A while back there was a thread that said that Disney did not
re-sign the contract with Nescafe' and they were switching
coffee providers--was this just a false rumor or is it something that
Disney will actually do or is doing?

It's still going to be institutional-grade coffee-flavor-concentrate mixed with hot water, no matter who supplies it. It's not like we're suddenly going to see barristas hired around the Resort to make us good coffee.

Oh, I know you are right. But, it was nice to hope for a few minutes! Lucky for me I bring coffee from home and make it in our room in the morning, so I have at least one good cup a day!

If they're going with "institutional-grade coffee-flavor-concentrate mixed with hot water," then there's no point in switching from Nestle. However, is there any other large manufacturer of that kind of coffee product? My guess is there is not.

Hopefully, they will go to a brewed coffee. I don't want or need a barrista; brewed beans alone would be a huge improvement.

If you're there on a long trip just don't drink and REAL coffee at some of the restaurants that offer it! After a few days you think that Nescafe junk actually doesn't taste too bad!:lmao::rotfl:

Now that would not be a bad thing!!:cool1:

Be careful, very careful. We just returned 2 weeks ago and Disney just switched from name sweeteners (splenda, equal, ...) to generic. They are now generic yellow, pink, blue, and white.

So if Disney keeps this pattern going, they may just switch to a generic, no name coffee which might be even worse!!!!!:eek: (is that possible?)

We bring our own coffee!

Mmm !

There's nothing like cozying up to the fireplace with a fresh brimming mug of
institutional-grade coffee-flavor-concentrate mixed with hot water. :lmao:

But seriously, these coffee rumours have been out there for a while, now.

I'm sure whatever Disney decides will be whatever is the most profitable. Hate to say it, but the new stuff might be a step DOWN from Nescrape'.

There might be, if someone offers them a better deal.

Douwe Egbert, a Sara Lee brand, for one. They supply Cedar Fair parks, Delta airlines, etc. It's actually marginally better than Nestle, but only marginally.

When I ordered my hot tea at California Grill it was accompanied by colored packets decorated with a fleur de lis and it was branded a NutraSweet Yellow, NutraSweet Blue, NutraSweet Pink in very fine print......Still a brand name, but also marked generically.

I seriously think I'd do a cartwheel if Disney started having great coffee!!! I mean, really...this is a pretty big deal these days. Coffee is big business, and my husband and I were just discussing the last time that we were there that people would pay whatever they asked for great coffee dotted around property/resorts/parks. I know it would most likely never be Starbucks, as they are at Universal...however I could recommend a couple great brands that would go over great. Namely: Milwaukee, WI's own Alterra. Great stuff. I'm sure they'd be very willing to wheel and deal with Disney on a great price.

Coffee is a big business, but the thing is major players in the coffee business make money selling single cups of over-priced coffee (no refills). Disney on the other hand gives refills at every resort quick serve/food court and all table service locations; for this reason they have to supply a product that is cost effective.....this means major coffee suppliers (like Starbucks) will never be able to supply the need at a cost that works for Disney. Not only are costs prohibitive, but can you imagine the size of staff they would need just to continuously brew coffee for the thousands of guests they serve daily. To produce coffee in the volumes used at WDW the only option is liquid coffee concentrate.....for those who want better coffee Disney provides locations for us who are willing to spend top dollar (like the large suppliers, these places do not offer refills).

I will be greatly surprised if WDW switches to brewed coffee for everyday use, but then again Disney has a way of surprising us all!!!

We bring our own coffee pot every year, so we KNOW we'll have good coffee. WDW coffee is some of the grossest stuff I've ever put in my mouth. I can't believe they can't just brew coffee!!!!

I took some of those new Starbucks instant packets for my DH, as he is always moaning about the coffee. He tells me they aren't too bad. Plus nice and easy to carry around.
Funny, growing up in UK, I think the only coffee my family ever had was instant, sorry "institutional-grade coffee-flavor-concentrate mixed with hot water" It was quite a shock to come over to live in US, and find people actually use beans or ground and coffee machines in their home!!
By the way I hate coffee, I was obviously deprived as a child!!

Another vote for the Starbucks instant. It's far superior to Nescafe and any other instant coffee I've ever tasted. Not as good as brewed coffee, but very convenient.

They need to sign on with Tim Hortons :)

18 months ago, my SO was part of a coffee survey at the resort (I don't drink the vile stuff myself, so i declined). she was asked to try 4 or 5 different coffees and rate them.

could be the results of that survey are finally coming around to reality.

I was thinking the exact same thing! Tim Hortons is inexpensive and highly addictive. :) they could start by opening up a small counter at the Canada pavilion at Epcot and people would love it so much they'd have to extend the contract to the resorts! :rotfl:

Since we'll be staying on WDW property for the first time in just a few days, I was unaware that the coffee was so awful there. A BIG thanks to all of you who alerted me to this through your posts! I love to start my morning with good coffee.

Since we're staying in a value (no coffee pot ), I am bringing my electric kettle and some Folgers coffee bags. I do think Starbucks is the best instant I've ever had, but the Folgers bags are quite acceptable and quite a bit cheaper.
