Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

Clearly you work in the medical field. What would you do if they parks reopen June 1st with the task force measures in place that were discussed today? Would you go? I have only followed the CDC website for daily information regarding this, because I don't care for the political nonsense that has been imbedded into this tragedy. I trust the opinions of professionals on the subject and would love to hear what you would do?
You didn’t ask me, but my sister is an ER nurse & has said she would definitely go to wdw or anywhere open now. She & other ppl she knows at other hospitals here have seen a dramatic decline in cases. They have also changed their protocol on when to ventilate a patient & she & others are of the belief that maybe some of the treatment protocols are what actually lead to a lot of the early deaths.

I'm going to address the elephant in the room and mention the age limit for CMs outlined in the guidelines reported on today. Seems a line in the sand was drawn at age 65 - any CM of that age or higher should not return at this time. Doesn't this bespeak a bit how these theme parks believe their safety methods measure up against reality and that even they don't think they will be that effective?

I'm going to let my optimistic side out a little bit here. Over in the news thread someone brought up Casey's Corner and of course I'm now craving a chili cheese dog. But, to my point, if your not terribly offput by the virus I can't help but think this summer might actually be a great time to visit. If the crowds are low, which I'm assuming they will be, either by fear or design .... I mean could you imagine doing mobile order at Casey's Corner and actually finding a table to sit at and listen the piano? Sheer bliss I say!!
EDIT: For clarification, google Cartman at Casa Bonita! Totally!

I am still really hung up on how challenging it will be for the front line CMs to do their jobs with masks on, especially since they’ll be having to give people so many detailed instructions & extra guidance. So many opportunities for miscommunication. Will be interesting to see how that goes. Many guests don’t listen to clear instructions, now they’ll be getting directions from behind a mask. This is going to be so so hard on the CMs. And guests too! When it’s loud, it will be tough to hear/understand what CMs are saying.

You are my spirit animal. I’m sitting hear reading all reasons not to go thinking about how many times this summer I could get to Disney (from Buffalo). Airfare is cheap, All Stars are cheap, my AP has been extended. I’m all in and can’t wait for the Parks to open! And I’m hoping rope drop is a thing of the past. Just let us in to wander the Parks before rides open.

I wonder how social distancing will affect rides like ROTR where you sit close together in the ride vehicle unlike a roller coaster where you could be spaced out further. As far as the masks, mines always slide off my ears so I could see mask easily flying off when on a coaster creating another issue.
It just occurred to me- can you imagine full on screaming on a ride? If you catch the edge of your mask you’ll end up eating it until you claw it away from your face 🤢

I wonder what would happen if AND when a guest who has entered the parks coughs or sneezes. This will happen, there is no doubt. Is that guest automatically removed from the park? Will other guests chastise them and/or report them to cast members? Will that guest (and their party, presumably) be escorted to have a rapid Covid-19 test done? And if said person is positive, is the entire theme park evacuated? I mean, the measures just completely snowball. A guest with no fever coughing and sneezing will happen. It could be allergies, it could be swallowing food or drink wrong, etc. How will they handle it? How will other guests handle it?
Escorted out to be tested for sneezing? Omg lol

I dunno his name, but the cm who is usually at the piano is amazing. His photo is on the wdw website on the Casey page. But he is also older...I dunno if he’s 65+ or not. The fire chief on Main St is older, as is at least one of the ladies (forget what “character” she is)...Yeehaw Bob is older...if those 60/65+ and/or with health conditions stay home, it won’t just be the friendly store clerks, gate attendants, etc. It could include people in more prominent roles that many recognize. Heck, some of the Dapper Dans and marching band are older too...I don’t think these kind of things would go on right away anyways, but when entertainment starts to reappear some things may be missing or changed if the cm can’t/don’t want to come back for awhile.

Haha yeah it was meant to be dramatic. But seriously, if you're in Disney and someone near you sneezed or coughed what would you do?
The same thing I do now. Wince and walk another way or hold my breath (like that makes a difference lol. You just breathe in more when you need air 😂 stupid but it’s my instinct). I’m not about to go TALK to the potentially diseased individual 😱

Oh boy, you bring up a really good point, now I'm sad thinking about that. A lot of those performers really help make that Disney Magic.

I'm willing to give my opinion, but please remember, that's all it is. I'm an emergency medicine nurse practitioner of 20 years. Folks, in 20 years none of us in healthcare have seen anything like this, and we, like the CDC are learning new things and tactics each day. Disney is too I have no doubt.

Now, we always stay at Fort Wilderness, we take camper everywhere we go. Why? My cooking is better, but mainly because my wife is not fan of staying in hotels or other beds where unknown folks have stayed. (No offense to anyone)

We have our trip planned June 4th-11th. I am still holding onto this reservation despite all that is going on. I am willing to go, and take my wife and kids. Again, I worry more about the people who are not showing any signs and symptoms than those who are coughing or sneezing. I am willing to go to Disney even under the proposed phases, however, what I am NOT willing to do is to pay full price and then have no fireworks for the kids, no parades, several of the indoor attractions very limited or not open at all, no character meet and greets. It's not fair to expect us to pay full price and face these limits. That is the only reason I would cancel the trip. I already have another trip booked in October at Fort Wilderness with several other Disers so it is a backup plan already in place if needed.

Lets face it, theme parks are built around packing as many people as possible into them. Social distancing is not possible, even at 50% capacity, but it can certainly help. I don't mind wearing a mask. Since I work in healthcare I wear it everywhere but I do that to help protect all of you I come in contact with due to my exposures at work. Folks just need to be mindful and do their best to protect themselves, but also others.
If we would all do this I think it will work out well, but it WILL NOT work out fast. We're are just going to have to be patient with them. They are having to completely rewrite how they do things, just like we have had to do in healthcare.

Everyone be safe.

Did they say how long the phases were going to last?
He said as long as data and science require. He had many data points that they are monitoring, such as ICU bed occupancy, etc., but I didn’t catch them. He was very clear that he won’t selected predetermined dates or durations for the phases though.

Regardless of what % of normal capacity Disney operates in post-COVID, you can bet that they will compromise somewhere. No way they’re going to run the same expense level at a reduced revenue stream.

Seriously? 😳 I assume you’re joking, they are obviously not evacuating over a cough or sneeze.
BANNED. Don’t touch anyone’s face on the way out.

Nothing. Many people sneeze or cough due to allergies, asthma, etc. Anyone who loves someone with or has either of these chronic issues is familiar with the dirty looks people give them if they cough or sneeze, assuming they are sick.

Then again, I’ll also be avoiding places like WDW for a long time.
