Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

Where do you get that parks are closed until 6/1? I don’t think that’s a fact, just an assumption.

“Closed until further notice” I believe is the official word on the website.
I guess you have a point there. But if they started taking rebooking/ reservations for 6/1 without thinking that was the potential target reopening of the parks that would really be a lousy thing to do to their customers. Guess they could always say that though. “We said you could rebook for then, never said we’d be open”. Wow. That would really be bad PR

Its why it was bad for the to encourage it from the beginning. They are going to have a lot of upset people on their hands.

What exactly is the problem with face touching while wearing masks. I get the touching your face with gloves defeating the purpose of the gloves, but the mask is to prevent you from spreading it to others not the other way around right? So while good practice to not touch your face, it's not like doing so delegitimizes wearing a mask. I have lots of sensory issues and it's pretty much impossible for me not to constantly have to readjust my masks or take them off all together.
I'm certainly no expert but I think there are two mask wearing scenarios that are being confused or intermixed.
The first type relates to the N95 masks, and that type is to prevent the wearer from inhaling the virus. This is why you hear about saving these types of masks for those in the medical fields, nurses, doctors and the like. In this instance, how you wear the mask, whether you touch or frequently adjust it probably does have a big effect on their effectiveness.
The second type, which I believe is the type Disney MAY recommend or even require, is to prevent the wearer from exposing others in case they themselves have the virus. As we've heard, people can be asymptomatic and not even know it. To my knowledge, here the importance is simply to contain any "droplets" from a cough or a sneeze. Such as how my kids have been taught to sneeze into your elbow if no tissue is available.
So yes, I completely agree in that I don't think it matters a hoot how often you would adjust it remove it to eat or what not, I mean other than the increased potential exposure to yourself if your hands might have the virus. But as far as protecting others, it wouldn't matter at all unless you sneeze while adjusting it or while it's removed, at least I think?

Because that 6/1 date and onward is when they are taking reservations. So many are using that date to suggest it may be a target date to reopen.
So to be pedantic, the resorts are closed until (at least) 6/1. There is no publically known dates for the parks at all currently.

Well maybe! I think Disney took a shot in the dark when they made that call in mid-March.

They aren't allowing new bookings for May, but I don't think all of the already existing May reservations have been told that their trips are impacted yet. It seems to be a rolling weekly cancellation. Right now the parks show closed through May 16. I haven't seen reports of any resort stays starting 5/17 and beyond being notified yet and I still have ADRs and fastpasses showing for 5/17 onward (the 5/16 ones were canceled late last week when they extended the closure dates in the park calendar). I fully expect the closure date to move out another week come Thursday, as it has the past two weeks.

While I understand how you can effectively limit capacity at WDW by only allowing WDW resort guests and AP holders initially, can the same be done for DL? There are only 3 Disney owned hotels there but of course many AP holders too. I wonder what that scenario would look like to limit capacity?

They would have to start by blocking certain levels of APs.

So I was reading the first page with all the updates, and one I saw about Universal and mentioned rumored with Disney to is about nothing indoors.

Does that mean rides like the Mummy at Universal, Rise of the Resistance in HS, Flight of Passage wouldn't be operational?

Disney hasn’t really rumored closing indoor attractions. It’s also been sort of back and forth with Uni too since that would mean a lot of their attractions are closed. I think what we will see is spacing on attractions. Empty seats between parties and stuff like that.

thanks.

Also, I appreciate having the first page updates. I'm done reading threads on here and other forums I visit because It just makes my blood boil, and it's best I no longer participate in these discussions so I don't angry post and get banned.

It would also include River Journey, PIrates, Small World, Tiki Room, Smuggler's Run, Haunted Mansion, all the indoor rides at EPCOT - basically, if it's indoors it's not open.

I can't see them doing that, it seems too restrictive. There wouldn't be much for visitors to ride except the carousels and roller coasters. I imagine instead they'd space people out on the boats and maybe only do single riders in the Doom Buggies and other rides with two or three person seats.

I suppose by the letter of what they said yes, that’s correct. And It probably was a shot in the dark back in March. But that is what has me feeling pessimistic about an opening before Next year. I don’t think they can afford another shot in the dark that could result in ticked off customers. Guess we’ll see. I’ll be prepared for the worst while hoping for the best...

I wonder if they would still do Fantasmic. Unlike the other nighttime shows, they found limit capacity on that one.

My 2 cents that would be easy to do a soft roll out would be to open the MK only to resort guests staying within the Monorail system. that would give them an exact count of how many people are already there and give them options on possible virtual ques and see how that works and then progress to other resorts as they work out the kinks. Also folks staying there are more likely to have or use ADR's and they can plan on what restaurants need to be staffed......also if the Poly and GF walk way is finished all guests could walk to the resort and not have need for monorail or transportation

Will Universal's Epic Universe, and perhaps future lands/parks in the Disney realm, now decide to build in social distancing methodology into their attractions/parks? I am going to presume that COVID-19 will, hopefully, subside. But is this a learning period for future theme park build architects/logistics?

They could require all APs to reserve the what date they want ahead of time. They already have the technology from doing that with FlexAPs.

I’m interested to see how things work when Shanghai opens. They tested social distancing practices with parades and shows. Their parade route though is the longest of any Disney park.
Indeed. 6 weeks of testing so far though and still no date set for opening I believe?

I don't see anyone changing major plans like that at this time or in the future for two reasons:
1) no money for projects right now
2) before they invest a bunch of money into a plan modification like 6 feet around every person/group they'll want to know we're living with covid forever and there is no cure, no immunity, and we have to stay 6 feet away from every stranger for the rest of our lives... and let's be honest- if the outlook gets that bad who the heck is going to a theme park anyway?
