OK, I remember a while back there was a discussion about a new park that Disney was going to build before they wound up builiding Animal Kingdom. If memory serves me right, it was supposed to be based on the villians in Disney. Does anyone else remember this? What was the name of that park going to be? I was talking with DH last night about it, and it's driving me crazy that I can't remember that name. I knew someone here on the DIS would know.

:disrocks:

Im sorry, cant remember the name of that potential park. I do remember when Iger took over, shortly after, he mentioned in a speech that they would not be building a new park but rather focus on what parks they have now and continue to add-on and enhance those.

I remember the name "Shadowlands" being tossed around on-line, but it was never entirely clear to me if this was to be the actual park name or was just a "codeword" while the project was being researched.

Shadowlands was the rumored name to the new land that was rumored for the Magic Kingdom, in the area where 20K was... The land is big enough to hold an entire land.... One name I heard about the 5th park was Steel Kingdom.... a park of thrill rides themed to the villains.... I did not hear any other names, but, I am sure there were many names that ran rampant on the net regarding a 5th park.....

Wasn't "Beastly Kingdom" a name thrown around a lot?

That is going to be an additional land at AK with mythical beasts, such as dragons or other creatures that have never existed. Note when wandering through (or outside) AK the cutouts on the backs of the benches.

Before AK was built one of the lands was supposed to be Beastlie Kingdomme. Because of budget cuts Disney delayed the building of Beastly Kingdomme and built Camp Mickey and Minnie and put the show Lion King in that area to keep the area ready for Beastlie Kingdom.
My understanding is that because Lion King and Camp Mickey and Minnie are so well liked that Disney scraped the whole idea of Beastlie Kingdomme.
They really had some great ideas on the drawing board and many people would like to see them become reality but I fear the chances of that happening are slim.
We can always hope.

Here is an article about some Disney attractions that were designed but never built. The Dragon Tower attraction was originally slated for Beastlie Kingdomme land planned for Disney's Animal Kingdom park in Florida. This article gives one a virtual walk-through of Beastlie Kingdomme and the ride Dragon Tower.

Great now I have to clean my screen...I just shot coke through my nose on the screen.

Seriously, I don't think I've read anything funnier in a long time.

Lesson to be learned:
Never try to drink soda while reading one of my posts.

Just to clarify that was not my personal opinion but rather it was my understanding of the that article I read.

Camp Minnie-Mickey devised as a temporary placeholder to help give opening-day crowds a place to go. Little did they know that a low-budget live show using leftover floats from the Magic Kingdom's Lion King Celebration parade (brought over from Disneyland) would become a smash hit and prevent the Adirondack-style camp land from being turned back to its original purpose. Let's take a look at what could have been.

I was just stating what I read in the article.

I still think Beastlie Kingdomme would be a great addition to AK and since EE has a mythical beast (the Yeti) it does give me a small amount (as in just a spark ) of hope.

In reality, Beastly Kingdom was killed well before the park even opened. Eisner was unhappy about the amount of money The Company was spending on the place and contiued to push to make it cheaper. Camp Minnie Mickey happened when another round of budget hacks pushed Asia back to open a year after the rest of the park did. Even Disney realized that opening a park with three lands (Africa, Dinoland, and Discovery Island) was pretty bad - so another land was litterally thrown together in a single afternoon. The parade floats and character meet'n greets cost them nothing and they sure didn't go full for the stage either.

Luckily for Disney, in a park with pitful little to do, the 'Lion King' show proved to be a rare hit.

Too funny people really are starting buy this stuff these days...lets see if I can think like Disney.

"Due to the popular paved over concret area meet and greet where the former Sub ride stood Disney will not be adding an E-Ticket back to Fantasy Land."

"Due to how popular the Bus system is Disney will not be extending the Monorail to the other parks."

"Due to how popular DTD has become Disney will be closing all parks hours earlier then in the past so that guest can take advantage of DTD."

"Due to how popular Chicken Fingers are all Counter Service places will begin selling them."

"Due to the popular Dinorama area AK will not stay open past 6 PM so the Anaimals can rest."

I've found a new job!!!!

When you say "lets see if I can think like Disney."

I hope you mean the Disney execs of the past 25 years or so.

Not Walt Disney. Walt was visionary and I cannot picture him thinking like that.

I think its pretty clear that I have little reguard for the Disney and most of their choices of the past 20 years...and my humor is not directed at Walt.

How on earth can you not like "Festival of the Lion King"?

It's no surprise that this section of DIS has elitist Disney snobbery in spades, but I never cease to be amazed at the extreme stances taken here.
Do you people look down your nose at everything?

We were on a tour of the AK this summer, and when I asked the guide about the Beastly Kingdomme, he said that Disney has all but thrown the idea out the window, and instead sprinkle an attraction or two about mythical beasts throughout the lands of AK.

Thanks all!! It was Beastly Kingdom that I was trying to remember. My discussion with DH stemmed from a phone call from DMIL last night, who is presently down in WDW. She said she was talking to some people down there who said that if you use Google Earth, you can see construction that is going on behind Grand Floridian. Supposedly, it's completly TOP SECRET, (like anything ever truly is) and there are all kinds of security guards posted on the road for deliveries. I can't run Google Earth on my computer for whatever reason, so I can't verify any of this. It all just got me thinking about that "beastly kingdom" and my mind just kinda wandered from there. Well, if nothing else, I can stop racking my brain for the name of that park!! :thumbsup2:

Yea, well don't feel bad, now I have to clean the raid off of my screen because of the bug running around by your signature!

Well, I am really tall, and have a rather large nose so I can't help myself.

To be fair, I think we're all capable of drawing the distinction between Festival of the Lion King and Camp Minnie Mickey and How one may be a good show that certainly didn't sustain the absolute offensive waste of space that is Camp Minnie Mickey.

I agree with YoHo;20978935
Festival of the Lion King is a very good show and the rest of the space where Camp Minnie- Mickey is could be better utilized.
If the Disney execs really wanted to resurrect Beastlie Kingdomme they could still save the Festival of the Lion King and relocate the character trails.
As EUROPACL was trying to point out (if I understood his post correctly) the fact that the Festival of the Lion King show and Camp Minnie-Mickey are currently in the space that was set aside for Beastlie Kingdomme makes a convenient excuse for going cheap and not adding a Beastlie Kingdomme land to AK.
