My sister just e-mailed me very excitedly saying that she just heard on Sorceror Radio (Live365) that there are plans to build a new resort on the EPCOT monorail line. I figured if anyone knows about this it's you guys! Has anyone heard this? Maybe they are just going to extend the monorail to go to the EPCOT resorts? Maybe my sister just misunderstood? What do you guys think??

I very seriously doubt they will be building anything near EPCOT that would be on the monorail line, for two reasons:

- If they built one before EPCOT on the existing line, it would dramatically slow down the commute between MK and EPCOT
- Building new monorail line to accommodate a resort off the existing lines would be prohibitively expensive.

I think maybe your sister misunderstood.

I could certainly see them building more resorts along the canal between EPCOT and MGM, as there seems to be plenty of room to do so, but I don't see them building one on the EPCOT monorail line.

I think I'll believe it when I see it. The monorail is ridiculusly expensive to add to/build.

I believe your sister was mistaken...No offense to you or her though.

Disney hasn't finished the resorts it's already built: i.e., Pop Century. There are a couple hundred rooms there, waiting for completion.

No, I don't think anything else is coming any time soon.

They may add on here and there -- I know some people are dreaming of a DVC wing for the Animal Kingdom Lodge, among other places -- but if that happens, it's years away.

Ah well. I figured it wasn't true but I thought I'd ask just in case someone else has heard something similar. Thanks for bursting my bubble, guys! :guilty:
JUST KIDDING!

I've heard/read rumors of a resort going in where the STOLport is (the WDW airstrip). I think the Epcot monorail line runs through this property. It's currently mostly used for parking, I think.

The rumors I've heard make this at least partially a DVC property. However, it seems like it would be unlikely that they would build it before 1) they finish SSR, 2) they do whatever they're going to do with the North Tower Wing of the Contemporary and 3) they finish PC.

It would be kind of cool to have a resort or two on the Epcot beam. I don't think the 2 minutes in station would really add that much more travel time from the TTC to Epcot.

Mur!

I'm pretty sure that the STOLport is just the staging ground for the DVC rehab on the Contemporary.

This certainly seems as though she has mixed up the STOL rumor with something else. Putting a resort on the EC-MK line is a novel idea, but one that doesn't make much sense. Everyone going between the parks will have to stop and wait for the resort traffic.

It seems now that the STOL is not just a staging area, but may be the location of a DVC resort that can be much larger than the CR wing idea, which is limiting at best.

On my last trip in February, I was heading to Epcot on the Monorail & there was an area that was plainly visible (through the trees) where there were quite a few white trailers, semi-trailers & construction equiptment set up. I had just assumed that this was the staging area for the CR DVC renovation. It did seem a bit farther than I expected, but I figured that if it were any closer to the resort, it may be a distraction to resort guests.

Has anyone else seen the area that I'm referring to? :sunny:
