Honest question sorry a bit off topic.
Are newborns and young toddlers losing out on building immune systems during this? Actually everyone?
Just seems like sheltered in a daily sanitized environment might make them more susceptible to anything the longer they/everyone wait.
Kind of the War of the Worlds type result.
This is a really significant point that a lot of people seem to be ignoring.
Not just newborns and toddlers, but kids, teens, and adults. And it is on topic. If we wear masks and gloves and sanitize ourselves to oblivion at theme parks and other public places, we may be causing more problems for ourselves in the long run. I know there were recommendations years ago to avoid hand sanitizer because it could ultimately weaken our immune systems.
Bacteria and viruses aren't going away. I see a lot of people talking about "adapting" to masks, but our bodies are made to adapt to viruses- but only if we let them adapt. Maybe we should be adapting to our environment rather than hiding from it?
It is a really tough call- I get that. I don't know the right answers. I go back and forth whether to have my kids sanitize, sanitize sanitize, or whether to expose them to small amounts of bacteria (and keep them away from strong, potentially dangerous chemicals in cleaners and sanitizers) that might help them in the long run.
My grandfather always said, "To keep kids healthy, you've got to let them eat a little dirt every now and then." I keep coming back to that. Maybe not literally eating dirt, but at least, being exposed to it.
It is something we need to think about, anyway.
