Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Case in point: It was "news" this week that WDW just confirmed that they would be extending hours at 'Ohana beginning this month.

Someone on the Rumors and News board said they tried searching yesterday for an ADR for a late April trip after hearing this "news." Unfortunately for them, WDW quietly opened up ADRs for these extended hours over a month ago, and they're already gone even though they're just now confirming the extended hours.

Another case in point... if you look on MDE, it still says that the Star Wars dessert party is available through March 19th, but I learned here that it had been extended through the month of April. And there lies my silver lining in all my ROL stalking - I wouldn't have known that was available for my April trip!

In light of these case studies, I'm predicting:
ROL will be announced as available to book on the 15th but actually available 3:54 am of the 14th.

I guess I've learned that CM information no matter who it may come from above them is never 100% accurate. In a fluid situation such as this with the on boarding of a new restaurant, I can rationalize why said dates are not accurate.

It's good that you can feel that way - when is your next trip planned?

If you scan back through the 104 pages of this thread, you can see that there are many who would rather have info not hyped and pushed out, only to have it continually changed.

There are many, including me, who have vacations planned where we've spent a lot of money and a huge number of hours planning, and some who will not be able to return to WDW for a long time. To be able to experience something that, from what they are telling us, is this beautiful would be great, especially in light of all the cut backs, closings, price increases and service reducutions.

If we are required to plan 180 days out for ADRs and 30-60 days out for FPs, it only seems fair to be given information to aid our planning that is accurate, and not feel like a bait and switch scheme.

I have a whole lot more understanding of the folks here than for the poor planning of the "fluid situation."

I get that it is frustrating for sure.

BUT. Again, DISNEY has not officially put out anything to the public saying that FP+ and dining packages WILL be bootable beginning on Date X. Everything people are basing it on is from what CMs - who are notoriously not 100% informed - are saying, and even yesterday some were saying their memo said 3/15 while others said today. With nothing having been stated OFFICIALLY, it is very hard for me to get upset with them for "missing deadlines" as those deadlines NEVER EXISTED.

We all know that nothing is ever official until it's official. Like runDisney race dates for W&D posted MOHTHS AGO... Oh, wait... They just changed that a couple of days ago... ;)

But yes, in general, it's not official until it's official. I believe the CMs referenced from yesterday said MARCH 15 FOR PACKAGE ADRs; those who asked "what about PREVIEW EVENTS", I believe were largely told TODAY.

And it sounds from the CMs that it keeps changing... that rumors for various release dates WERE correct and then changed. Who knows?

This isn't the first time this happens around something new and won't be the last. But I think it's ok for people to be a tad cranky and find it ridiculous that we are told to plan SIX MONTHS OUT out and Disney apparently can't plan ONE MONTH OUT.

Uhh, IMHO you are splitting hairs here. To me if it comes from an on the job Disney cm that's Disney saying it. Suggests to me Disney needs to get their act together and give the cm's solid info that means something and make sure they are all up on it. I've trained call center staff and that's what you are supposed to be aiming for.

I think Disney has just backed themselves into a corner. It's usually great for them to know what everyone is doing 180 and 60 days out but it creates problems for them when rolling something new out. I'm an engineer and the program managers are always overselling what can be done. And they oversell to the customer. In Disney's case they have pressure from customers to get stuff out there early (admittedly a situation of their own making) and the real world difficulty of predicting when everyone involved will get their job done. They probably are trying to balance everything, it's just difficult. An unexpected bug in the system that shows up in testing and they have to scramble to fix it. Or the material for the magical shaman costumes doesn't show up on time and then they're scrambling to make the dates they publicized (or told CMs).

I'm in the boat of starting my trip in 7 weeks too. It's frustrating but I think it's probably real world problems causing this, not really Disney turning us into Guinea pigs and rats in mazes.

They do that in other ways (line switchbacks anyone?). :upsidedow

Good morning, it's 6:20 here on the west coast. I see I have missed nothing. My coughing woke me up so I thought I'd check. I'm taking cough medicine and going back to bed....ill Check later. Have a good day everyone.

Though we might joke about it, I don't think this is Disney playing games with people. I think it's a combination of 1) real-world things that just come up -- things that just don't go as planned; and 2) probably a systematic bias toward underestimating how long a project will take.

Things with Disney seem to be "delayed" in some way far more often than not. Maybe they are systematically being too aggressive with their completion estimates, ALWAYS aiming to try to rake in the $$ ASAP.

If they were more conservative with their estimates, perhaps they'd meet their deadlines more often, and be able to give customers dates further ahead that would actually have a very good chance of being accurate.

But again... WHO KNOWS?! ;)
