Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Is anyone buying the "tech issues" reason for the delay?

Haven't they been out there testing on a daily basis?

If it's a tech issue wouldn't they cease testing until the issue is corrected?

So many questions, so few Disney blog posts with answers.
Someone needs to get #riversofLOL trending on Twitter.

Hey all! I've been watching, reading, laughing, cheering and joining in the disappointment of today's announcement since the beginning of the thread. Have not been on the boards since our last trip five years ago and had to recreate a new sign in because what I had remembered did not work. Bummer to earn my ears all over again but wanted to say that I am sorry for those with trips planned shortly and thank you to all those posters with a sense of humor. This has by far been my most favorite thread to watch and read on the boards in 10 years!

Wanted to share that I had a CM tell me on the phone about a month back that I was in for a real treat as Toy Story Land would be open when we visit in August, lol!!!! What?!? First and last I heard of this! Didn't think so and haven't heard a peep. Our trip is planned for THIS August. So again, a grain of salt with the non official comments received over the phone! And I wasn't speaking to Maggie!!!!
Omg...Maggie has a twin....

Not so happy about these either and by the time our May 15th trip comes,it will be to late to see how these(am and pm) will effect us. People are already crowding at MK with everything NOT going on at DHS and EPCOT and no Evening at AK for now.so this just doesn't seem to help it. I don't get it.

Yeah, we just realized that there is a Disney After Hours event on one of our MK days. Thankfully, we were planning to resort hop and made FPs for MK just in case we decide to go in the afternoon. I'm hoping it will still be fun if we want to stay in the park, but at least we weren't dead set on it.

I'm very glad that the morning things manage to not conflict with the day we wanted to rope drop MK - I love the welcome show and want my mom to see it, and I'm not sure if that would still happen with the morning event or not. Plus, it's fun to be at rope drop and be in the first bit of people into the parks :P

I'm hoping I'll be able to find a review or thread before we go, but as late as these are starting in April I'm just not sure. I'm secretly hoping the DIS does a podcast review, just because I'd love to hear the inevitable snark :P

I'm not sure where to begin here...

The Disney that I know is missing. The theme lately has been too much Nickel and Diming us, delays, closings, etc. I'm left scratching my head about the behind closed doors leadership decisions. It appears to be too much silo work and not a lot of team communication.

However, I just want to focus on RoL. This is flat out poor leadership. I'll let everyone in on something... There was zero reason to announce a date, until that date was 100% certain. Without a hard date announcement, all of us would be waiting with anticipation, looking for rumors, and growing in excitement. Now we're all sitting here angry, frustrated, and confused about another strange and ultimately negative announcement. A company this size should know better. Most of us here are Disney nerds that are at least one, sometimes two trips a year. (I'm a twice a year guy!) Unfortunately we often forget about the ones whose trip is "once in a lifetime", and might have planned around this very event. I know, I know, things happen, timelines change. This is exactly why you wait to make an announcement. An unforeseen delay, should've pushed dates back a week or so, not a month.

I'm sure to get negative feedback on this post and I'm okay with that, what I'm not okay with are the last six weeks of announcements that have rolled out of WDW.

I'm with you - I don't get why they announced it with such certainty when it is not their norm - and certainly they've known for a while it wasn't going to make the 4/22 date. I'm not a "once in a lifetime" for our April trip - but it's going to be a while until we're back and I'm very disappointed. But I've said for a while, I get delays and problems, what I don't get is the hype machine churning out blog posts when they must have known it wasn't going to make the date. Who said that the right gloved mouse hand doesn't know what the left gloved mouse hand is doing??

FWIW, Early Morning Magic dates were released today....

Hmm, they're showing these mornings up to the end of June. I sure hope these aren't going to continue into July.....

No negative feedback here. I agree with you!!

I'm April! April 15th - 23rd. I'm the fool that extended my trip for ROL, lol! :jester:

I'm not even sure what to do with my trip/planning. I feel like I need to sleep on it and approach it with a fresh brain tomorrow! Now for our last day, we'll do Extra Magic at Mk to say "goodbye", then late morning 'Ohana breadfast, then hotel relaxation and AK at some point. who knows why?

