Rumors that Disney is in negotiations to sell Star Wars back to George Lucas!

She was overpowered, and she had the unlucky distinction of having Brie Larson as her actress. Brie said some stuff about "a wrinkle in time" that just made her poison to most men ever liking her. She basically told white men her movies are not for them, and they are giving her just that. Also she was late to the party after people had a long time with all the other avengers, she was therefore hard for people to accept over the original Avengers.
What she said was entirely correct. White men weren't the target audience for that movie, so why were they the main ones reviewing it?

"[Audiences] are not allowed enough chances to read public discourse on these films by the people that the films were made for. I do not need a 40-year-old white dude to tell me what didn't work for him about A Wrinkle in Time. It wasn't made for him. I want to know what it meant to women of colour, to biracial women, to teen women of colour, to teens that are biracial."

All of those quotes are taken out of context. Brie's fine - she jsut got sick of a lot of the hate lobbed her way. Also, why did she need to be accepted over the original Avengers. What did she do that was greater than them. She got punched in the face by Thanos, then Tony & Steve saved the day. But, you know, they make all the women sooooo much better. Please.

To be fair, A Winkle in Time didn't mean much to any of them either! It colossally tanked.

I saw the hate before I saw the movie unfortunately. And when I actually went to the theater I was like "well of course snowflakes hate her, she is awesome and her cast is awesome" I don't understand why women can't be over the top superheroes when nobody is sayin Captain America is over the top. Or Hawkeye doing epic arrow stunts, or Iron Man building a super suit with scraps, tape and a prayer.

Like, it's all unrealistic. That's the point!
Captain is only that way due to super soldier serum, and has lots of flaws. He began as a 130 lb weakling.

Hawkeye has no powers, and is the weakest Avenger......he's only skill is he's a good shot.

Iron Man invents tech and that his only skill other than he's a great leader. He is always right on the edge of croaking due to his bad ticker.

Captain Mavel is the most powerful person in the entire MCU villains included. She can fly faster than anyone else, she is stronger than anyone else, she can harness energy better than anyone else, she can't be killed. She could whip all the three men mentioned above easily and kill the two mortals in seconds. You really don't think she is overpowered? You can never lose a fight with her, she is the ultimate weapon.

To be fair, Wanda could have beaten Thanos had he not ordered his ship to fire, and Carol could have beat him if he didn't rip out the power stone to punch her. :)

But yes, Tony saved the day in the end - as he should have.

I'm ignoring all the debate about Captain Marvel because that movie meant so much to me. Hearing her tell Jude Law "I have nothing to prove to you" was absolutely incredible. Not to mention the montage showing her getting back up again while she broke free of her bonds. The right people didn't get the message of the movie!

Because how dare ppl make things that aren't for 40 yo white dudes. Don't you know those are the main and should be the only target audience always? Who cares about everyone else on the planet? That's some woke nonsense.

:rotfl:

Gods I love her, she said what everyone has been saying for years, but she said it louder.

To the tune of 1.131 billion dollars, which that movie made? Oh let me guess, that was simply because it was a Marvel movie so it did that well. Much like Ant-Man...oh wait.
I never said that one didn't do well, it did have a massive benefit of being sandwiched between two of the biggest marvel movies of all time.

You might want to wait until the sequel comes out to declare her the queen of the box office though. It may do fine though, I love Monica Rambo.

So did Ant Man and the Wasp and it made a little more than half of that.

And again with the leap to absolutes from you.

CM is the strongest Avenger, it's not close at all. If she has a weakness, I don't know what it is. I found myself saying where the heck has she been all these years? Having her on your team is the ultimate cheat code. Call her first next time Nick!

What absolutes? It was sandwiched between two of the biggest movies in marvel history. I never said another one wasn't also. Ant man is a throw away character that no one cares about, with pretty stupid powers. Call him when you need to get a thorn out of the Hulk's butt.

She’ll be nerfed once Rogue comes along.

I kinda get what he's saying - but I really don't think the issue is super widespread, at least not in movies. I do see this kind of thing in comic books a lot, but comics have generally lousy writers these days. Most of the big movie franchises are fine with how they write women I think. So many of these characters that are cited as having no flaws, actually o, in fact, have flaws.
I wouldn't say they have no flaws, but that the flaws that are written in are generally inconsequential and don't cause any problems for them.

Female leads used to be much more interesting characters, IMO.

I realize I'm in a dangerous area here where saying the wrong thing is going to make people assume I hold all kinds of opinions about women and other things.

I think there's a lot of merit to the ideas and ideals behind the concept of "representation matters", and that ultimately having characters like Rey, Captain Marvel, and Galadriel out there is a positive for a lot of little girls. I also think it's a double edged sword that has put pressure on studios to create these iconic characters within flagship IP's and make sure they do justice to the entire female gender, rather than focusing at all on telling an interesting story.

It's why Jyn Erso is a million times better than Rey (and why Rogue One is so much better than any other Star Wars content created in the last 30 or so years). Creative people just got to be creative with characters that they knew had to die at the end of the movie anyway.

And while Galadriel is probably the worst offender, that entire LOTR series is so awful in so many ways that it's hardly her fault. But her character and her story are both just terribly written and executed.

Wanda is my favorite Marvel female character though. So troubled and so complex. So much power your scared she will melt the world around you at any moment. A lot of good, but also a lot of bad. Awesome character in the comics too.

This is why I will always lobby for MORE female characters. If you have one character, she has to represent an entire gender. Same goes for any other group. This is why I don't understand why people argue against diversity. The more diversity you have, the more realistic characters, the better stories, etc.

Three biggest offenders lately to the "Strong Female Lead" troupe to me are:
- Rey Palpatine
- Captain Marvel
- Galadriel

An honorable mention would be Reeva for me.

Only if they stop with the crap and write them as real believable characters with actual flaws and failures.

Being a 130 lb weakling is NOT A FLAW. Flaws don't mean outward, physical strength only. Steve's about as lacking in flaws as a character can be - that's by design.

Also, Carol got her butt kicked by Thanos - big time! Steve though? He could do that all day. Cap would easily beat Carol in a fight - because he's Captain America. I think that's pretty clear.

Carol's flaws are that she didn't look deeper at things, she tends to be a reactionary and brash, and her hair. 😉

And I ask again. Why does it matter? Men are written the same way, with inconsequential flaws that don't cause them problems and it's never been a problem. Specially when we are talking about fantasy and sci fi. It's all unrealistic and fake. Why is it suddenly a problem if it's a woman that is written just like men are?
