Hello fellow WISHers. Since we have so many experienced runners and walkers here :worship: , I thought this might be a good place to start looking for advice.

I'm still fairly new to running (started in January). DH & I are training for the full. We ran 18 miles this weekend, which is my longest run yet. It went ok, but I have been experiencing some knee pain on the long runs. On my last three long runs, I start to have pain in my left knee after 14 miles or so. I have new shoes, but the pain happened with my old shoes as well, so I don't think the shoes are the issue. If I take a break and walk for a few minutes, the pain goes away and I can run another mile or so, but then the pain comes back and I have to walk again.

I've just started doing yoga, so I'm hoping that will help. If any of you have had any experience with knee pain, I'd love to hear what worked for you. I'm so excited to run my first marathon. I'd hate for something to go wrong now that I've come this far.

Thanks! :goodvibes

I feel your pain...no literally I FEEL your pain. I have only been able to get up to about 10 miles (16K) and then the knees hurt...no, kill me. :scared1: I've been hobbled.

From what I've been told rest is the key but since we are training that is not as easy to do. Check your running positioning. Quad strength training and lots of stretching for IT bands is what is needed. Other cardio activities that rest the knees but keep you fit...cycling, swimming and running on trails all help the increased impact on knees. Go to a doctor NOW just to confer and figure out your game plan. Do not mess with your legs. You'll need them AFTER the race.

I'm still planning to run but know I'll now need to walk most of the race. I don't know what else to do. I've done the whole thing... rest, new shoes, Chiropractor, massage route and still can't build more mileage without the pain. I'm actually quite discouraged about it.

Hope you find some relief.

Good advice, and make sure you stretch AFTER you have warmed up.

Don't be stretchin' cold muscles. Bad things can happen.

Thanks for the help everyone! I knew I came to the right place.

I have a doctor's appointment Monday morning, so hopefully all of your advice combined wither the doctor's advice will get me where I need to be.

Thanks again! :goodvibes
