Just read an article on line saying there is a rumor that Disney is in talks to buy Hasbro...apparently they own the licensing to Star Wars toys. And also, even more exciting My Little Pony. :teeth:

Quite a spending spree Disney is on.

I think Disney should go after any toy company that makes toys that don't fall apart the first day. The quality of Disney toys is truly awful. As much as my niece loves Disney I rarely buy her any Disney toys, they are sooooooooooooo cheaply made, it's very sad.

funny how this has surfaced just as Universal announced the Transformers ride at Universal Studios Orlando. Hasbro owns the rights to the Transformers.

Wow. I was just kidding. And she's 19 - if that makes you even more incredulous.

MLP are some of the toys she and her friends hold onto most fondly from their childhood.

Does Disney actually manufacture any of their own toys or are they all done by third parties via licensing deals? Buying a toy manufacturer I would think would be more about buying a manufacturing company than any IP that company happens to own.

Well, that is if Hasbo actually is a manufacturing company themselves. This is more like Apple buying Foxconn than Apple buying another software or hardware company if that is the case.

I don't know about all Disney toys, but the toys I see in Disney stores and in the parks have "Disney" as the brand on them, not Mattel, or whoever. Mattel does license Disney stuff, you see that in regular stores like Target, Toys R Us, ect....

But that doesn't mean Disney is actually manufacturing them. Lots of third parties manufacture good for companies without putting their names on the device.

Going back to Apple, you won't see Foxconn written on the device anywhere but Apple isn't running a manufacturing facility themselves, they are having a third party source the parts and assembling all of them. They just design, market, and support them after they are made.

...and Sears private labeled Atari 2600's back in the day (along with the games)

I don't see why Disney would buy Hasbro... they can already charge pretty much whatever they want for licensing, seems like buying a toy manufacturer would be more headaches than it's worth for Disney. Lucasfilm Ltd. had more than just a movie franchise, it has FX studios, and sound studios, video game writers, book publishers, all businesses that Disney is already in or already uses regularly.

I don't think they are going to buy a toy company.

Ponies are awesome. Tell your daughter to be proud of her ponies and, if she doesn't already, to watch My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.

Not that I am biased or anything as I sit here in my Doctor Hooves Tshirt.
