Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

I always find that the day after I RETURN from Disney to be so depressing! Maybe because we never know when our next trip will be? I don't think that I can wait two years!

Soooo, can I bore you all with much talk of giraffes?
It will likely be two years for us too before we go back. So in the meantime, giraffe discussion would be loads of fun. :cheer2:

We had the BEST day at HS yesterday! Star Tours, Characterpalooza, TSMM twice (once with a FP and once with a 10-minute SB wait (!) right before SW fireworks), Club Villain, SW character meets and Jawa trading, and SW fireworks from the bus stop. CV was a hit with DD and DH. They both asked if we could do it again.

This morning we're at AK. The CMs love the ROL button. One asked where he could buy one - luckily I remembered the site address! We had a PPO breakfast at Tusker and were first in the standby line for Kilimanjaro Safaris. They picked us as a "first family" and we got the first truck out all to ourselves! It was SO awesome! On the train to Rafiki's now. I'll have more updates later!

Ok, so I just watched a review of the nighttime safari by AllEarsNet and it was less than stellar. Deb & Deb said it was nothing like they thought, you could barely see the animals, the screens with the sunset are behind trees so it just looks like trees are burning in the distance and you never get close to them.

I'm a little disappointed. They suggested trying it at real sunset time but I think that will interfere with the JB show. Ugh. What to do, what to do? I wonder if they'll do any tweaks to it....

Reading the same. Tried to watch some video and it really is low light. AND gotta say I feel bad for those animals, do they get no peace?

But I would love some giraffe talk! The one baby is out at the AKL, too cute!

GIRAFFE TALK:

At our local Zoo you can feed the giraffes ............ so cool.

They eat SO MUCH they have to bring it in anyway so it works for them to let guests feed them a few times a day (and it raises some money).

Last time line was long and then he wandered away. May try to go this week so I can feed them! :yay:

Is Houston your local zoo? They have this same set up and we love it!

I'm not thrilled after reading the poor review and video of the nighttime safari. Maybe I shouldn't change our fastpass for that one.

Well, that's disappointing isnt it? Not sure I want to waste a FP on it now....

And a bit about our trip-We made a last minute change to our vacation and rather than staying at YC for the whole time we split our stay and spent two nights at AKL-Jambo House. I am so glad we did. We spent a lot of time on our balcony, we were in a 3rd floor room on Zebra trail, totally awesome view!

We realized we have a lot to do with our upcoming move, and really need to make a trip there in Oct rather than WDW. I'm looking forward to hearing about other lounger's trips in the meantime. :goodvibes

Pleas tag me if you do a TR as we're going to the darkside for the first time this summer. THNX

@figmentfan423 I'm not doing a trip report but if you have questions, you can PM me! We've utilized the heck out of Child Swap today since DS11 didn't want to ride a lot of the dark rides (my little chicken! He's afraid of EVERYTHING!) so he sat out with DD3 when she wasn't tall enough (or I told her she wasn't tall enough because I knew the ride would scare her). I like Universal's version of child swap! I'm gonna miss that at Disney... Well not child swap but the way Universal does it.

Wish I had camera when there but only my phone so not great .... and wish the baby was close to the adults for perspective.

Just wanted to run out there and hug it's neck!!

First time we stayed was savanna view and lots of giraffes every day. I didn't want to leave the room.

Were you there too this week? Yes, we had a hard time getting ready and out the door this week - tough to drag ourselves off the balcony! People loved the shirt, by the way!

My savanna room was years ago ..... but I was there for 36 hours, mostly sleeping (stayed at B Resort) .... ate at Mara before leaving so walked out to see animals. DS did the SW 10k and Half. Used to run the races for time so never got to enjoy so this was all about jogging and stopping. Sat went great but that night something in hip snapped loudly enough for me to hear and displaced in hip. PAIN. I was sure he wouldn't do Half but he had to at least start to get the medals. Kept waiting for call to get him but just kept getting texts of where he was. Had a friend with him who is not a "runner" and he wanted to try for them. Double his normal time but he finished. Lots of pain since but will heal. I was not going but ended up he had to be back Sunday night so very last minute I went as the driver home.
