Rumour- Virgin store- Diana's gown display

Just going off topic a bit here we have just returned from Orlando this week and there is a rumor going around that NASA Space Centre Kennedy is going to be closed down within the next year and everything moving to Houston ??, The Ticket person at Walmart told us then a few americans in our hotel were talking about it also at breakfast so i chipped in then said Obama wants the budget cut back on Space and Kennedy will go asap ????????? So dont know if this is true or just a rumor ....

I thought that NASA had two locations to give options for landing in difficult weather.

It would be a shame if it closed. But to be honest, we visited it once and found it interesting but haven't felt any desire to go back and do it again on subsequent visits.

doubt it, all the facilities for building and preping the new orion/ares rockets/vehicles are there, plus pad 39b is being rebuilt for launching the new rockets.

plus the shuttle program is still planned to go on until september 2010 so dismantling the site "within the next year" would be impossible.

Can't see many people paying those prices. I certainly wouldn't and my sons would have to be dragged in screaming. Really weird.

how weird:confused3 what an odd use of the space, no thanks.

I'm sure this will appeal to some but it seems a pretty desperate move to fill space, even temporarily. The Virgin closure is obviously a huge hole in the DD scene but I would have thought Disney would be better off working on a quick, long-term solution rather than a short-term fill-in of dubious intention. :confused3

The long-term future of the Visitor Center at KSC is certainly not set in stone but I would genuinely astonished if they moved it away as it remains a stand-alone attraction run by DNC Services, who have invested huge amounts in recent years it freshening it up and adding new attractions. We rate this VERY highly as a must-see in Central Florida and it just wouldn't make sense to close it down unless visitor numbers drop fof completely.

How very odd. It says it'll only be there till November though. Hope something better arrives after that.

Yes, that's right. I have it on very good authority that this is a travelling exhibit, so won't be permanent. It's in Tampa right now, and due to go back to London next year. I could reveal my sources, but then I'd have to kill you. Oh, alright, I give in, it's Susan Veness. Happy now? :rotfl2:

I can see why Disney wants to fill the space... but with this - seems bizarre to me too!

Can't quite see how it 'fits' in WDW - parents will have to be explaining to their children that: Diana was a princess, who got divorced.. and died in a car crash...
Not really a happily ever after?!

And at those prices, seems even more weird :confused3 ?

Might have something to do with the rent they will earn from the company doing it. Disney is a business. Its an empty property, they will earn from it.

So would they be the dresses that I saw in Kensington Palace a few years ago? Nice to see at the end of the tour but not an attraction in themselves.

I won't be going anywhere near it, there's no reason for us to go beyond market place now, the only reason we would go to westside would be puck express however we can just go to the other one instead.

Yes, I think so, dimplenose, but my understanding is that there is also a bit more to this exhibit. It returns full-time to Kensington next year. You can see more about the Tampa exhibit here: http://www.changingtheheartoftheworld.com/dress-for-humanity2.html

What struck me when I went to Kensington Palace was that the Queen's outfits that were on display were so much better made than Princess Di's which looked more like theatrical costumes.
