Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

Had it been mentioned before about the start of the 50th being pushed back to the actual anniversary date (Oct 1, 2021)? I know nothing was set before but figured they would start things to try and draw people in but guess if they aren't ready to have much new to celebrate it makes sense.

Yes, this was the one thing that stood out the most to me. I know it's not specifically a Disney spokeman saying it, but just to hear someone say 50th anniversary will start Oct 1 is intriguing.

I have a clear crossbody bag that I bought for concerts.. it’s a big enough bag for essentials but not so big that it’s clumsy. Comes in a few trim colours. i usually keep a small scarf tied to the handle that i line the bag with once i’ve cleared security

Amazon has a ton of choices that are more purse like then backpack...

IMHO in August you won't have any changes , you might still see some still wearing masks but other than that it will be normal by then

unless the people in the costumes are actually nursing homes residents or over 65, I don’t think they have too much to worry about , plus they are in costumes. Let’s not get too crazy

Wow.. you think it will be open in August AND relaxed safety measures? I mean, we are leaning towards keeping our reservations but I never dared to be that optimistic. I will wear a mask if they require it but I would probably voluntarily still wear one in attraction lines. My husband got a cold last year and we think it was from a long line. He's always so careful but it's never enough at a theme park. Pendemic or not.

Will disney be using hand-held thermometers like citywalk? I will not be happy if that thing touches my face lol.

The pools being closed might be a deal breaker for us since we are staying at BCV. Galaxy's Edge being closed might be as well. Everything else I do not mind. Mask being worn outside I would not be happy about but might be willing to try it.

If Disney is open, their pools and waterparks will be open, no reason at all for them not to be, same with Galaxy's Edge.

Could be big changes at Epcot. I would think things like this would be more of a deal breaker.

Thanks for sharing. I find this interesting and it has me thinking about moving my trip dates from 2021 to 2022. I'll have to see how the deals are.

I’m less Disney related deal breakers and more pandemic based ones.

The one that goes without saying is the border related issues as a non US citizen. Without that I don’t even have the option. Will also NOT travel if travel health insurance won’t cover COVID-19 related expenses in the US. Won’t travel with a quarantine period in effect when we return. And lastly and probably most importantly, no travel for me until the places I want to go to are further down their curve. I will do my best to not contribute to an outbreak here as well as keeping my family as safe as I reasonably can. A vaccine or reliable treatment would likely change that but I am not banking on them.

Once those are better, I think there’s a good chance the masks are gone from Disney anyways, because I have no desire to have my kids wear them all day in parks (without kids I could probably be swayed under the right circumstances).

I have an AP right now so my costs would be less and I go fairly often and could probably have a good trip with a lot of limitations but my dealbreakers are like yours- not Disney specific but travel related. I’d love to be there today even without TS dining, M&G and fireworks just to walk around the Boardwalk but I can’t talk myself into it and won’t be able to for a while.

IMHO Yes, by then a mask will be recommended but not required, some variation of the six-foot rule will probably be still in place, no reason not to. Yes, the thermometers will be no-touch, everything is about eliminating touchpoints, they arent' going to add one.

I see no reason for pools and at least 1 water park to be open. I don’t think they’ll do them both in the beginning. The only problem there might be is lack of staffing and a shortage of lifeguards. Safety wise, I don’t see an issue.

I think checks at resorts before boarding bus-boats-skyliner-monorails is a good idea, it will lessen the amount of people waiting to go through bag check directly at the parks, it will also lessen the amount of people waiting for their temp checks
At Citywalk the day it opened I was there at 4pm (opening time) and there was a line that took about 3 min to get through for the temp check, that was with citywalk being completely empty, there was not a lot of people, if the parks would´ve been opened and it was morning that line easily can be 10+ mins long, by scattering the temp checks around it would help with the queueing

I think at Universal they will probably do temp checks wherever they do security checks. So at all entrances to CityWalk (either by bus, parking lot, or the ones on the sides for walkers) and prior to loading on the boats at the resorts. I've always thought Disney should figure out how to incorporate this into their policy.
ETA I've always been confused why Disney is ok having no security checks on their transportation and at Disney Springs.

That's where I'm at. I see many that can't follow physical distancing now. Seeing a lot on here posting about ways to get around rules doesn't give me reason to keep my hopes up.

For myself I don't see anything that is too concerning. I don't care about the nighttime show and I only expected Rat to be open by May 2021, so that seems to be still on track. I completely already expected Epcot to be a torn up mess when we go!

We plan on 2023 to hit everything that is finished in Epcot!

Now if AK has any issues....

I was hoping to catch the early stages of the anniversary celebration. I also want to see the new fireworks. Paying a pretty penny to stay at Boardwalk and don't want Epcot closed or in shambles.

Yes! Since our next trip is at Gran Destino, I'm not as concerned with Epcot. I would be very bummed if we were staying at Yacht/Beach like normal.

Deal breakers for me.. many.

I’ve been going to WDW since I was 10.. and there was only one park then lol. So many great vacations with family and friends over allot of years.

We’ve made wonderful, magical memories with our kids and our extended family of grandparents, aunts, uncles & cousins.
Now it’s time for their kids first trip. I want it to be every bit as wonderous for my grandkids as my first trip.. and my 2 dd’s first trips.
For me, there’s also the cost.. our week long June trip that was cancelled (4adults & 2 kids) that was $12K US was $18K CDN after the very poor exchange rate and flight costs were factored in. For that kind of money... I want the full magic!

So I will wait & watch. I’ll be back, we will be back.. hopefully just before Christmas this year... providing the magic is somewhat more magical then I expect it will be at first.

I noticed Shanghai did those walk-by temperature checks. I assumed Orlando would do this because it keeps the flow moving and crowds would presumably be higher than DS. We shall see.

Yeah, it's amazing how many simply want to ignore or skirt rules designed for public safety. I hope those individuals just stay home if they cannot comply with a few basic requirements, like masks.

They expect those of us who want masks and distancing to stay home because we are "terrified of the virus."

I disagree. They aren't going to relax safety measures until a vaccine or validated treatment is in place, so expect it to change early next year at the soonest. Disney guests are, on average, an extremely vulnerable group of people. And most of them will have NOT been exposed to the virus prior.

Yep I hate clear bags. I have one for football games and it’s bulky and stupid. Our backpack is very small and lightweight.

Clear bags suck.
