I look forward to seeing this movie on DVD. I recall seeing it on TV and I really enjoyed it!
Most countries have unspeakable things that have happened in the past - including slavery. SOTS may seem dated, but that shows how things were at the time - an honest representation of that era - it does not mean that is how people feel or behave today.
With it being a Disney movie, it may also be a good way of showing children the history of the USA and how things have progressed. Isn't that part of the point? Learning from our mistakes and stopping history repeating itself?
