Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

OK, I was thinking that the only entrance was right off the Rain Forest path - that where the barrier for construction was anyway...

But here's a map that Robo posted on Rteetz's OFFICIAL Pandora Dis thread (https://www.disboards.com/threads/official-pandora-the-world-of-avatar-information-thread.3587311/) - this makes more sense.

Yes, it verifies the main entrance is next to Tiffins, just like when you used to go to Camp Minnie/Mickey.

The back entrance is past the bathrooms behind FOTLK.

If you were thinking there was an entrance by front gate .... not Disney's style.

That's what it looked like to me from my lounging couch at the Nomad Lounge. We could look that way over the bridge. There were all kinds of weird noises coming from the area. A little unsettling but I comforted myself with my rum drink.

Oh my, weird noises .......... it would have been hard for me to leave my couch I would have been so intrigued. :magnify:

Since ROL has NO FIREWORKS I thought this would be something of interest .......
................ haha, just trying to play six degrees of ROL to stay in topic.

Been all over my FB timeline that Reedy Creek has had to constantly address brush fires due at the DHS Launch site.

Interesting and scary.

DS just called me and said on Twitter there is discussion that the City of Orlando and the State of Florida
are pressuring Disney to CANCEL ALL fireworks
while Central Florida is under such a drought/high fire risk time.

Can you imagine the uproar?

No night parade ......... no fireworks?

Ugly may get uglier

Ugly but understandable - it is scary! On our trip last week we never had one drop of rain. Clouds every day and the threat of rain, but not a drop, at least not where we were. It was weird, I've never experienced that on a trip before, and I kept thinking about the drought conditions.

The fires not long ago were close, just NE of outlet stores and visible from parks. It was on International by Sheraton Vistana Villages, Sea World and lots of tourist spots. Imagine staying there and not knowing where to go.

I've been in FL during fires and watched them jump from tree to tree and jump across the expressway. It is terrifying and so easy to get trapped. I once woke up at hotel and outside was the creepiest thing I ever saw and we smelled so bad of smoke. It looked like the end of the world. We hit the road and got out of there asap.

I would be fine with them not shooting fireworks if they are finding they don't really have it under control. Not worth the risk.

There were fires somewhat close when I was there a few weeks ago. You can see the smoke in this pic, which was towards the end of the first week in April. It was super windy this day, when we opened the balcony doors it definitely had a hint of 'camp fire' in the air.

PS: To keep this somewhat on topic, that's two trips now where I still haven't made it over to see ROL. Just could never fit it in this last trip. Maybe next time...

Can you imagine after all this, after a year and almost 800 pages, tshirts and buttons .......................... there is no more urgency to fit it in to a trip? We were there in April with a friend and he had no interest after all he read .......... we ended up not even going to AK and I love it there. We are going to the Pandora AP preview, chose 6-8 pm (hoping for slight crossover to the lights on), even with 9:15 show ... no plans to try.

I will admit my personal interest to see the show is very, very strong, but traveling with the kiddos has "gotten in the way" of making the trek to AK during our particular travels. I'll push through that obstacle for things like Wishes or Illuminations, but just worried that the show, the waiting, the seats, the longish bus ride, etc, isn't a great recipe for us at this moment in time. That will change as they get older, I suspect. I still haven't watched any videos and I rush past Twitter and blog photos! Someday....

I'm in the camp that really liked the Jungle Book show (I know, :duck:), and me and DS had one of our best nights ever at AK last July. We still talk about it. It was my "aha" moment with AK where I suddenly had a much better appreciation for the park and everything that it offers.

Me and DS are going down for one of the AP Pandora previews as well. We're in the mid-afternoon time slot. I haven't totally decided but I think that evening we'll likely head over to MK for the new show there and not stick around AK. Probably opposite of what Disney wants! :-)

That picture is really scary, @GADisneyDad14! I can't imagine waking up to something like that, @HopperFan! We never have a car when we go to WDW; it would be so frightening to have your kids with you and have no control in what would be such a chaotic environment. Ugh... It reminds me...my parents took us to WDW in '78 and we stayed at the Contemporary - there was really only the Poly and the Contemporary to choose from at that point, and my dad was told that generally, CR was for families and Poly was for honeymooners, so we went to CR. However, my mom had both a fear of heights and a fear of fire - she always requested a ground floor room anywhere we went. We did NOT get a ground floor - my dad loved it there but it was rough going for my mom - I think she was wishing we opted for the Poly! Ah, good times...

On to the other topic...it is interesting after all this time to see how/when we all eventually get there! You've seen it, correct HopperFan? Things were a little hectic the weeks before my trip so I wasn't online much, but I thought you were able to get there! I will need to go back a few pages... I'm already debating about it when I go with my kids with my daughter's dance company in November. We've never done anything like that - we plan on tacking on a few days, but hoping to do a Christmas Party so I'm not sure if we can fit ROL in. I'm not sure what the commitment will be with the dance group, but I'm sure my daughter will want to be with her friends as much as she can. I'm not much of a big group gal - not a fan of the waiting for people and whatnot :sad2: so I'm going to need to mentally prepare for this trip!

Yes I saw it and put my review somewhere back there. I tried to be open, take good notice of all going on and around me ..... they had something good started ..... they just didn't finish it nor look at the bigger picture of the choreography and issues outside the theater. Everyone should see it once but I would not mess with plans or kill myself to go.

Oh well, I think it's a gap filler at this point and hoping lots of lessons are learned for next go round. But with Pandora and the fire issues at DHS, it may stay busy. I am hoping if Disney does pull back on fireworks it won't be at MK or Epcot where they seem to have the "fire" issue under control.

Well, we are going the end of October and with all the closures at HS, now even including Great Movie Ride, (Who would pay $99 to spend the day at HS with so few attractions?), we are planning to go one evening for Star Wars dessert party and blowing off the rest of the park. So I'm anticipating that AK will remain very busy for the foreseeable future. Hopefully once Pandora opens, some of the crowds will be absorbed and ROL will MAYBE be a little more workable.

I apologize in advance .....

SO ..... Disney .... who took a couple years to figure out how to get a couple water floats to drive to their spots on a very small wide open lagoon .................. wants their guests to get in driver-less shuttle buses .............. think I will pass.

Walt Disney World plans to deploy driverless shuttles at theme parks

"..... said the company plans a pilot program later this year to transport employees in the electric-drive robot vehicles. If that goes well, they said, the shuttles would begin transporting park visitors sometime next year."

Eh, assuming this would be an outside company's vehicles... I'd try it. Not sure why they are trying so hard to move people from park to park when its hard enough to move IN the park... :rotfl2:

And why do they want to spend millions on stuff that will impact minimal number of guests
when they need to spend MILLIONS on attraction upgrades and additions that will impact the masses.

Dear Friends ......................

My breath has been taken away by just a couple photos on Instagram of the practice run last night of Happily Every After. One photo alone has me so so excited. I don't want to spoil it .... but if you want to look at this one photo, it is shot from Poly??

Scroll within that post there are a couple more. Add that to castle projecting and some fireworks ......

One thing this tells me is MK Resorts value has gone up! and I could see another resort being built out there.

And I will be there in a few weeks to see it!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

I read something this morning about how the show has plenty of fireworks and was about 6 minutes longer than Wishes. Sounds good to me! I have never seen Wishes, only the MVMCP one so I wouldn't have anything to compare it to. But I know a lot of people are sad about Wishes so hopefully they will enjoy this show.
