Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

NPR did a segment yesterday with a movie theater CEO here, and they are accounting for just such a thing. Since they already do reserved seating ticketing (as do many theaters these days), they've adapted their purchasing app/site to black out seats within X feet of already-purchased seats. Lots of other measures they've thought of too.

Movie theaters would be one of the easiest things to control distancing because of the reserved seating. The only problem is because its an enclosed space and longer duration of time with the same people, does it need to be more than 6 feet. But assuming they have it all mapped out, even clean up after each showing would be easy. They could even make seats available for one show blacked out for the next showing while having the previously blacked out seats available, that way, even though the seats and cup holders are sanitized after people leave, you still have 2-3 hours of seats being vacant

The 50% capacity is a pretty large capacity and they probably would not need any advance "reservation" or notice of who is admitted. They can just follow their phased closure procedure. But, it's unlikely they can put reasonable social distance measures without limiting the capacity lower than 50%, so they may decide to limit entry further to actually put in practice social distance measures.

I don't see why WDW would need to create a new reservation system, though. They already have a system for closures and they already take different types of reservations: onsite resort reservations, ride reservations (FP+), dining ADRs, tours and experiences. Note that Six Flags does not have any of these reservations, so they would need to come up with a "reservation" system.

WDW can just build up/adapt that plan similar to the closure "phases." I think we will see a combination of criteria, including a ticket/pass criteria *and* some evidence you have an in-park reservation (such as a Fast Pass, ADR, tour, Experience, or hotel reservation).

This is *me* totally speculating on what the admittance criteria could be:

Phase 1:
Guests must have a WDW one-day or multi-day ticket already purchased and linked to their MB or an Annual Pass, *and* a reservation, such as:
  • FastPass+ reservation at the park
  • Dining reservation at the park
  • Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, Harmony Barber Shop or The Pirates League reservations (allowed to enter MK)
  • A tour or experience booked at the park
  • A reservation at a WDW Resort, including The Four Seasons Resort, Swan, Dolphin or Shades of Green, Hotel Plaza Boulevard hotels arriving by bus (Best Western Lake Buena Vista Resort Hotel, The Buena Vista Palace, DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel, B Resort, Wyndham Lake Buena Vista Resort, Hilton), Golden Oak residents and guests.
Phase 2:
Guests must have a multi-day ticket already purchased and linked to their MB, or a Premier, Annual or Premium Annual Pass, *and* a reservation, such as:

Boom, there, resolved!

People social distance at movie theaters to begin with. If you’ve ever been to a half filled showing, people aren’t looking to sit anywhere near strangers. Hell, I’ve gone with friends where we keep a seat between us. I’ve never been to a showing that wasn’t busy where I’m looking to sit on top of someone I don’t know. With all of these concerns, and limited capacity, I don’t think movie theaters are a concern for people putting themselves in a position where they could potentially get sick.

My biggest concern with movie theaters is cleaning between showings. Typically they sweep grab trash and bring the next group in. They are not normally cleaned very well during the day.

If concerend about that just wipe down/clean your own seat or just not go.

I don't plan to go to the theater for a while for mainly that reason - I don't trust them to keep things clean based on prior experience.

This functionality will be loaded onto pretty much all phones by the middle of the month. We are closer to the Chinese system than most people realize.
google already tracks us. If you have an android they know where you are at all times. right?

I think that's the key. If max capacity is 100k then 50k is 50% capacity, but that's about what Magic Kingdom averaged in 2015 (at least according to one post I found). So instead of capacity I think they would need to halve permitted attendees, which gets you close to 25k each day. I've been in Magic Kingdom on what I would call a lot of "average" attendance days and it is packed, especially between say 11 am and 6 pm, and particularly in the hub area. No way you can social distance.

Why does such a simple concept get lost on people? :D
Personal responsibility, that.is.it.
You want to go places and lower your risk of infection? Take matters into your own hands
Companies will do their part, you do yours
If you are still afraid of infection don't go. So easy

Yes, but this will be info that is actively shared with the government. It is still opt in though. Not the place to discuss in any more detail. It is interesting though, because the technology will be loaded in everyone's phone this month that would allow Disney to require prrof of no exposure if they wanted too. Don't think they will though, but if trends get worse (again don't think they will) it would be more tempting.

Reminder the topic at hand is what WDW and theme parks may do. Not a place to discuss antibody testing, and whatever else.
Reminder this is not a thread to discuss death numbers.

This thread is about what Disney may or may not do to reopen.
I’m just going to throw this out there. I think I’m pretty lenient when it comes to moderating but it’s getting to the point where I just can’t do that anymore.

Just because an article/video says Florida doesn’t mean it’s relevant to Disney. I completely understand there are different sides to this. I completely understand this is a stressful time for everyone. I myself have seen a large income decrease. I myself had to cancel my first Disneyland trip. I get it, I truly do. That doesn’t mean we can discuss politics here. That doesn’t mean we can attack other posters because they disagree with you. That doesn’t mean we can discuss all these different studies and statistical numbers regarding the virus. Those things do nothing good here and are irrelevant to the thread in most cases.

Many if not all people use Disney and Disney related content/sites like these boards as an escape. Yes this is very much reality but let’s just take a breath and pause to think before posting.

Hello friends! Let's try to keep this thread open! We got 3 warnings yesterday. Please help our moderators by staying within the topic - discussing modifications that WDW may put in place when they reopen. Government and corporate surveillance is not a topic for the US parks. Thank you! :flower1:

I do still expect busineses to do everything they can to keep things clean. If going to a business means I need to treat everything here as if it is biohard material I'd rather not go. there are some areas like railings where there isn't a lot they can do but IMO they should make sure the popcorn container they give me is clean, the credit card reader is clean, clean chairs between showings, etc. If I have to do all that myself then IMO it kinda negates the purpose of going out in the first place. if a theater isn't cleaning seats in between showings, I'm not going to go to that theater. When I start going back to places it is likely going to be on a business my business bassis. Those I think are doing a good job of keeping things clean and safe I'll go to. Those that are not I won't.
