Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

While I agree that you should stay in if you are sick so as to not spread any disease, you can run a fever with this virus and feel otherwise fine. Disney is going to get its share of people that are spiking a fever but feel fine and they will be irate when they are turned away at the gate.
Additionally, many carriers of this virus will not show ANY symptoms, not even a fever. In fact, recent spikes in testing has shown that the large majority of people who have contracted the virus have been entirely unaware as they had no symptoms at all. This, to me, means that temperature scans are simply theater.

If all of us could figure out exactly the right way to do this, we’d be making the big bucks at WDW. I have no clue what they’ll do, but I’m positive they’ve been working on it since the day they closed. I can’t imagine it would take more than a couple of weeks to be operational, regardless of the specifics of what their plan is. They may not be doing much of the details we’ve been talking about. Increased cleaning, hand sanitizing stations, signage to remind people to distance...those are not hard to do or take much time. How long it takes to get the rides up- have no clue, but it can’t be more than a few days. There’s plenty of time for a June 1 opening. But just say something! The suspense is killing me!

Agree that they've been working on this since even before they closed. It's so complicated it makes my head hurt. From DME to the RAC and everything in between we come into contact with thousands of people on a trip.

I read that the Shanghai Dosney resort requires a green QR code for entry, among other things. Will that work here in America? I know a lot of people worry about being tracked with that sort of thing. If we can't get QR tracking, will the be able to reopen?

Research exactly what that QR code is, how people in China get the code and what happens when the code goes orange or red. You will have the answer to your question. (Spoiler alert: the answer is not while the US is a democracy.)

For us, that's all we're waiting on to find out - when they're going to open and what will the experience be. Ours is a long trip- a little extra to make up for the huge disappointment of being cancelled at the last minute. That makes for a very expensive trip and one we're not willing to make if the experience is seriously reduced. Whatever safetly measures they put in place are almost irrelevant to me. Masks? We'll wear them. Temp checks? Ok. Social distancing? I'm in. It's what the actual park experience will be that determines whether we go or not.

This is us too. We also have very flexible dates & go often. We just got back in March. So not much will be a deal breaker. Masks and/or mandatory tests will be about the only deal breakers for us. Limited experiences might mean that we shorten the trip a little. Some other rumored modifications might make us change resorts. Only thing that would make us cancel would be overwhelming evidence that the virus now often produces serious effects in young children. So, we are waiting for wdw to make their decisions & announcements to see what changes we will make if any.

In our highly litigious society, I can't see disney reopening. People sue over the smallest things looking to get a payday. If the parks reopen and people get sick or die, Disney will need to have had solid precautions in place. I am looking to the Shanghai park to set the standard, and possibly Paris, before they reopen stateside.

Ppl can sue for any reason doesn’t mean they would win. I can see CMs having a case (maybe) if they’re forced to work in unsafe conditions, but not guests. It’s a known risk. To me it’s like being outside during a thunderstorm & getting struck by lightning. You can’t sue b/c you got struck by lightning on someone’s property if you chose to stand outside during a known (albeit low) risk.

I don't know if you've ever seen it. But, I think back to a video the DIS crew did a while back. And Steve Porter was talking about Trattoria al Forno breakfast. And, the way that works, is there is a character breakfast price, and there is a non-character price.

But, he talked about how it was kind of uncomfortable, because all these little kids wanted to go up to the characters. And sometimes, the parents just let them and didn't try to control them. And sometimes the parents did intervene, but there were many crying and disappointed children.

I guess I am just imagining that on a much larger scale. And yes, obviously people would be like you and have that discussion with their kids/grandkids in order to prepare them. But, many won't. Many may not even be prepared for it. And, I love the US, but I have to imagine our folks won't be as polite as those in Hong Kong. So, I'm imagining people screaming at the servers/CMs about "I paid a lot of money..." And then I imagine character wranglers having to control a situation in which parents are not following the rules and they are being forced to intercept other people's kids.

Not to get totally off-topic, but it's not just that there is a "character price and a non-character price." There are two separate seating areas. If you are in the character meal, you are seated in the main dining room. If you are there for the regular, non-character breakfast, you are seated in a separate room. If there are kids trying to go up to the characters, then they are going to a completely separate room than the one their family were sat in. This is completely on their parents to make sure their kids are staying in the room they are in and not let them wander off into a completely different room. My cynic part says parents may be letting their kids go to the other room on purpose, so they can see the characters (and not pay for the character meal).

Now, I do agree that they have to figure out how to do character meals going forward. It seems reasonable, the characters can come and walk around (maintaining distance) and maybe do a little show. But, how do you make sure the little kids don't run up to the characters?

It still takes time to put measures in place. Putting tape in all queues for social distancing, putting up plexiglass as well as testing the attractions. Just cause Disney is taking reservations June 1st doesn't mean they are opening then.

How do we know that’s not already being done?

What about entry procedures? I’m assuming no more finger scanning. Any idea what they are planning facial recognition or maybe taking your photo like Disneyland?

I can see them taking a photo without mask, from 6 feet away (maybe even through a plexiglass screen). That way they can continue running all the facial recognition scans and security scans.

No it’s not for multiple reasons.
1. Disney is not the majority owner of the park
2. The government in China has way more say over what the park can and can’t do then the US. 3. China out of lockdown is more strict then our current state. I wouldn’t be surprised if all the “testing” at the China park the last few weeks has been more for optics that things are going back to normal

I assuming this was directed at me. I think Disney will have quite a few changes because of this. Trying to keep people at a distance will definitely be one. IMO masks won’t. And QR code’s definitely won’t. But people keep looking to Shanghai like it’s a precursor for everything Disney will do here. It won’t be and honestly even referencing Shanghai means very little. Comparing what smaller parks do in the US has more validity then Shanghai.

Read what it was a reply to and it makes sense. Has nothing to do with security and cameras at the parks. People were talking about how we should just institute QR code’s here. This shows how much China tracks people to be able to give the green code. So it’s showing people they don’t understand what they are signing up for If they want QR code’s to get into a Disney park in the US. But there are a lot of people on this board who takes what Shanghai does and thinks it is the playbook for everything that is going to happen in the parks here.

Hey, I just thought of a modified experience I'll be happy about! No more gathering up the wait staff to obnoxiously sing "Happy happy Birthday" at your table. Not sure if Disney is known for doing this, but a welcome change for me. We often skip telling them it's one of our kids birthdays. I know we might miss out on a free piece of cake, but well worth it not to have to endure.

If they don’t open until phase 3 there would be no reason . If I remember correctly Phase 3 calls for no social distancing or silly mask.
