Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Ok, so because no (good) ROL news today, I have a question for my fellow support group members. Looks like the boys and I, minus mom and dad but add in a hubby...lol, will also be traveling to Disney in June 2017. For that trip, my co-worker friend is going to rent us her DVC points. They have 140 points they will rent. With just us 4, we'll do a studio. We won't be able to do BLT, GF, or the Poly, but everything else is doable. I'm mostly focusing on Boardwalk, Beach Club, or AKL (Jambo or Kidani) savanna view. I like the theming of AKL best and think I like the bathroom set up at Kidani more than Jambo. I like the atmosphere/location at BW or BC.

Looking for any and all opinions!

What home resort's points will your friend be using? Whichever one ask her to make a reservation there at the 11th month window so u have a place to stay . Summer studios go quickly.

At the 7 month window she can call in and try to switch. Would be able to see what resorts have availability then

Have stayed at most. blt and bcv are amazing but tuff to secure at 7 months. For that reason we tend to stay at akv for relaxing vibe. Bwv for food & wine and Vwl for party nights...although I'm attempting to use pints else until construction is completed

One nice thing about studios at Okw is it has two real beds vs bed/sofa bed

Was just thinking about this ( due to the other thread regarding the "Extra Magic" event ) and thought might be
For our family, that would be $600 --- ( would never do it) -- would never say that other people are crazy for doing it (it's personal preference) , but would just rather spend that $600 elsewhere.

Ok, so if you HAD to spend it, what would YOU do?

Thought about it --- would get (4) discounted tix ( via Cirque club) to "La Nouba" and have dinner before the show at
"T-Rex" --- AND ... have a nice QS meal at MK and then head to the Contemporary to do "Pirate and Pals"

Anyone else?

It's funny that you say this...on the ride home from the hockey game, I was lamenting about the fact that the preview parties had been cancelled :( And then I was thinking about the fact that I had squirreled away all of the money to pay for the preview party. :squirrel:

Disney is kind of in the doghouse with me for changing up all the April hours at this late date, and even though I understand that delays can happen with new attraction and shows and such, the lack of information this past month about ROL has been frustrating to say the least. So, part of me wants to keep my cash and not spend any more.

But of course the other part of me wants to spend that cash on some other cool thing!

So in conclusion...I am taking suggestions...

Let's assume the cost is $149 PP ---

Well, let's see...if you did NOT have a ticket for the day, assuming you would be buying a One Day ticket for MK - that would have cost $100+ depending on what season you were visiting. THen, there is the bountiful ice cream novelties and sodas, but more importantly, the UNCROWDED and UNLIMITED access to the entire park...no waiting for the rides... If I lived close, and wanted to do something really special, and didn't have an Annual Pass, or multi-day pass, I might consider it doing the after hours one....you can come into the park 3 hours before normal closing time, and stay a couple hours after the rest of the park clears out...might be worth it...

Other things I might do:

the African Wildlife Trek - I've done it twice, and that is such a great tour!!

Maybe spend a bundle at a SPA? Or VIP tours,...oh yes, there are lots of places I could spend that money!

On the topic of arriving early, we are actually flying in the night before and arrive very late (land at 11:30 pm). I have an offsite hotel booked for that first night. When we get up we will make a grocery stop before heading to POR. I expect we will arrive by noon and plan to head to MK for a few hours. I know we can leave our bags with bell service if the room is ready, but what bout our small amount of groceries? There won't be any refiregerator items, mostly water, beer, and breakfast and snack items. I suppose we can leave them in the car, but the Florida heat in July won't be so good if stuff is in the car for a few hours

That's awesome. Are these resort specific?
Do you mean the online checkin room request? Many are similar - close to lobby, lower floor, upper floor, ground floor, etc. Some are more specific, like the villas...

I don't know if this link will be filtered, but it goes at a site will all the room requests for each resort...

http://wdwprepschool.com/how-to-get-the-disney-world-resort-room-requests-views-rooms/

If it is filtered out, do a google search for "how to get the Disney world resort room you want"

If I had extra cash I'd do the Wild Africa Trek

Yes, prob should have mentioned we are AP holders--- would love to do the Trek !!! Gotta put that on the list !!

Her home resort is SSR, which we've stayed at before and are again, so if we happen to get stuck there, it wouldn't be the end of the world. She's doing the same week this year as us (would be comparable to next year's week, as well). They got switched to BWV first, then BCV came through. She said she's never not gotten one that she requested but I do understand it's not guaranteed.

We are doing SSR on cash this June (1 bedroom) but we REALLY wanted OKW bc those 1 bedrooms are HUGE! Unfortunately, it never showed availability for our dates at the spring discount. Oh well.

She will make the SSR ressie in July. We actually already discussed those details. But thanks for letting me know!

boy, I have NEVER been able to change my check boxes for room requests...here's what I have right now for POFQ. I could select "arriving early" but the other check boxes are locked, and there is no "reset". I can change my arrival time on the screen before this one, but that's about it.

There is a very good chance from my sleep deprived days of checking for ROL packages I never hit done. 8-)

That would be unbelievable - I don't have quite enough $ for that - yet! Not sure it would still be available by the time I do! I was also thinking about the "Dining with an Animal Specialist" at Sanaa, but ONLY IF I GET THE BREAD SERVICE!

Speaking of Sanaa ---- got so fed up with this ROL nonsense --- booked a dinner there for our next trip --
Had been going to "Boma" but really miss Sanaa !!

We have a reservation for Boma - we've never been... but since yesterday's conversation I've been thinking of switching it! Although I've heard Boma is very good!

KCP's post about the meal at V&A and the bag for me sums up how ridiculous it would be for us as a family to pay for the extra hours. I hope many other people agree and the whole thing is a wash out to maybe teach disney about greed and exploitation. Of course it won't happen like that, people will pay it and they will carry on cutting corners and increasing costs.
So many things have come to life throughout the length of this thread that have started to make me feel less than magical towards disney and I'm devastated about that!

The Aqua Seas Tour at Epcot is a lot of fun. We did this about five years ago, so not sure how much Disney raised the price on this one.

They are both very good, but with a 5 and 10 year old, the buffets OOP don't really pay for us anymore -- there's just so much they can eat

I hear you! My son loves CP so we're doing it on the first night of our trip with the DDP - we're just doing the DDP just for the first part of the split stay (2 days) and we put Boma and CP for then! the 10 YO adult thing is a pain!

Would you consider Early Check in a higher priority over the other amenities? I have requested higher floor and near transportation, but we'll be arriving early. Thus far, we have been able to get into our room early except the 1 time I requested it, lol. That was at POR.
ETA: This time we are staying at AoA.

Depends on what time I arrive and if the resort is sold out the night before. If it is I figure there is little chance of it

I have modified my online check in twice now since the original check in.

Bell services will store and refrigerate it if needed
