Rumor: Simpsons ride to replace Back To The Future

I sat through many hours of Monty Python and I never quite got it. :guilty: The Simpsons had an episode where they poked fun at British humor. It had bobbies chasing an author in fast motion on foot then the author would be chasing them and all the while playing that Monty Python chase music. :confused3 I know they like the Simpsons based on the number of Simpson items on Ebay from GB. Now that we have in common. :happytv:

Are you sure it wasn't Benny Hill chase music?

Im a big Monty Python fan and I understand almost of all of their humor (hmm, thats scary)

Local radio said it's true this morning.......

until there's an official press release, don't believe ANYTHING you hear on morning radio shows.

I'm ready for it to change, either into something else altogether or just a re-vamp of a BTTF thing. The simulator thing has got to go. These things make people so sick and pukey!

I agree with those that say BTTF has got to go. Rode it once, never rode it again, probably the only ride at the main park that I skip. The simulator thing to me at a Universal park is just lame. Universal should do so much more and leave a cheesy simulator ride to some third rate casino somewhere that cant afford a real ride. Hope the Simpsons ride is not a carbon copy. Never thought the simulator idea was really a good idea. I like real rides. Spidey is the only thing close to a simulator that I really like, but of course it only has moderate simulator aspects and is not really a simulator like BTTF was. Glad to see it replaced, just hope its not replaced with another simulator. Changing flying through the BTTF world to simulating flying through the Simpsons world is not my idea of a good change. Let's see another real ride put in like the Mummy!

I would counter this thread however by saying I don't think its a great idea to get rid of any ride, unless it is truely old and outdated, don't know if I would say that totally about BTTF yet. As long as they have the room I think they should just add and not subtract rides. I thought getting rid of King Kong was a very bad idea. But if a ride has to go BTTF would be my first choice for sure.

Here, here!!! I completely agree. King Kong was great! I miss the ride even more now that the re-make has come out. We were down in Orlando in February, and the place was packed with King Kong goodies...but no longer any ride :confused3

Bring back Kong!!! Now there's a ride that will appeal to many, many generations.

except back in 1991, simulators were the new thing that nearly no other park had, casinos and malls didnt have them back then. Simulators were supposed to be the future of theme park rides or so they thought

I remember when they shot onboard ride videos of famous coasters and showed them on IMAX screens. it was just like being there.

keep BTTF open and do something in production central, then close BTTF down.

Yes we should probably start a bring back Kong thread on here. That was one of the only dumb things I have seen the universal execs make recently. Have you heard what the story is on that? Are they maybe planning on bringing it back and re-vamping it? Thought it was really dumb since the new movie came out at about the same time they closed it. Oh well, I guess no ones perfect not even my favorite place on earth Universal.

And as for sims being the big thing back then, yes I realize that, but as you say I don't think that ever really panned out and I think its something that should be abandoned, at least at Universal, they can and do so much more for the best park in the world.

No, I don't know the story. Do you, by any chance? I figured it was just to make a new ride, i.e., the Mummy, which I have no gripes with. I think I might actually try ROTM next go-around (motion sickness sufferer here). I know so many just love it. I tend to love the rides no one else does, lol, Twister included. I just figured they did away with Kong because it was tame and based on a movie made 50+ years ago. But I think the re-make rawks!!!

Heck, USO could redo the Kong ride based on the re-make and throw some JP raptors and big bugs in there, too. Gorillas, raptors and giant mosquitos on the new USO t-shirt, "What a Day," with fireworks overhead. I'd buy one :thumbsup2

YES! THat would be a great idea, the actual Kong itself was well made and very keepable, they could use it and add the raptors etc., for kind of a Jurassic Park type ride with lots of jungle etc., hope the Uni execs read these ideas.

As much as I hate to admit I was wrong, I now believe that the Simpsons will be replacing BTTF.

20,000 Leagues under the Sea is a good example too

Edit: I'd also like to point out that if this is true, its yet another USF new ride without IOA getting anything new (besides the Seuss Trolley) for a long time now
EXACTLY. IoA needs to set up. They focus has shifted onto US way too long. Where are all the promised "new","exciting" and "thrilling" rides for IoA?

with the exception of the JP island, there's no land to build anything without shutting down an existing attraction.

