Today I spoke with a CM from EPCOT who said that after Food & Wine is over, construction will begin on a new Pavilion at Showcase for two new additions where the African shop is located. Spain and Argentina! Spain was one of the original countries planned for Showcase when it opened... Argentina was the winner of the Golden Lizard Award last year for the "Best New F&W Kiosk for 2006".

I must add that I got this info at work, and that in the past, people I meet there have proven to be a very reliable source. That's how I found out the "Arm" was coming off the SE sphere, and that DVC was the new construction at the Contemp.

So let us see if this "inside" info is correct. I would doubt that they will build two new pavillions in the "Africa" space, just doesn't seem to be big enough. Maybe... But I would be happy with either or BOTH, as long as they serve food!

This would be great news! However, I'll believe it when I see it!!

Despite the obvious cultural differences, does anyone think that 2 more Spanish-speaking countries in Epcot Ctr might dilute the sense of variety?

Think of the possibilities: the Argentina pavillion could attempt to take over an outlying edge of the England pavillion. Spain and Morocco could go at it just like it was 1492.

Good question. I think Argentina would be a fantastic addition on it's own and so would Spain. The Spanish influence on both Mexico and Argentina is certainly undeniable although much more "pure" in Argentina, but it still is a country with a ton of other European influences that make is very distinct. I think there are some things you can do to "separate" the three countries but it definitely will be a challenge to keep that sense variety. I guess it would be akin to adding a Korea to the WS, as many may perceive that it would be close to China or Japan and dilute the variety.

There have been rumors for years regarding new countries being added to World Showcase. Countries rumored to be added have included Russia, Denmark, Switzerland, Venezuela, Israel , Brazil, Australia, Spain, and a collage of nations from Africa. There were also plans to add a recreation of Mount Fuji to Japan showcase which would have contained a thrill ride. There were concept drawings and models of many of these countries but none of them have yet made it to the construction phase.

having England, Canada, & America, all English speaking countries. And why did they even need America? It's here. Plus the Hispanics are a growing part of the park visitors, just as they are in this country.

I would think Brazil would be a good choice....all the tour groups could hang out there.:goodvibes

Why not Brazil, they speak portugese and it would be a natural fit for the dreaded tour groups.:rotfl2:

Sorry MarylandPirate didn't see your post before I sent Mine, great minds i guess;)

Adding another country is great news, let alone adding two! The area they're talking about is less than exciting. It would be nice if they have some sort ot ride/attraction, too. :thumbsup2

Anything new would be great. Though my vote would be for Russia or a combo of Slavic Lands. Tsars, pierogies and Vlad Dracul's Castle! Now that's a party.

I'd love to see the additional lagoon and Australia added behind the American Adventure. There is concept art on Jim Hill's site that shows how it might look (from a 1978 publication).

New countries mean new food choices - hurray!!!

I agree with some of the earlier posters...Africa is missing. I really think there should be some representation from there...I guess there is a little representation in AK, but think of all the possiblities for shopping, food and development - the buildings would be so different from what is already there.

Actually "Africa" isn't missing at all. Morocco is technically part of Africa.

Plus Africa is a continent, not a country. Egypt would also be considered Africa.

Now you could decide to do certain areas in Africa that are more like what people think of.

Sorry, that's what I meant by "Africa". What generally pops to people's minds when they think of Africa - much like was is at AK. Hatched roofs, etc.
