RUMOR: Duffy leaving Epcot after the holidays

Take this strictly as a rumor right now, but one that is sure to please all of those who hate Duffy...

While we were waiting for him on Wednesday (we are a family that is in the minority of Duffy-lovers), we told the CM working with him how we wish ShellieMay would meet as well. She told us that she "hears" that Duffy will actually be "taking a trip to Japan to see ShellieMay" quite soon and when we pressed her, she said it would be "sometime after the holidays."

So I immediately thought that maybe Oswald would be replacing him like he did in DCA, but she told me (in a whisper) that it's possibly going to be Daisy.

I know we should never trust CMs completely but she sounded pretty confident that he's going away. So if you wanna see Duffy your time might be running out!

I personally love him but I know that many Disney fans didn't like the force-feeding of some new character basically for the sole intention of selling merchandise. On each trip we visit him there is never more than a dozen people waiting in line. He is INSANELY popular over in Japan but I don't think he really caught on over here.

Not popular enough. In Japan he is so popular that he has his own show and a retinue of stuffed animal friends. I think Disney was hoping that he would catch on in the States but didn't.

Duffy is Mickey's teddy bear. Minnie made him and put him in Mickey's duffel bag so he would have a travel companion. They sold bears in several sizes and costumes to put on the regular size bears. In Japan he even has a girlfriend, Shellie May (same bear basically but with a bow on its head).

They do Duffy's bedtime stories on one of the Disney channels that shows in the onsite resorts. My kids saw Duffy's origin story in August (the one that MakiraMarlena recounted above).

That was my thought! My daughter has a Stitch plush that is the same size as Duffy and she buys outfits for him every trip!!

The Duffy Bear was first sold as "My First Disney Bear" and had no name other than that. My daughter was an infant when we bought it 14 years ago. It is still her favorite stuffed animal and he goes on all trips with her now at age 15.

She resents that he was renamed Duffy!

Me too! I was planning on getting a Duffy on my next trip. Although, if they replace him with Oswald I would be through the roof. I've always loved Oswald!

No! We love Duffy. Such a great character meet. We have the best pictures from there. So many nice memories of watching the show, meeting him, buying him, buying him clothes

I remember the first day we met him, my DD was so excited.

I really hope this isn't true. Epcot was almost on my no-need-to-visit list...Duffy will be the last straw!

Doesn't surprise me he left DCA, and the Duffy store in EPCOT keeps getting rid of merchandise and making the selection smaller. He never caught on here like he did in Japan they're hoping Oswald does. Never a huge fan of Duffy so not a big loss for me.
