Rumor: Astro Orbitor/People Mover to close..

Now, don’t take this as word, but it has been told to Doctor Disney on good authority that the Astro Orbiter could be getting a big-time refurbishment sometime this year. Word is that the attraction will be shut down in order to put in a wheelchair accessible rocket, and this refurb could take three months at the very least.

Oh I do hope it's not during Sept. We didn't get on the People Mover last time and I promised my DH that we would do it first thing when we went this year!

And, thanks for the scoop! The article says it's a "big time" refurbishment -- so maybe Astro Orbitor will be re-imagined into Star Wars racer pods or maybe Phineas & Ferb space rockets! I LOVE the people mover!!! If it's closed for refurb on one of my trips, it will be sorely missed!

Love the people mover, especially late in day, when I'm tired of walking & waiting in lines. Most relaxing ride in all of WDW.

The People Mover is one of my favorite rides and when I saw that, my heart dropped... Phew, thank goodness it's just for a possible refurbishment. Hopefully, it'll be back open in December when I'm there. I love looking at the holiday decor from above!

Me too. My youngest one's favorite is a toss up between the people mover and big thunder mountain. I rode the people mover with him 10 times in a row last trip.

The last time that the People Mover was refurbed (that I can recall) was when they refurbed Space Mountain. I know we were sad when it was shut down for that.

I saw the title to this thread and I thought it meant the PeopleMover was closing forever and I nearly had a heart attack. That is one of the best rides in Disney World.

Me too!!! Love People Mover! I went to WDW at least five times without trying it. After I did, I couldn't believe what I had missed out on! Now we ride it every time, and sometimes I ride it with my younger DDs three or four times in a row. So relaxing!!!
