Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

I'm biased because DH worked there for a few years, but I love love love the Beach Club! I love the atmosphere, the pool area is wonderful, you have so many dining options all around the boardwalk, and being able to walk to 2 parks is so convenient. One of my husbands best friends is the project manager for the Beach Club Villas rehab, and so far the new rooms look really nice.

Having said all that...we're staying at Disney this August and we picked Animal Kingdom Lodge! DS is staying there next week with my parents and I know that, between the animals and the pool, he's going to be desperate to go back! It's not the most convenient resort, it's a little isolated, but if you think you'll spend a good amount of time at the resort, it's a nice place to be.
I stayed at Beach club in January and absolutely loved it. Animal kingdom lodge is next on my bucket list.

Ok, so because no (good) ROL news today, I have a question for my fellow support group members. Looks like the boys and I, minus mom and dad but add in a hubby...lol, will also be traveling to Disney in June 2017. For that trip, my co-worker friend is going to rent us her DVC points. They have 140 points they will rent. With just us 4, we'll do a studio. We won't be able to do BLT, GF, or the Poly, but everything else is doable. I'm mostly focusing on Boardwalk, Beach Club, or AKL (Jambo or Kidani) savanna view. I like the theming of AKL best and think I like the bathroom set up at Kidani more than Jambo. I like the atmosphere/location at BW or BC.

Looking fo any and all opinions!
I suggest asking in one of the DVC forums. You may get some answers here, but you'll probably get more and better opinions there. This thread is too chaotic.

Totally love the Epcot area. Love being able to walk to France for a morning pastry or take a boat to HS. Stormalong Bay is the bomb and the nightly movies on the beach can't be beat! We stayed at BC and woke up every morning to the silver ball and sat on the balcony watching Illuminations. Loved it!

Hello all, another long-time lurker crawls out of the woodwork....

Been following for a long time and I can't believe the disregard that Disney regularly shows for its "guests" these days. Thankfully, I don't have a trip planned until the end of October, but even I'm getting nervous about my looming ADR date. I can't imagine how crazy all of you April/May DISers are going!

So you blame Disney because you can't figure out how to successfully plan while still remaining flexible?

This is how Disney operates, it is nothing new. The same will happen for the Star Wars Land, the same happened for Fantasyland, 7DMT, Soarin, Test Track, Toy Story, Anna & Elsa Meet & Greet, etc etc etc. You can plan to a certain extent, but when you plan too rigid that you do not allow for flexibility, you are putting yourself at a disadvantage, not Disney.

For example, we are going over Memorial Day weekend and Frozen Ever After ever is SUPPOSED to open the day after we leave. Anyone going over Memorial Day that isn't planning for the possibility of Frozen ever After being opened on a limited basis, trial runs, etc is selling themselves short. Plan, but leave room for the unexpected. Unless you control the variables, you have to plan for variability.
There you go... I guess nobody can get upset at the people who who book multiple hard-to-get ADRs on the same day. After all, they're just "planning for variability."

Has anyone done breakfast at 1900 Park Fare? I was just browsing MDE and noticed an ADR for tomorrow morning, so decided to book it for an Easter breakfast. I don't even know which characters are there, it just seemed like a nice choice for Easter. Any reviews?

Not sure if anyone has seen this yet, but we got an e-mail yesterday from Disney Destinations, and Tiffins is now 'opening this summer'.

I don't know Keith, my first comment about ROL on the blog was rejected. I didn't think it was that bad but they deleted it. LOL
The moderator for comments is outsourced, just following rules to allow or not. I have only seen one before f the actual Blog writers come back on with feedback to the comments.

I don't think so. Neither would survive on their own. Especially if one ride went down for refurb like Soarin is now. You'd be surprised how much the land pavilion is hurting with that attraction down.

I would certainly pay extra ( not anything crazy--- let's say $15-$25) to get into WS, if they decided to do it ---
I can live there !! On my bucket list is to hide out, and sleep on a bench right near the WS Lagoon --- until morning.
:))

We were due !!

We really enjoyed the Boardwalk Villas - stayed in a non renovated studio in September and a renovated one in January. For 4 adults it was a little tight (or would be for a longer trip), but the point cost is good. I love being in the Epcot area to head into France for pastries in the morning, over to Beaches & Cream for ice cream, and generally just hanging around the boardwalk area.

I would say if you think you'll use the pool, Beach Club seems like the way to go. Plus, they are renovating the villas right now I think, so you would probably get a renovated studio by the time you go, and they look nice! I think they may have added the fold-out bed to those like they did in the Boardwalk rooms. We just used the regular and sofa bed though - with all of them folded out it would be really close quarters.

Beach Club is also a little bit closer to Epcot if you care about the walk.

I can't say anything about AKL though, we haven't gotten there yet :)

We talked about this recently! :D We're trying this out on our upcoming trip, and have heard good things. Alice, Mad Hatter, Mary Poppins, "and friends" (of course availability subject to change yada yada) and I've heard of Pooh characters being the usual "friends" :)

We had a great time. We had Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Mary Poppins and Alice in Wonderland with the Mad Hatter. Lots of fun, and the food was pretty good. We had already done the Wonderland Tea Party and met Pooh and friends at CP but we were there to see Mary Poppins. The rest were icing on the cake.

I have! Alice, the Mad hatter, Mary Poppins, Tigger and Pooh were there when I went. Mad hatter is a hoot! I enjoyed it!

I just realized I could also do online check in right now lol 60 days. Is there any benefit to doing this?
I am supposed to be able to do this too. I am holding off for now but I am sure I will. One benefit told to me was that your room number may get texted to you and you can have your luggage picked up by MDE and can go straight to the parks if you want
