speedy quick LOL! It's not really about the time...it's about how you FEEL when you run. And if you aren't looking forward to the runs...then you really do need to evaluate why. I think switching up the old running route is a great idea! I also think that you should look at switching up your XT a bit too....throw something new at yourself and see if that spices up the workout routine.

I'm just sorry that my biggest running inspiration...ummm...YOU....are feeling a bit down about running :(. That's not to take anything away from how you feel...I just hate that when it happens to me and I hate it for you as well!

It sounds like life in general has you a bit down. I hope you cheer up soon and find something that gives you a bit of excitement and fun!!!

Hang in there and keep us posted!!! :)

I think you're suffering from post-LOST syndrome. :sad2: It's effecting us here in my house too. So sad, really.

I'm just messing with ya. :goodvibes Sorry you're not in the groove right now. I hope it finds you very soon. Do you have a long run planned for the weekend? When is the Peachtree? That's something exciting for you to look forward to. I know I'm the extreme novice here, but maybe just head out the door and see where your run takes you?!? That's what I do on my longer runs to mix it up. Never know where I'm gonna go and I decide as I'm coming up to the cross-streets. :upsidedow

Take care, Mr. Man. We're here for ya.

Hello DISland....

(DIS land is your land...DIS land is my land....DIS land was made for you and me....:confused3 :rotfl2: )

Yesterday I did an easy 30 minutes on the LifeCycle. I really wasn't feeling up to an intense workout, but I knew I needed to get something in the books. As soon as you start skipping workouts....it's just not a good thing. But I did feel pretty good afterwards, so that was a good thing.

Tonight I pulled a freshly mapped run out of the bag o' tricks and boy did it help :)

...this post will be continued later....(gotta run...sorry!)

Hello DISland....

(DIS land is your land...DIS land is my land....DIS land was made for you and me....:confused3 :rotfl2: )

Scott, you are too funny!:lmao: Thanks for the laugh this morning.:goodvibes

Great job getting the 30 minutes on the LifeCycle yesterday.:thumbsup2

Have a great weekend! Go CAVS!!!!:cheer2:

Ok....let's try this again...(sing along this time since you now know the words)

Hello DISland....

(DIS land is your land...DIS land is my land....DIS land was made for you and me.... ) :confused3 :rotfl2:

Monday I did an easy 30 minutes on the LifeCycle. I really wasn't feeling up to an intense workout, but I knew I needed to get something in the books. As soon as you start skipping workouts....it's just not a good thing. But I did feel pretty good afterwards, so that was a good thing. Sometimes good things cancel out bad things...you know, kind of like when you watch a crappy television show (bad thing) but you have fun watching it with the person you are watching it with (good thing)...kind of makes the show not so bad anymore. :happytv:

:confused3

Anyway...

Last night I pulled a freshly mapped run out of the bag o' tricks and boy did it help! Running the same route over and over and over kind of trained my body to know what to expect both mentally and physically, switching things up made me focus back on the running aspect of things...making sure I was maintaining a good pace, knocking out the 4/1's, etc. The only slight oversight that I made was the fact that there were NO flat portions on the run :scared1: Good gravy, them there hills are a might steep in my hood. I remember Amy telling me last year to make the hills my friend, carry a good convo with them...so I tried that again, but the hills didn't talk back too much...actually, they didn't say a word....it was kind of like talking to a wall, only the wall was a little diagonal and made me breathe really hard.

:confused3

Anyway...

I ended up doing 4.2 miles in 37:46, which is an 8:59 pace :woohoo: Needless to say, I was very pleased with the run...it was exactly what I needed to bring me out of my "funk". As a matter of fact, I'll add "change running route" to my "How to get self out of funk" spreadsheet. That reminds me... ...gotta make that spreadsheet...I think I'll add that to my "things to make sure I don't forget to do" spreadsheet...which is on my to do list for today.

:confused3

Anyway...