Still haven't resolved the extra magic swap on the front end of the trip due to the paid night. I just got a pre-park BOG for Sunday the next day. Wasn't planning on MK, but now thinking I may use it to inspire a 4 park day! MK breakfast, late morning at HS, lunch at Epcot (HS and E were already planned), check in at AKL, then maybe popping in at AK in late afternoon just because!

I'm with you - I give up! The money I saved up for preview parties will be spend on adult beverages, that I know!

Oh I did not realize your trip was so soon. For some reason I thought yours was a May trip. I am sure it will all work out for all of us now that the initial blow is over. I am still playing around with different ideas.... Go back to our resort let the kids swim and get a late dinner at Narcoosees to watch Wishes or go to Trader Sam's with the money I will save lol!!!

Am I missing something on the Early am dates- I clicked the link but see no dates with info?
All I see are Tuesdays and Saturdays-from when until when? Forever?
So Tues was a non EMH day now has am- Wed is eve EMH- Thur is now DAH- because clearly MK is not that busy so Disney needs to find a way to increase attendance!
"Disney Early Morning Magic is a separately ticketed event taking place on select Tuesdays and Saturdays from 7:45 AM to 10:00 AM. However, the number of available tickets is very limited—be sure to buy your tickets before it’s too late!"

End of April thru end of June right now.

Trader Sam's! I hadn't thought of that...hmmm...

Joe Rhode was at AK last week, which is some of the reason I don't buy the tech delay.

My evil side says the show sucked and is being reworked.

4/24 - Check into Pop, MK, 'Ohana dinner
4/25 - Epcot, Cape May Café dinner
4/26 - Epcot AM, Hollywood Studios PM - no ADR
4/27 - MK all day, Kona Café dinner unless I can get a BOG
4/28 - well, who knows?! Olivias Café for dinner & Disney Springs, I think!?
4/29 - MK all day, Tony's dinner
4/30 - Check out of Pop, MK until noon
We'll be at MK on 4/30! ... and now so will the extra morning magic people.

And we have an 8 am BOG. :'(

Icing on the no-RoL cupcake.

My daughter's first day at Disney, was excited for a BOG 8 am breakfast. Now I need to rework my entire plan for MK 4/30 and AK 5/2.

I... feel a little heart broken at the moment.

So, these people will also have to have park admission for the day right?

I'm so sorry!! That's exactly how I felt when they switched the dates for the paid night thing. I still haven't cancelled my pre-park BOG because I'm in denial! It's so hard to roll with the punches - to be "fluid" if you'll forgive me ;) - when it's at such a late date! I was still dealing with the uncertainty so you have the double blow - so sorry!

Wow.....I can't say I am surprised but still. Our trip is in April, and it was supposed to be a non-parks trip. But when they announced April 22 for ROL all of a sudden that changed and I have to admit I got pretty darn excited. Our trip is a road trip to celebrate my Mom's 60th Birthday, our itinerary:

4/26: Fly to Orlando, AKL Jambo
4/27: Discovery Cove, dinner at Sanaa
4/28: Tea at the GVTR, drive to Savannah
4/29: Tour of Savannah
4/30: HHI
5/1: HHI
5/2: HHI, drive back to MCO Hyatt
5/3: Fly back to Seattle

Between suddenly reverting back to a non-park trip and Seaworld's recent Killer Whale announcement I am feeling a little disappointed about this trip. Debating cancelling our DC day, honestly. As someone who works with animals, and sees wild killer whales locally, I see great importance in them being available for the public to see.

I'm sure by tomorrow I'll be excited again. My roomate and I have a WDW trip/Dream cruise booked for March 2017 so it's not like I won't get to see ROL. Mom honestly could care less and was mostly just going along with my AK night plans. Whoever posted the stages of grief, I am definitely feeling the shock right now!
