RunDisney Package Question

I purchased a package through a TA at a resort for a RunDisney event. I had to pay upfront for the bib which is non-refundable and also get a room and MYW ticket as part of the package. We are now trying to save some money and want to still do the run, but may stay with family instead. If I cancel the resort reservation, will I lose my registration for the race? I already paid for the race and signed up for the items needed to run, and that I'm ok with. We don't want to miss the race, but could use the extra money in our pocket for other things that are going on by staying with family in the area instead....

From what I've read you cannot do what you want to do. Call the rundisney package people to see, but they aren't even letting people add discounts.

It's also possible that your email confirmation lays out what you can and cannot do.

You could probably get some good responses on the RunDisney forum on the Dis. I've done many disney races, but never through a travel agent. From what I understand, you will not be able to do what you want.

I'm pretty sure the package requires a 1-night stay, any night during race weekend, to keep your bib. If you had multiple nights booked for the package, maybe you can at least have your TA modify it to a single night at a less expensive resort.

I had a TA talk me into getting a RunDisney package, promising that she'd be able to add the discounts later... but early on in the process she mentioned something about the RunDisney call centre having problems with their system and not being able to add discounts. She said it "should" be fixed by the time discounts were released for 2018, but I was a bit skeptical so I got her to modify my package registration down to the absolute minimum (one night stay) to keep my bib.

I'm glad I did that. She still hasn't been able to apply a discount to that night. Never again. (Never that TA, and never another RD package.)

I don’t think there’s an advantage to booking a package for the US races. I never did. In the Paris race they didn’t release bib only until very late so there was a bit of incentive there. I still booked bib only though and got my room separately.

The only RD events I've done through a travel company were out of Disneyland, but those race packages were sold as a group rate package or something. Even the race registrations had more limitations than usual. It was valid for the race, but in the event my plans needed to change, the registration could not be deferred to the next year like a normal RD race registration. In one year they even had the limitation that you had to get tickets OR room through them if you were getting a race registration. If your registration is like this, I would think your whole package has contingencies.

The advantage is they will often have bibs after the main runDisney site sells out of bibs. I'm signed up for Wine & Dine because I want the 10th Anniversary Coast to Coast. At the time I signed up, runDisney's site was sold out of bibs. However, I was able to book through one of the TAs listed on their site.

Did you try signing up quite a while after the bibs were released? Races haven't been selling out very quickly since they raised their prices. When we signed up for the Princess Half, it sold out within an hour or so, but I don't think they do anymore. There are usually charity bib options too. I think I saw some that required as little as $400 in fundraising before.

Yes, it was months after registration had opened.

I usually book direct for everything. I very rarely use third-party sites or TAs when booking anything.

Makes sense then. I honestly didn't even realize they did packages, nor that there could be a package available when bibs were gone. Good to know for the future!