Arrrrrrgghhh....what crap be this? pirate: Anyone watching Pirate Master? I've tried to not fall asleep during both episodes. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but the show is not good....maybe it's the premise? the boring surviv..er, contest...er, pirates? the lame-o host? the remedial challenges? Where is the swashbuckling? Where are the parrots and wenches? What IS swashbuckling? Where is the mutiny? Where is the person walking the plank and being left out to sea? What IS a pirate master? I saw all three PotC movies and never once heard mention of a Pirate Master...I mean, if you win the show, can you start adding that to your resume? When you find yourself at a party and that hot young girl walks up to you and says "what do you?" Do you tell her "I am a Pirate Master" (good luck with that, unless she is familiar with the show and then equates the phrase with someone who now has a lot of money but that probably won't happen and you'll be driving back home alone yet again wondering exactly what it was that you did wrong, questioning your social status significance and end up drinking an entire bottle of wine all by yourself...but hey, maybe it was good wine...(see above good/bad cancellation policy)) These are all things that cross my mind when watching people jab pirate cards on a big sword. Why do they do that?

:confused3

Anyway....

Thanks for listening to me ramble...and no, I haven't completely lost my mind...I mean, I know where it is so how could I lose it? :confused3

:rotfl2:

Have a good day and a good weekend everyone...make like a good chardonnay!!

(stay cool and dry....chardonnay...get it? wait...are chardonnays supposed to be cool and dry? Hmmm....off to go google...)

:rotfl2: LOVE the song! :cool1:

Dis Land is your land...Dis Land is my land....:dance3:

OK Scott....first of all....AWESOME job on the run!!! :thumbsup2 That's so fast, especially considering the hills. Good job getting your bad self out of that running funk...which we may now call a RUNK. Cool...new word. We need to start our running dictionary. BFH...Runk...are there any more? It may be a very short dictionary :confused3 . (Had to add the confused shruggy smiley in there since you seem to enjoy shrugging...good shoulder exercise btw)

Now lay of the chardonnay at work Scott....you are drunk right? Sorry....I'm just assuming based on that crazy post you just wrote this morning. I honestly don't even know where to begin. But I will add that Chardonnay IS supposed to be cool and dry! Let's see.....well, I really can't address all the insanity in your post. But I am an expert in one area...so let me first attend to your question...

swash·buck·le (swshbkl, swôsh-)
intr.v. swash·buck·led, swash·buck·ling, swash·buck·les
To act as a swashbuckler, as in a movie or play.

OK...but does that definition really help? No. So allow me to educate you on swashbuckling. I do have my PhD in Piratology. Not sure if you realized that....

Although you and I may associate "swashbuckling" with pirate stories and Hollywood movies, the term was originally anything but complimentary. A "swashbuckler," when the word first appeared around 1560, was swaggering braggart, bully or ruffian. "Swashbuckler" actually came from the antiquated words "swash" (to make a noise by striking) and "buckler" (shield).
A "swashbuckler" was originally a mediocre swordsman who compensated by making a great deal of noise, strutting through the streets banging his sword on his shield, challenging passersby to duels, and just generally acting like a jerk. Thanks to movie magic, "swashbucklers" were transformed from loudmouthed losers into daring adventurers, roving the world in search of thrills and treasure (think Errol Flynn). Just how effective this historical rewrite was can be judged from the fact that "swashbuckler" has lately been adopted by investment bankers and corporate takeover artists to affectionately describe the most rapacious members of their breed.

So there you have it. I hope I have enlightened you :sunny:. I will be back later to post more.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I think you BOTH have been hittin' the bottle. :rolleyes1

LOVE the new word....RUNK! :thumbsup2 I wish you no more RUNKS, my friends. :goodvibes

Awesome job, Mr. Incredible, on the BFH's!! No flat portions?? I just don't know about that one. :headache: And that's one amazing time there, McSpeedy.

Have a swashbuckling weekend. pirate: arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh

You guys are too funny!:rotfl:

Great times on your run, Scott! Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

Have a great day! Arggghhh!pirate:
