Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

I don't think the hotels are going to be close to full when they open. I just checked availability for June 1-3 and the only hotels that don't have rooms are Coronado Springs and the Poly Villas/Bungalows. They're going to allow all guests with a resort reservation in to at least one park on a given day.

CSR doesn't even count. It went un-bookable through the beginning of August approx last Thursday, though current reservations are being held.

It's not just Dumbo, though. Think of all of the coasters, that rely on brakes, etc. Those will require a lot of testing. Think of all of the animatronics in it's a small world or Pirates as well - those have all likely been fully turned off and drained. Every single one will need to be re-activated, tested thoroughly and deemed safe.

Brakes, dirty sensors etc. Every attraction will have at least one issue that would normally cause several hour down times I bet.

That crew doing that for 3 to 4 days has got to do that for every attractions. It's not something they can likely do more than one at the same time.

Which raises another question, once they get one running, it might be another 2 weeks before they get the rest done - what do they do with the first one in the mean time, does it need running X hours a day?

I'm sure the professionals involved in this know how to get the rides running again. From what I know, maintenance never got laid off so they should have been doing some level of maintenance through this whole closure.

Yeah, my point was more that there is widespread availability at resorts so it's unlikely that the hotels will be close to full whenever Disney reopens.

If they come out with rules/procedures that will noticeably impact the experience then yes, they will see cancellations. I'm still holding on and am close to die hard fan but mandatory masks and I'm peacing out.

Same here. I really don't think WDW will require them from guests, though. They need the money and know that a significant percentage of guests won't want to spend thousands and be ordered to wear masks for their whole week at WDW.

Yeah, these rides cost millions of dollars to develop, build and then maintain and are major draws for people to visit the parks.

I can't conceive that they've just been sitting idle. That would be a horrible "penny-wise, pound-foolish" decision to let them molder for weeks, like a low-key version of Six Flags New Orleans.

And we dont know how long that will take is what I’m saying. No offense to the seasonal parks, but they’re not Disney. Yes, they still have to operate to a certain standard to continue being operational. But as I pointed out, a lot of the seasonal parks are seasonal due to weather. Six Flags Great Adventure has 13 rollercoasters that has to deal with below freezing temperature for 3-4 months. That plays a big part in having to get those rides back up and running.

On the other hand Disney have never had a shutdown like this before. At those other parks most attractions need to run a certain amount of cycles to pass state inspection. I wouldn't be surprised if Disney has to do the same now.

I'm sure that Walt Disney World is on top of their operational requirements and knows how to get their rides ready for operation for when they reopen.

I'm sure they do but I also don't think they have been running them during this time.

why have a maintenance skeleton crew if they are not keeping up with attractions? I'm not saying running them every day but maintaining them at a minimum. Same with custodial, they have been cleaning every day

This was my first thought when they closed, I wished that this would give them a chance to really figure something out, but unfortunately I don't think they have done that .

I think a great many people feel the same. They feel that there are certain modifications they are willing to deal with and certain ones they are not. I agree with everyone who feels that when the opening date and modifications are announced that people will self-cancel.
I have one child on the cusp of not being a "little-ish" kid much longer. So for us, who do not go to WDW regularly, we have to decide if we want our last trip with the youngest still fairly young to be a modified trip or if we want to go in 2021 when they will be one year older, but with no modifications. Because if we go in 2020 and we have to miss things, then by the time we return the youngest won't be little at all any more.

I'm leaning heavily towards waiting, which will have us being one of the self-cancelling families when the time comes.

I'm in this boat. This was going to be our last big trip for awhile but M&G especially with Elsa is so important for mine. Plus we are big Character meal and buffet people. We are planning 2021 now but I'm worried how much may still be changed.

there is a big difference from maintaining a closed ride than getting one back up a whole park back up. nothing like getting one ride back up from a closure. I am basing what I say from a park that closes over the winter which is more like what Disney is coming back from than a reopening of one ride from refrub which Disney has never had to do before. and this is a lot different than custodial cleaning

I'm sure they're running the rides regularly as they don't know when they'll be able to open. They want the rides ready without having too much work and the easiest way is to run them. Each ride wont need to be run for several hours every day, I don't think they even need to be run every day as long as they're run regularly.

Because there is probably other more urgent stuff to deal with like water leaks maybe.

I read somewhere that each resorts manager was kept on and they spend much of their days going around every room running taps and checking for leaks and other urgent room issues.