The Seuss Trolley techinically isn't a new ride. It was part of the original plans for the park, but never opened due to safety and image concerns.

USF, while attracting more visitors per year than IOA, gets just about everything. One major bone of contention amongst IOA employees was that USF got the summertime fireworks the last couple of years, negatively imapcting our business (and thus, our paychecks).

As much as I loved Kong, I can't say replacing it with Mummy was a bad idea as The Mummy franchise was much hotter two years ago, and the ride overall was more exciting. Jury's out on the BTTF vs. Simpsons change (which is true, and not just a rumor).

I've never heard the real reason they replaced Kong, but I thought it was probably because it broke down so often. It seems like it was down more than it ran. The Mummy also seems to suffer from breakdownitis ;) , but not nearly as often as Kong did.

While we're making our ride wishlist, I'd like to see another ride similar to Spidey. Of course, they need to step it up a notch. There's a challenge for them. :teeth: What I really hate is when they seem to take a step backwards, instead of challenging themselves to create a ride better than the last one. Shrek & Jimmy Neutron were both disappointing, after they teased us with their capabilities on Spidey. Personally, I prefer dark rides. They're what makes UO & WDW stand out from other amusement parks. All parks have outdoor roller coasters, & carnival type rides. JMO :)

Back in March 1991 I was able to ride BTTF during previews. I have deep ties to this as My Mother in Law loved the ride and came off say Holy S_it several times. She passed in 92. But over the past years, BTTF just seemed to hurt more as my body aged. Last year we didn't even go on it.

When it opened, You had Body Wars and Star Tours at Disney. BTTF was just so much better than those simulators. At the time it did hold the title as being top ride in Orlando.

I can see the Simpsons as a quick makeover to BTTF building like Jimmy Neutron. The Lab theme can be quickly transformed into the Nuclear Reactor Where Homer works. And quick change to the delorean cars to a cartoon chevy impala. I would hope that the movie become more of hybrid Spiderman 3d senistive to motion. It would make for a nice upgrade to the ride. Turning down the simulators would also get me back on the ride. Look out for all of those Homer Plush Dolls being sold.

I welcome the update. I enjoyed Jimmy Nuetron just as much as Hanna Barbera.

Full-on agree with ya', Tarheelfan, on the need for more Spidey-like rides. Unfortunately, once you've ridden it, everything else pales in comparison.

I'm on the fence with Simpsons. Don't get me wrong; I loved the show pre-syndication, always thought it was cute and funny, but isn't USO/IOA supposed to be like cutting-edge new stuff? I don't know. Simpsons screams "nostalgia" to me. I get plenty of that over at WDW.

My in-laws, who we're very close with, don't want to try USO out because they feel their kids won't relate to most of the older type movies, i.e., Terminator, Jaws, MIB, Twister. I don't know if there are others out there who feel the same way. It just sounds like a Simpsons ride is sort of taking a step back instead of focusing on moving forward with newer movie/show themed rides to get the younger crowds in (although they did good with Fear Factor in this regard). Lord knows, the old farts like us are good and hooked :)

Oh, wow...something just dawned on me!!! DH was telling me that there's a new Simpsons movie that's going to come out, non-animated. Maybe with the release of that film, Universal is hoping the younger generation who might have "missed" the cartoon Simpsons will spark some new interest?

I agree with the more Spidey sophisticated 3-D type rides the better. They could do another one at the same section with another super hero or something as the theme, even though it would be real similar to Spidey, I think that ride is so brilliant no one would care as long as there was another one.

As for space at IOA to put more rides in, I think they definitely could do it. There appears to be space behind the attractions that they could open up. And Cedar POint in Ohio are geniuses at squeazing in new rides to a very very cramped space. I thought they ran out of room 10 years ago but they keep adding. I'm sure IOA could too.

Personally my fav is Jurassic Park, would love to see another themed boat ride of some type, just love boat rides. But I wouldn't complain if they did another Spidey type ride either. Just no sims, I think they are cheesy, but thats just me. Or maybe a 300ft plus super coaster, that's the one thing they don't have that they probably need at the Universal property in general.
