Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

I wonder if they would still do Fantasmic. Unlike the other nighttime shows, they found limit capacity on that one.

I certainly hope so. It is my favorite show of them all. I love that we can sit- and I love the music and the fire on the water.

They haven't ruled it out because they are still offering Fantasmic dinner packages. I have one booked for June, and just made one today for our potential backup trip in July.

On the other hand, they are also still offering Epcot Forever dinner packages and fastpasses in June and July, and every rumor I have seen says Epcot will be closed for a while.

I really wish that if they actually knew that Fantasmic was going to closed, or if Epcot were going to be closed, that they would just go ahead and take those off the system. It is hard enough to make fastpass and dinner plans when you know what is going to be open. All of this guessing about what is going to be open complicates things even more than they were before. I have to make backups for all the things I am guessing might be closed.

Indeed. 6 weeks of testing so far though and still no date set for opening I believe?
I don't believe they have been testing all procedures that long. It was only recently we saw potential queue set ups and reports of parade and firework testing. Their Disney town area being open is not something I would really consider testing anymore at this point but does give a frame work.

I'm certainly no expert but I think there are two mask wearing scenarios that are being confused or intermixed.
The first type relates to the N95 masks, and that type is to prevent the wearer from inhaling the virus. This is why you hear about saving these types of masks for those in the medical fields, nurses, doctors and the like. In this instance, how you wear the mask, whether you touch or frequently adjust it probably does have a big effect on their effectiveness.
The second type, which I believe is the type Disney MAY recommend or even require, is to prevent the wearer from exposing others in case they themselves have the virus. As we've heard, people can be asymptomatic and not even know it. To my knowledge, here the importance is simply to contain any "droplets" from a cough or a sneeze. Such as how my kids have been taught to sneeze into your elbow if no tissue is available.
So yes, I completely agree in that I don't think it matters a hoot how often you would adjust it remove it to eat or what not, I mean other than the increased potential exposure to yourself if your hands might have the virus. But as far as protecting others, it wouldn't matter at all unless you sneeze while adjusting it or while it's removed, at least I think?
Well if you have the virus, and then get droplets on your mask, touch it through out the day, and then touch other items (handrails, door handles, etc.) you can spread the germs that have accumulated on the mask. If you're not sick no big deal, but if you're sick it is a big deal. Of course we should all wash our hands frequently when in the parks and/or use hand sanitizer (which hopefully they will have in abundance when they do open), but we all have seen people who don't exactly follow that advice. So they touch the mask, don't wash their hands or use sanitizer, and then touch all the things and spread it around. There is no good answer with this, masks or no masks there are pluses and minuses that are really significant, so I don't admire anyone at Disney making any of these decisions.

Any news from Florida on when construction can start up again? Just wondering if they eased up on those restrictions, having a hard time keeping what state is doing what straight.
:)

I’m interested to see how things work when Shanghai opens. They tested social distancing practices with parades and shows. Their parade route though is the longest of any Disney park.
From The Global Times (run by Chinese Communist Party for those who don't know) they *could* be looking to resume operations when schools are re-opened. Link students just started going back to school yesterday in Shanghai it looks like (and only those in the final year of middle and high school as they have the big tests this year and therefore their education is the most important). If they want all the kids back in school to prevent them from going to the parks we could still be a little ways out.

Definitely agree with the washing hands!! This would also cover those who did not have a mask and sneezed into a tissue or hanky, still the hands will be contaminated so yep, lots of hand washing!! And, not trying to be gross, but say you do sneeze into your mask, then what? As much as I really wouldn't want to wear a mask from the onset, after sneezing in one, I'd definitely be done! (Yep, mask in the trash, washing hands!)

I don’t believe we’ve ever stopped construction as an essential business, but Disney on the other hand decided to shut down in park construction on their own terms

There’s no restrictions in Florida on construction. Construction is considered an essential business in FL. There is some construction taking place in Disney, it’s just not being done by Disney (for example, being done by Ready Creek and Swolphin). The reason why Disney is not doing construction is not because it’s restricted, it’s a financial issue.

Got it! thanks.

Buena Vista Construction is Disney's internal company which does small projects such as maintenance throughout the resort, painting, smaller concrete work, etc. Your major projects like Reflections, Ratatouille, etc. are done by outside vendors.
If they aren't doing small projects I highly doubt big ones are going on either.

What about the painting of the castle? The stoppage on this specific project confuses me. There seem to be no distancing issues and the uneven paint will need to be reworked.

I don't think its ridiculous at all. Having only MK open and most resorts closed limits capacity. If you don't think that's happening then I have a bridge to sell you.

There's another way to reduce capacity, and this one would actually make sense: cap the numbers of guests accepted on property at 25% of park capacity, on a reservation-only basis, and open all the parks. Increase park admission prices 300% -- but this would not be onerous because the parks would be safe, with very light crowds, and you could do at least 3x more rides each day (compared to the past several years, when the parks are mobbed most of the time).

If just the MK remained open, crowds would be concentrated in that park only -- forget about social distancing then. With all four parks open, and park capacity capped each day, crowds would be spaced out a great deal. It would also space people out between the hotels, which would probably be run on a skeleton crew, with a number of rooms unused.

All the above, combined with policies such as temperature checks and frequent cleaning of surfaces and rides, is not a perfect solution. But is there a perfect solution? It would allow Disney to reopen soon, rather than next Fall or next year.

Necessity vs Want

Necessity: social distancing signs/lines
Want: pretty castle

...But I'd think they'd need to call back a couple of the maintenance people to install social distancing sings/etc once they decide to start it all up again...

I suppose by the letter of what they said yes, that’s correct. And It probably was a shot in the dark back in March. But that is what has me feeling pessimistic about an opening before Next year. I don’t think they can afford another shot in the dark that could result in ticked off customers. Guess we’ll see. I’ll be prepared for the worst while hoping for the best...
Disney rarely takes a shot in the dark. It was late March when they put out the offer to cancelled guests. I think they had what they believed to be a very good chance of opening by then. They still may, we don’t know. But I don’t think they just threw out a date with no thought behind it.

While interesting and it happened, that is old information, the layoffs were effective 3/15. The WARN notification was made back on March 24th by Disney to the state, just over a week after closure. It made the news just today, but this actually happened over a month ago, with the layoffs effective the day of closure.

I’m interested to see how things work when Shanghai opens. They tested social distancing practices with parades and shows. Their parade route though is the longest of any Disney park.

I was actually wondering if parades could work via a combination of reduced total capacity in the park and then social distancing - would think it would be better/easier to do than for Happily Ever After given the projections and needing to be in front of the Castle ...

. .and if so, maybe do a nightime parade (just run FoF at night) with some fireworks and no projections

Any word on when that may happen?
