You nailed it! Matter of fact, the demise of the project was reported in the Ukrainian Weekly back in '99.

The series of articles in the UW from 1996-99 offer a good scenario of why the never built pavilions were never built: Funding was withdrawn, funding never materialized, funding never existed.

Funding from outside was just an excuse for Eisner and now Iger to not put money into the parks. There is plenty of money within Disney to properly fund new additions, add to the parks and keep them rehabed. They just chose to spend the money on dumb TV shows, Movies and bad Tech ideas.

If construction WERE to begin after wine & food festival, when is the rumored completion date? It would be cool to see something by October of 2008 (our next trip) but I won't hold my breath. This could also mean more shotglasses for me to collect of the countries.....although they changed the styles from 2005 from when we went in April this year!

New Country??? How about Miami, it IS a 'foreign country' with real, albeit minimal, ties to Florida and the United States. The cuisine is heavily Cuban based with pinches of Jamaican, Creole and most Central American influences. Archecture could range from Art Deco to modern faux Spainish (with turnpike view) townhouses...

The Pavillian could be worked by volunteer Real Estate Agents who really have nothing else to do right now and could feature lessons on how to be a Miami Dolphins fan despite the fact that they haven't won anything since most people (still living) were born and as an alternative "how to maximize your road rage opportunities without getting arrested."

I really doubt that they could put up a pavilion in that short a time frame. Although, like you, I think it would be cool.
