Just had a friend (also a member) return from this past weekend. They were told not to anticipate Pool Hopping to SSR. We shall see as that one surprised me. She also said no Osborne Lights this year due to construction.

I had heard the story about Osborne Lights. Something is apparently underway on that end of MGM.

Dean, I suspect that your prediction about pool hopping will come true, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it, although I'm sure some will..

I think I read something about a new stunt show (boats ?) planned for that area ? Don't quote me on that though ! lol This would be a disappointment though if I were planning a trip this December, because I really enjoy the Lights.....

I am suprised about the pool-hopping though ? Hmmm....wonder why that is ? Do they feel it's going to be a particularily sought-after destination for pool-hopping ? I never figured this, so I'm with Robin----I won't lose sleep either. Really, I don't feel any of the WDW pools could ever rival SAB ? Maybe they felt just the "newness" of it would draw large amounts of people ?

I'm not going to lose sleep over it either, but I did think pool hopping would be a nice reason for us to get over to the resort and check it out.

Osborne lights thing is true because of the destruction of residential street. I hadn't heard the SSR pool thing, and probably wouldn't care anyway.

Lights out due to them adding a new car stunt show similar to the one in DLP back down where residential street used to be. Resdential street now totally gone. On the backlot tour last July we coudl see a littel bit of the constuction.

I'm bummed about the lighst being goen thsi year. My parenat are going down there with me and my girls for a couple nights.

From what i understand lights will be back next year, but on the city street.

The pool hopping ban doesn't surprise me. I was reading the latest Vacation Magic and they indicated that this will be a very nice pool. Slide coming down through the rocks. An interactive play area for the kids. Very kid friendly.

Blocking pool hopping to SSR would be a sales strategy, pure and simple (similar to SAB). Although I do think SAB had some legitimacy to it. If they build a really nice pool, then blocking pool hopping could help sell the resort after the initial rush of demand falls off as it very well might.

I'm sure that the sales personnel used SAB to help sell BCV. This would just give them another tool to help sell. I can hear the sales pitch now:

"You will have exclusive rights to use this great new pool, while still maintaining the rights to pool hop to almost every other pool at the Disney resorts".

Doesn't surprise me a bit.

As for the Osbourne Lights cancellation, that's been reported for quite a while as they build the new stunt car thing on the Backlot Tour street.

Don't get me wrong....they'll never build another SAB type pool. But it does look like they're really trying to make it a very nice pool for the children.

I think that's important because the theme itself seems to be pretty "adult"...."horses, history and health" is the theming as described in the VM. Not very kid oriented, except maybe the horses. So the pool and other amenities will be important to attract families...IMHO.

Maybe they are concerned that the proximity to DtD could cause DVC members to use SSR as a sort of home-base. They may also be concerned about DVC guests wanting to try-out the new resort, through pool hopping. Since there are now 4 DVC resorts packed with potential pool hoppers, maybe they want to simply protect against a rush to the new resort.

I don't think the pool is the issue. It didn't seem to be a big deal.

My guess is that this is more likely to be a reason - and maybe a reason to cease pool hopping to more resorts in years to come.

With more and more members able to stay on-site as new resorts are added, it follows that a pool-hopping saturation point may be reached in the not-too-distant future.

Darn, I hate to see pool hopping restricted at SSR, it would seem such a nice boat ride for those at OKW to have a swim in a pool with a slide. There's probably a concern about those staying in off site downtown disney hotels invading the resort as well, arm bands may be necessary.

our guide said that the slide would be the biggest on property, but I didn't really think that could be right - I looked it up in the two books when I got home, I don't remember it exactly now, but sab slide is bigger, but the ssr slide will be like 150', so it will be the biggest one besides sab.

edited to say not tall, long.

i'd be glad to have some exclusivity to our pool like sab,but how do they police it with dd right across the lake?

I just wish they would get rid of pool hopping altogether, if they are going to restrict yet another resort. Pools like BWV and the Poly will have even more pool hoppers with the opening of SSR, and will be even more like "human soup." Yuck.

The same way they police SAB with the Boardwalk just across the way and all of EPCOT and MGM just around the bend. It shouldn't be a problem.

If they are going to restrict pool-hopping to SAB and SSR, then I would rather see them do away with it. It is not really fair to owners at BWV, WLV, and OKW. I understood the reasons behind SAB, but SSR is completely a DVC resort.

Could BWV "owners" vote to restrict the BWV pool to BWV and BWI guests under the terms of the contract or does Disney Development hold that sole right?

Whatever....if I want to use the pool I'll stay there a few nights.

The only thing that bothers me about restricting pool hopping for DVC members is the fact that at most of the pools they turn their heads to the fact that guests not even staying at any Disney resort often "pool hop" to them....I know that this is against the rules, its pool crashing, but I think before taking pool hopping away from DVC members they should look to keep out the people who really don't belong there.

I can see where pool crashing could be a huge issue for SSR, with its proximity to DTD....as is the case with Luna Park, and the monorail resorts. SAB seems to be the only pool on property with a good system of preventing this...because its completely surrounded with walls and fencing and you generally need to get past a CM to get in. (Though when pool hopping was still "legal" there we went on a late morning in Jan and there was no CM patrolling the gate....but the pool was all but empty...just us and a few teenage boys).

So anyway, that's what bothers me....but I'm not going to lose sleep over it either. Like I said, if I want to swim there I'll stay there. In general, pool hopping is kind of a pain.

I had thought, and now I can't remember where, that there would be pool hopping allowed between SSR and OKW, but not the other DVCs.

I'm trying to remember where, maybe my guide when I bought my Dec. UY contract for BCV, so maybe is about a year old info

????

Maybe someone else can comment.

Goldi.
