I had a taxi driver tell me that Disney and Universal are close to agreeing on opening a park dealing with everything Marvel Studios. And both Universal and Disney will run it. Universal is in but Disney is not.
Also told me Universal is close to buying the Nintendo license. So they can have control of the Nintendo characters. This sounds cool to me. And Universal could easily switch out Marvel Island and make a Mario World. And last but not least, nothing major, but expect to see another Universal hotel. Sounds like Universal is growing and making an attempt to compete with Disney. Thoughts?

Universal and Disney are not opening a park on marvel.

Universal does have the rights to Nintendo. They have announced news attractions coming to Japan.

Universal is already building a new hotel called Sapphire falls that opens this summer.

Just to clarify, Universal having a Nintendo license doesn't give them "control" those characters it lets them use those characters under a specific set of rules.

Also Marvel Island isn't going away in the foreseeable future. They're spending a bunch of money working on it right now.

I believe 2020 is the goal for the Nintendo land in Japan and there have been rumors of a Florida version (I've heard Toon Lagoon, Woody Woodpecker Kidzone or part of a new park from the land they picked up speculated but I don't know if there's any substance to it) but nothing announced publicly.

I can't imagine Disney and Universal every working together.

The Nintendo thing could happen but it would be super expensive. Nintendo rarely allows the use of their characters. They'd have to be in really poor financial shape to allow that.

Nintendo and Universal already have a deal.

There was a chance in the late 80s but Universal wanted profit participation whereas MGM was happy with a flat rate licensing fee.

They kinda of already are seeing how Universal is using Marvel. I'm pretty sure because of this they have dialogue and discussions about the property and characters.

Universal gained the theme park rights to the Marvel characters long before Marvel was ever a twinkle in Disney's eye. Universal and Marvel entered into a perpetual licensing deal in the 90s when Marvel was in severe financial distress. When Disney acquired Marvel, Disney and Universal were essentially forced to work together since the license extends for perpetuity. I'm sure it's not something either party particularly enjoys, but it is what it is.

I would think at some point Universal and Disney will come to some agreement regarding use of Marvel in WDW. At some point Disney can just throw X dollars at them and they will see the big picture and take that money to make a whole new park.

I personally hope that never happens. I would much rather see Disney spend money on actual attractions for IP's they already own, then to dump a ton of money to buy back the rights, and then a ton more money to build the attractions.

Yeah I can't disagree with you however, Disney does find creative ways to get their IPs....Oswald.
