Tried that and it's not working!

Sorry to all the April and May folks. I am cautiously optimistic that the mid-late May timeframe was to give them plenty of breathing room. Hopefully they can announce something by early May and the show will be up and running by June.

I do think they should have extended the hours and gone on with the other nighttime events if ROL was the only thing not ready. Curious to know if the tree is not ready either. From other reports it seemed like it was on schedule to be ready by the 22nd.

Post however said mid May update not announcement or start. I think it's gonna be June from that but as you said hopefully being overly cautious

I just did something I swore I'd never do. I now have 2 ADRs for our each of our AK/ EPCOT days knowing full well I'll cancel one each day. I really didn't want to do this bit if AK closes at 5 as scheduled I'll keep lunch if they have night hours in August I'll keep the dinners. I hate being an ADR hog.

Good grief, I can't believe it!:sad2: My sympathies to all of our April and May friends. I am so disappointed for all of you. The only consolation is that at least Disney finally made the announcement and you can move forward with your plans. Since we won't be there until mid July, I was really looking forward to living vicariously through all you folks. After this fiasco, I'm not even counting on July!!

Strangely, I'm not disappointed in the slightest.

I'm flying down on Friday!! I couldn't be happier. :cloud9: I'm going to get to spend the next nine days in the parks, and I'm really excited to see the construction work being done on Animal Kingdom. And spend a final few quiet afternoons in the park, before everything changes. It'll be about 18 months before we come back, so everything should be done by then, and there will be no more deserted Animal Kingdom to enjoy, just before close. I'm excited for the new stuff, and it sure would have been nice to see a preview, but at the same time, I really enjoyed getting in three rides on Everest, a few on Primeval Whirl, Dinosaur and a few more on Primeval Whirl, all in the last hour of the park. It was one of my favourite things to do, before hopping over to Epcot or the Magic Kingdom for the rest of the evening!

So yep, I'm very happy right now. Life is good!

How bad must the technical difficulties gave been if their next announcement is not planned until a month after the expected open date?

Or do we think they are saying mid to late May so people will stop calling every day, but they actually plan to make an announcement sooner?

A week or two delay seems acceptable, but a month or more? They clearly knew long before today they weren't going to make the 4/22 open!

Now do I rearrange my plans for late May again, or just keep hoping...????
This is my hope. They are buying themselves time. If they get it ready earlier then that's a plus for them and they've kept people off their backs. Maybe they actually learned their lesson from this fiasco.

:sad1: How sad. Even though my plans were set around not seeing it, I was still holding out hope that everything would fall into place. I do agree that it is a bit mean to show video of how awesome the tree looks. My only question is what is not complete about the tree projections or night safari that they can't start that part without ROL? Guess this means I'll have to plan a trip in the fall once AP blockout dates are over. Maybe it will actually be done by then. So sorry for people that won't be able to return.

I've skipped a few pages, but did anyone else think there were some similar tones/messages on the DPB as what people posted here? Not putting down the DPB blogger's at all, but maybe the mouse was/is reading this?!

I'm disappointed. I know things happen, but now I have no reason to justify my extra weekend trip and have to cancel it. Hopefully that goes well since I'm within 30 days. But I'm fortunate that there's another trip in a few months.
If anyone's there next week, I'll be wearing my button!

Oh man! I'm still upset thinking about this. It seems they are making an announcement at the beginning of each month. Maybe we'll get an announcement beginning of May for opening mid-late May... (Optimism)

As someone visiting in early June, I'll try to share your optimism. Though, I'm afraid to hope too strongly.

I love AK and have really been looking forward to this. Sad day. Hope all the April/May guests still enjoy their time without too much disappointment.

I am sure this is unrelated still interesting...

"The shocking and sudden departure of Thomas Staggs as Walt Disney Company’s chief operating officer Monday has blown open the race to succeed Bob Iger atop the entertainment giant. It likely means that for the first time since the 1980s, Disney will look outside its ranks for a new leader to guide the company through an era of tremendous changes in the entertainment landscape."
