Rumor: EPCOT New Countries Coming!

Almost positive that Australia is going to be one of them. Next to Morocco I believe. I was just there a week and a half ago and where the food and wine thing was next to the Moroccan area, there was a sign saying something about Australia. Basically indicating that a new exhibit was on the way. My boyfriend and I looked at it very closely.

I also think the other thing is going to be some sort of African pavilion because when we were there in June a CM said that it was going in next to the little African trading post there near the DVC stand at that end of the lake.

There wouldn't be a sign if they haven't formally announced it. Perhaps you saw the spot where Australia would be featured for the Food and Wine Festival?

That is an ancient rumor, probably stemming from the time when EPCOT Center opened, they DID plan a sizeable Africa pavilion at that location - even giving it a special spot on the Wonderful World of Disney special on the opening featuring Alex Haley - but it never happened. And as far as we know, there are no plans for any all-encompassing Africa pavilion at all now - word is that with the Africa section of Animal Kingdom, they've pulled all such plans.

Harambe to a degree covers that area of the world.
Only to a very small degree.

Harambe represents a rural village from which safaris depart into a wildlife preserve. The Imagineers made trips to such villages in Africa to make sure that Harambe would look and feel authentic.

However, Harambe really isn't about the people of Sub-Saharan Africa. There's a significant story to tell about the history, traditional culture, art, music, food, and popular culture of that region. That's not the purpose of Harambe.

Sub-Saharan Africa is completely unrepresented at Epcot, yet Africa is a major continent about which most Americans (myself included) know too little. What little we know about Africa is about African wildlife and current news about the suffering of many African people from war, genocide, AIDS, and poverty. While those are part of the story of Sub-Saharan Africa, there's more. And if we knew more about the people, we might care more about their problems. Also, many Americans of Sub-Saharan African ancestry.

As I've said before in this thread, I would welcome any new World Showcase pavilions. I certainly wouldn't dismiss Sub-Saharan Africa as a region that deserves representation at Epcot just because of Harambe at the Animal Kingdom.

I agree. Its only cover to a small degree

And Africa is a major continent, true. But there's more coverage of Africa in WDW than South America, which is why I would prefer an Argentina or Brazil. But as you say, anything would be welcomed.

Argentina or Brazil would be great.

Argentina or Brazil would not only make "fan sense" but also business sense. Either could have a very successful restaurant. I think guests would be calling 180 days in advance for a good Brazilian Churrascaria or a good Argentine steak house.

And if Disney's Animal Kingdom ever adds a South American rain forest outpost, it would still make sense to have Argentina or Brazil in World Showcase.

Argentina?

Man, I can't WAIT to see President & Dictator-for-life Hugo Chavez cutting the Red Ribbon for that one.

All the while cursing the capitalist pig dogs under his breath.

A dude that hangs out with Nelson Mandela can't be all bad.

My vote is for:
Greece (the food!)
Netherlands (could be cute and all that good cheese)
Switzerland (again, the cheese, chocolate, cows in pretty hats)
South Pacific islands
Aus/NZ

my personal favorites for new lands at epcot would be Isreal, spain, and argentina oh and greece too. now for additions to animal kingdom areas I would love to see a brazilian rainforest attraction, and an australian area with koala's and kangaroos and such. I also would like to have some sort of attraction ( no more movies though or water rides. ) in every world showcase pavilion. too many of them are just shops and food.

This is exactly what it is. :) It is there every year.

I vote for Thailand or Greece. Both would have amazing restaurants. When I think of Thailand, I not only think of the food, but of the art and culture, which is exactly what the pavilion could feature. Greece could have the Parthenon or some other cool ancient structure look-alike to center it all.

I would also like a RIDE in whatever new country gets added.

imagine the parthanon as a show building and inside an AA exhibit of greek mythology. and the fabulous food in a greek restaurant!!! just to name a few ideas.

And so the rumors, along with the thoughts and hopes and dreams of Disboard members go on, and on, and on.............;)

I thought they were part of UK?

Andrew

You would know better than I, but didn't Scotland just try to become seperated from the UK? I thought I had read that someplace recently - like in July or something... is that true? Is that happening?

Any / All of these suggestions sound good to me pretty much. Epcot is about as far as I get to travel unfortunately - these days. So I'll take all the mock "abroad" travel I can get there! ;)

I thought these boards existed so people could make screen filling signatures listing every single time they've been to a disney park and pictures of their cats wearing tinkerbell costumes?
:confused3
